Do we have anything on our summer calendar? Ha!
Only some little something every weekend but two in the next couple of months. All good fun, but still this will be a summer where we hop from event to event.
I spent last weekend at a reunion with friends from my long ago days as a camp counselor (wrote about that here if you're curious). We have plans to attend hubs high school reunion, and also to catch up with extended family in July, and later that month I'll be trekking to North Carolina for a fun weekend reunion with college sorority sisters. We have a wedding to attend in August and in between all that some international house guests, and a daughter's graduation.
And you thought life with toddlers was busy??!!
2. June is National Iced Tea Month...are you an iced tea drinker? If so, how do you like yours (sweet, flavored, etc)?
I love iced tea, and drink it by the gallon during the summer months. My family is partial to the way I make my iced tea, which is lightly sweetened with a lot of lemon. I can drink it unsweetened, but if there's no lemon I'll pass on the iced tea.
3. When were you last nervous? Looking back, was the event actually 'nerve-worthy'?
I was a bit nervous last weekend as I
4. The bristle toothbrush was invented in China on June 26, 1498...not sure how that date was pinned down so precisely but, on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being sick to your stomach and 1 being not at all, how nervous do you feel when you're headed to the dentist? Do you see your dentist twice a year?
I don't know anyone who enjoys going to the dentist, myself included. In spite of that I see my dentist without fail, three times a year, because if I get my teeth cleaned three times a year I don't have issues-twice is not enough. Teeth are on my list of things to ask God about when I get to heaven.
On a scale of 1-10 I'm a 7.
5. What's making news in your town this week?
I live in tinytown so normally not a lot of news is made here, but we did have a little excitement last weekend.
A man pulled his vehicle into a driveway to speak to a family member and thought he put the brake on. Alas, he did not. He actually put the jeep in reverse and then got out to speak to his friend at which point the vehicle rolled right on down the driveway about 100 feet, across the road, through a neighbor's closed iron gate, and over a rock wall. It then flew another 250 feet down a side yard, before launching itself off the sea wall and into the lake, where it promptly sank.
Thankfully nobody was hurt, but I imagine the poor man will be hearing about that little mishap for a long long time.
6. Curtains, drapes, blinds...your window treatment of choice? Are there any bare windows in your house? Is that by choice or because you just haven't gotten around to covering them?
My window treatment of choice would be plantation shutters. I have them downstairs and would love to have them in every room. Upstairs I have blinds in the bedrooms and sheers alongside. I do have some bare windows in my dining room and may or may not add shutters there. It's not a necessity because it's not a room anyone can really see in...I like natural light in a house, so shutters are still up for debate.
7. Summertime is officially here (in the Northern hemisphere anyway)....what one song is a must-have on your summer playlist?
These 'pick one song' questions are always so hard for me...do I go with something new or an old favorite?
Okay-going with an oldie, but one that's definitely on my summer play list-Summer in The City by The Lovin' Spoonful. I like to sing this one in the car.
Loudly.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
While I was away last weekend, hubs purchased a great big umbrella for our patio. We sat outside Sunday evening and played backgammon and listened to music. I still need to finish my flower pots, but we're getting there.
Now we just need to pencil some 'porch sittin' time into our very busy summer calendar.
Your patio looks so inviting!
ReplyDeleteI may have to consider plantation shutters in my next house. I so like them.
I love that patio! Some sunshine and a pool added to that would just brighten my day! Anyhow my mom had that a tape of "Lovin Spoonful" I am not sure she has it anymore though.
ReplyDeleteLove the song you chose!!! I too would sing along. And as for your new umbrella, I'm jealous. We had one, but the winds here along the coast it'ss really not a good idea to have one. We also had a lattice roofing and that too eventually needed torn out...now it's just open space above the patio, and I'm lovin' it!!
ReplyDeleteThe patio looks like it will be a wonderful place to come back to after all of your busy weekends.
ReplyDeleteDiane posted the "news" with a picture of the vehicle in the water! I can always count on her to keep up with what's going on in Sparta! Wow! You DO have a busy summer ahead...but it all sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYour patio looks so nice & inviting!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness that car didn't hit anyone or the house!
What a lovely porch. I believe I'd want to sit out there a lot. I think plantation shutters are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great song choice, and one that must be sung loudly with all the windows down :)
ReplyDeleteYour patio is outstanding....I love it! So I drink water with fresh squeezed lemon all the time so if I add a splash of iced tea I would have your drink. I would definitely be a nervous wreck if I had to speak in front church. Oh my, that is really something about the jeep. I remember that song very well....great choice!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful patio you have!!! It looks like the perfect place to spend a summer :) I loved the questions this week!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great patio, it's so big! I like how the fire pit is incorporated into the patio. Our fire pit is at the back of our yard. Glad you're back!
ReplyDeleteYour patio is lovely and I would also wish for more "sittin' time" throughout the summer. It's just too darn hot (isn't that another summer song?) where we live, and so springtime and fall are the times to enjoy the patio. It's interesting to me that three or four of our answers are so very similar - speaking, dentist, shutters, and song choice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the great questions. It was fun.
Hi Joyce! Unless Mr. Linky is being a little poky this morning, I don't know if my link worked. I tried to link again, and it told me I already DID, so I'm just letting you know, and maybe you know how to look into that???.. Well, what a story, that man with the wild vehicle on the loose!! Talk about a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day!!! (reminds me of the story I used to read to my kids. I wonder if he felt like moving to Australia!).. Thanks for hosting another fun week! ~tina
ReplyDeleteLove your patio, so beautiful, perfect spot to enjoy the summer. Just enjoyed that song, haven't heard it in a long time and yes, loud is good, especially in the summer, right?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your busy summer :)
Lucy from Lucy's Reality
I love my plantation shutters too. And I too would have been nervous about the devotions at camp, though I'm sure you were cool and calm as you shared. And I always find that in groups like that, the positive affirmation flows freely no matter what. Glad your reunion went well, and also that you were able to put down the camera and just be. Good to do sometimes. Thanks, as always, for the HP!
ReplyDeleteLet me begin by saying, "Welcome back!"
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you DO have a busy summer, but in a good way. I do hope you'll make some "porch sittin'" time so you can enjoy your lovely patio :)
I love your choice of summer songs. It's an old favorite of mine, as well.
What a beautiful patio! I think some time spent there is definitely worth penciling into your calendar. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI wanted plantation shutters, and even though DH said "go for it", I just couldn't pull the trigger on that much $$.
I LOVE plantation shutters. I wish I had them in every room. But they cost too much for our nonexistent budget. My busy-ness revolves around organizing and cleaning out. It is NOT fun.
ReplyDeleteYour back porch looks so beautiful... comfy!
ReplyDeleteI want to talk to God about teeth too - & why mine keep breaking!!!
I never find it easy to speak in front of people - EVER! But I talk to people who do it every week & they always get nervous too - just normal I guess :)
Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteThe majority of grooming and temple maintenance is amusing and will absolutely be a gate question! Why??
Being a hairdresser, I have wondered why we spend so much time and effort on our fur.
Purty patio!
I love your backyard--going out there must be like a mini vacation.
ReplyDeleteI love sitting outside, but the danged mosquitoes drive me back inside every time. How do you all avoid that?
ReplyDeleteThe story of the man in your town drowning his truck makes me think about a few weeks ago when my car nearly went into a pond across from my house. I think I blogged about it. The only thing that stopped it was a tiny tree that did get half of its roots uplifted. Oops.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I love the song Summer In The City! And I love ice tea and I like it with lemon too! And you do have a busy summer there girl! Have fun. Sandie
ReplyDeleteI so identify with your answer to No. 3. I sometimes am called upon to give a devotional thought at the mid-week Bible study or to teach an adult Bible Class and always get a case of the nerves. These instances are not nerve-worthy.
ReplyDeleteI also like your random thought. SWMBO put up a tent cover-thingy on our rear deck. We have taken to sitting out there and drinking an iced coffee together with the fur-babies when we get home from her work. Sweet memories in the making!
A backwards trip into the lake would be news in our small city too! (But mainly because our lake shore is a Great Lake!)
ReplyDeleteI like natural daylight too!
Oh, my word, that scene sounds like something out of Tinseltown, not tinytown! Wow, so glad no one was hurt. Some insurance adjusters, landscapers, and car salesman might be the only ones happy for his business. I would love some porch sittin' time on the patio with you. Maybe some day.
ReplyDeleteI love the stonework on your patio. We have a big wood deck, but would love stone if we had the $$$.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for hosting the Hodgepodge.
Laughing so much about the man's car! Sounds like something out of an Aussie soap (only lacking people inside and it being done on purpose!)
ReplyDeleteIt may be a real struggle to get "porch sitting" on the calendar, but I'm guessing by the picture that it will be well worth the effort! : ) Glad you're back!
ReplyDeleteYes, you do have a busy, busy summer! Lots of memory making.
ReplyDeleteOh, my the out of control car. So, so glad that the car was all that was "injured." Surely could have been so much worse.
And, we agree on the Plantation Shutters.
Glad to have you back!
I'm hoping my just sitting time is not also associated with the entertaining time. Ha.
ReplyDeleteLove the new umbrelly!
You have a very nice porch sitting area. I have dreams about our backyard looking great some day!
ReplyDeleteI am totally jealous of your patio! Awesomeness!
ReplyDeleteI joined in this week, thank you, it was great fun and a challenge. :)
