1. What song reminds you of a specific time in your life and what is it about this song that makes you remember?
This question is almost impossible to answer because practically every song I know and love is associated with some specific time period in my life. I could write a whole post on this one but I'll refrain and will share just two. The first is Little Darlin' by Poco. Takes me right back to the labor room with Daughter1. This was the song we played over and over and over and over as I inched (centimetered?) my way to motherhood. Why isn't this video on youtube? I hear this song and I think of hubs and I so young and hopeful and the exquisite joy that poured down on me that day.
The second is Life is a Highway by Tom Cochrane. I know Rascall Flatts did a remake of this song but fyi-they weren't around in 1992. At less than two years of age our precious and precocious Daughter2 developed an affinity for this song. Whenever I hear it playing I can see her sassy little blonde headed self strapped into her car seat- sunglasses on, head bopping, feet tapping, lungs going full blast as she sang along. Picture this little munchkin-
rockin' out to this song at age 2-
I'd like to be back in that car for just one day.
2. What's something you've given up on?
Washington D.C.
Not the city itself which I love, but rather those who 'Occupy D.C.'
3. What's something you'll never give up on?
God's promises and His faithfulness to keep them.
4. If you had to cook something from scratch in the next hour what would it be?
Well I do have a whole bag of toffee chips and a jar of peanut butter so it might be Heath Bits Peanut Butter cookies. You'll find the recipe here.
5. Have you started Christmas shopping? Decorating? Listening to Christmas music?
Oh you people putting up your trees already!! I think its ka-razy! Have people always done this and we just didn't know about it pre-internet? I think not.
I start my shopping with list making. The aunts, uncles, and grandparents all want some ideas for what to buy the girls so I dole their suggestions around which is kinda like me helping them with their shopping, right? I've picked up a few little stocking stuffers here and there but haven't purchased any of the larger gifts. I am not decorating for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. I know people want to get a jump on it but why? It just feels waaaay too early for me. I'm not listening to Christmas music yet either. I love the fall and the season of Thanksgiving and want to celebrate that for a little bit first.
6. What do you know about your parent's wedding?
-It was simple...a small ceremony in my mom's big church in Albuquerque, her home town.
-My grandfather (dad's dad) was a Colorado farmer and because they married in July he couldn't leave the farm to attend the wedding.
-My dad had his mom there and a brother stood up for him.
-My mom had her sister as her only attendant.
-They had a quiet reception at the home of my dad's cousin who had introduced them.
-My dad wore sloppy striped socks under his suit.
-He was handsome....she was beautiful.
-Between them they didn't have two nickels to rub together.
-They were married over 40 years before my dad passed away at the too young age of 66.
7. I can't believe I___________________
'haven't finished off the left over Halloween candy while hubs was out of town.' Just keepin' it real people...believe me, I thought about it.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
We've had the prettiest sunrises this week...
You should know you miss a whole lot of amazing if you sleep in every day.
I can't wait for all the candy to be gone at our house! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you have been doing this for a year now! That's a LOT of questions!
Those sunrise pictures are gorgeous. I really need to try and get myself moving earlier in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI am so with you on your Christmas music and decorating thoughts. Next thing you know, we'll be hearing the music in July! Ugh!
ReplyDeleteLovely picture of your parents. It's amazing how simple weddings were back in their time, eh?
I'm grabbing that recipe and running with it! Love heath bars. Your mom was a beautiful bride. And, ohhhhhhh, your week's sunrise photos....stunning.
ReplyDeleteI got to see a pretty sunrise too! :) Love the pic of your daughter in the sunglasses - too cute! The wedding sounds like it was really simple - the simplest weddings are usually the best =) Thanks for another great hodgepodge day!
ReplyDeleteLoved all your pictures and the story of your parents wedding. I loved the song by Rascal Flats too. Hope your week is a good one.
ReplyDeleteLOL... I forgot all the comments I wanted to make once I read your reply to question #7. Oh that had me on the floor laughing!
ReplyDeleteI really like the photos of your parents. They look so happy! Great questions this week but I really want to know where you come up with them EVERY week, that is just amazing!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with Christmas decorations, etc. Celebrate Thanksgiving first. Love the songs.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your mom and dad's wedding. I am going to have to dig around and find out more about my parents' wedding.
ReplyDeleteAND...those sunrise pics are G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S.
I'll get back over here ASAP! I'm running hours...no, days! behind! What was I thinking about when I decided we needed to paint that room before Thanksgiving?!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful pictures of the sunrises! your up early, like me! Going to check out that cookie recipe.
ReplyDeleteWow your Mom's dress is absolutely stunning! Those sleeves and the shape of it would not look out of place on a wedding dress today (think Kate Middleton!). I was just getting all emotional thinking about your parents' wedding and the difficulties they faced when you go an hit me with two stunning photographs of the sunrise. Wow Joyce!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you describe it...."a whole lot of awesome". That is fantastic :)
Beautiful sunsets and also the picture of your parent's wedding. I love the picture of your daughter in the gown and sunglasses. Too cute. In fact, I'm pretty sure my girls had gowns just like that.
ReplyDeleteYou had pictures of sunrises for your random thought ... and I had a picture of a sunset for mine!
ReplyDeleteahaha! Love your answer to #2. Giving up on Washington DC. Priceless. Gorgeous sunrise pictures. That's so true. You do miss out on some amazing when you sleep in every day. Thanks for hosting. Blessings, SusanD
ReplyDeleteLove the sunrise pictures. I'm an early riser too.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you about Washington! I also like to enjoy Thanksgiving before jumping into Christmas :) Have a great Wednesday...and thanks for another great set of questions!
ReplyDeleteI am definitely with you on #3! Do you know that I have a friend from high school who put his Christmas tree up just before Halloween? Mine won't go up until after Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteLove the sunrise pics ... however, I prefer sunset. :) Just NOT a morning person.
ReplyDeleteYour parents were such a good looking couple. And I have to agree w/ your answers about D.C. and the Lord's promises.
God's promises definitely something to not give up on! Yeah, I'm with you on forgetting those in D.C.- losers!!! We the people should kick all those out who are not for the people, which means a good portion of them will be on unemployment, but that's not gonna happen. =( Thanks for hosting!Next week, I probably won't have time to linkup. With that being said, have a lovely Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteWednesday's Meme Lineup!
I picked the first song that popped in my head but OMG there are a lot of song that have memories attached. I love the wedding picture of your parents.(I was too lazy to scan mine, you had a heads up!) I would love to sleep in but it doesn't happen anymore. Beautiful sunrise. Now go have some candy!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your insights. I wish I had a picture of my parents wedding. I do have their marriage certificate and am in the processing of making a shadow box with it and other things that were special to them. (I am having trouble posting today, Hope this isn't a duplicate.)
ReplyDeleteI love that song "Life is a Highway" Cute picture.. I love the picture of your parents.. Great questions this week.. Love the candy story..
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures, Joyce. Yes, I have always said that sunrises are lovely, but I do so enjoy sleeping in....
ReplyDeleteLove that song...old version and new! Beautiful photos of sunset...I'm proud of you I'm close to finishing off ours and next year I'm turning the lights off and not buying any...just too weak! Your parents wedding picture priceless...don't you just love old pictures! Have a great day!
ReplyDelete1. Quite the sassy 2 year old you had there! :)
ReplyDelete2. Amen.
3. Double Amen!!
4. I wish I could make cookies with peanut butter in them...Hubby doesn't like them. I'd sneak them in a few times when the kids were little. But now it would be just up to me to eat them all...Wait...
5. I've done a lot of thinking about Christmas presents. I've bought a few things for Hubby. I'm actually not going to decorate at all since we won't be here at all.
6. Pretty picture of your parents! The dress reminds me of my mother's dress, which I wore at my wedding!
7. I can't believe I didn't even buy any Halloween candy this year!
8. I really don't feel like I'm missing out by not seeing the sunrise. I am a much happier person by sleeping longer and not seeing the sunrise. I will just rely on your pictures. :)
What a great wedding picture of your parents. I have to agree with another comment above that my first thought was how much your mother's dress reminds me of the one worn by Princess Kate last April. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh the days of driving around with the tots all strapped in their car seats singing along together. Sweet!
I soo enjoy these posts of yours. The sunrise pics are GORGEOUS! Loved your parents wedding pic! I am going to look up those cookies now! Hope you are having a good day!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh! Gorgeous sunset! Two nights ago our California sky had very little clouds and they were mixed up in pink, purple & yellow. I also still have uneaten leftover candy, im still working on a bag of candy corn. ;p
ReplyDeleteoh and Yes its CRAZY to already have you're tree because it will have burnt out when it's December 1.
ReplyDeleteThat sunrise is beautiful!!!Congrats...on the one year of doing Hodgepodge.
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Rainbow
The car rides with the sassy singer. Oh, I can relate...just let me go back one more time and soak it all up. Funny that you and I both mentioned PB cookies in our answers. Your mom's gown is stunning...and yes, reminiscent of Princess Kate's!
ReplyDeleteWe still have Halloween candy left, too. But, trust me, there is nothing good left in that bag. Anything that was chocolate is now history ;)
ReplyDeleteI know I miss some pretty sunrises by getting up later. I guess I will just have to enjoy pictures that other people took at the crack of dawn. Ha!
A farm in Colorado and relatives in Albuquerque? We're probably related in some way.:)
ReplyDeletethanks for the insight on Kenny.. He so rocks..
