A Perfectly Perfect Hodgepodge

Welcome to the 300th running of the Wednesday Hodgepodge! Can you believe we've reached the 300 mark? Can you believe it's March???

In case you missed it yesterday, I'm declaring next week Spring Break in the Hodgepodge, so no Wednesday Hodgepodge on March 15th. Technically that's not spring, but it's close enough, and since Daughter1 will be visiting from the west coast the time is right.  The Hodgepodge will be back in action the following week, March 22nd.

If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post. Be sure you leave a comment for the blogger linking before you because we didn't hit Edition 300 without the friendly encouragement of our neighbors here on From This Side of the Pond.
1. What is one area of your life where you're a perfectionist? Is that a good thing?

I kind of 'obsess' and want all the details to be perfect when I'm hosting an event. I think it's good to aim high, have a plan B and sometimes a C, and in the end to enjoy what I've planned, perfect or not.

2. What's something you find perfectly ridiculous?

Denying we have a new President, the endless outrage and protesting over every single solitary thing, and this season of The Bachelor to name just a few.

3. What's a skill you've developed by way of that old fashioned saying, 'practice makes perfect?

Quite a few things I guess, but cooking would be one where this phrase certainly applies. I find if I don't cook regularly my skills in the kitchen get rusty. The more I cook the better I manage timing and technique.

4. What's your idea of a perfect breakfast?

This is a tough one (the food questions always are) because my answer depends on my mood. A Saturday morning omelette cooked (and cleaned up) by the hubs is usually pretty close to perfect.

5. What's a trip, holiday, vacation, or day outing you've taken that you'd rate a perfect 10? Tell us why.

This question is even harder for me to answer than the food question, because we've experienced a lot of 10s in our travels. One that popped into my head immediately was a ski vacation we took in 2005 to the  fairy tale village of Seefeld Austria.

Stunning scenery, wonderful food, lots of time spent out of doors, and my favorite-family togetherness.

It was as close to perfect as a vacation can be.

6. What quote or saying perfectly sums up your life right now? If you can't do perfect, how about one that comes close?

'Collect moments, not things'

7. How would you spend $300 today?

I'd likely spend it on something for the house or quite possibly my grandbaby coming this summer.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

My mom arrived today to spend a few days here at the lake with me, and also to attend a baby shower honoring her very first great grandchild. I've had so much fun planning the shower and look forward to sharing some of the fun details soon.

  1. Oh, that quote!!! Have I mentioned how happy I am for y'all about your grandbaby? And how jealous??? (I don't think I'm ever going to be a grandma!)
    Those pictures are just gorgeous!!!

  2. We shared the same answer for #1. My plan B usually means the lovelies step in and take it further. Thank goodness for creative, talented daughters. :) My first thought about the $300 was spending it on Baby M but I'm trying to curtail that. It is SO HARD because there are so many cute things out there. Enjoy having your girl home!

  3. That really does look like a fairy tale village! I can't wait to hear/see how the baby shower turns out; I'm sure you've put a lot of effort into making sure it's "perfect". Enjoy the visit with your mom!

  5. Joyce, congrats on 300 Hodgepodges, that's quite an accomplishment :) Also, your new blog look is lovely.
I agree with your answer to #2. People need to get over the election, and give the man a chance.
That's an awesome quote, and one I need to take heed to.
I'm not able to see the "linky" today, so if you wouldn't mind, and you have time, I'd be grateful if you linked me up. Thanks so much for everything you do. Enjoy your time with family in the coming days :)

  8. I am SO into your quote!! After sorting, sifting, selling, and wondering why I saved "this"....clean it out, get rid of it and savour the memories!! It's funny, but one of the young men who moved us from our old home to the new home was talking with me. I told him we were moving 28 years' of stuff. He said no, we are moving 28 years of memories. I appreciated that one so young could be so wise!! Great HP, Joyce. Have fun with Daughter1, Gr-Grma, and your special event!!

  9. Your ski vacation was my dream. We did make it to Austria, but it was in Spring time. Still beautiful and still got to snow, but your vacation looks fabulous and I rate it a 10 as well. I'm so with you on the endless protests and denials.
I'm so excited for you about the grandbaby! The best times are when babies come. (My little paraphrase of a Melanie quote from Gone with the Wind!)

  10. You will find and may have already, that a grandchild will always be upper most on your mind. They bring a new dimension of love you never knew existed. I'm sure the shower will be everything you desired this weekend, and I'm so glad your mother will be there for it.

  11. How exciting for both you and your mama! I imagine becoming a great-grandma is as exciting as, if not more so, becoming a grandma. I look forward to reading all about the baby shower and most definitely the birth announcement. :)

That trip to Austria sounds amazing and the scenery along with the happy faces is just beautiful.

    Have a blessed day. :)

  13. I do love that quote. Wonderful! And your new header is absolutely gorgeous. The button is lovely too, but that header ... did you do that watercolor yourself? It is (dare I say) perfect!

  15. I'm sure, bearing in mind #1, that the shower will be perfect! Congratulations on hitting 300 and thank you so much for all of your hard work putting together the Hidgeppdge each week.

  16. That does look like a picture perfect trip. Hopefully we'll see some photos from the baby shower. That's nice that your mom and daughter from our side of the U.S. can be with you. It's not going to be hard to spend $300 on a new baby! I just went on Saturday to buy a pak and play to have at baba's for when little Addy comes to visit with her parents. A little bed at baba's house just for her and any subsequent grands that we are blessed with. Have fun celebrating!

Yes question #5 would be hard for you because you travel so much and have seen so many wonderful places. Love your answer to #6, I am guilty of that. If I had a grand baby coming I would have spend mine that way. Have a wonderful visit with you mother.
