I'm not usually on this road so have never seen it before, but it was so pretty in the setting sun. I tried to snap a picture as we whizzed by, which isn't the best but it's all I managed.
I made a chicken pot pie for dinner and we watched a movie we thought we might have seen, but since neither of us could remember for sure, it was fine. Welcome to 'the third act'-ha!
Saturday I washed all the slip covers for the chairs in our keeping room. Not gonna lie here...it's a job, but they come out beautifully, so it's worth doing from time to time. These chairs are where people naturally gravitate when they come in to my house, so they get a lot of use.
There's a seat cushion, a seat back, and then the chair cover itself, all of which zip snuggly around the cushions inside, so it can be a wrestling match getting them off and especially back on. Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous day. I like to set the covers outside on a drying rack so wanted to take advantage of the sunshine.
We have company coming Monday and I'm glad this is done. Hubs washed his truck because that's what he loves to do on a sunny Saturday morning.
Saturday afternoon we went to a party at a friend's house. So much fun! They had BBQ catered and best of all (aside from the glorious weather I mean) was the live music. Two local musicians who are both super talented, played for three solid hours, no breaks. We've seen them around town in one of the breweries and some of the dining spots that feature live music, but this was in someone's back yard and felt extra.
The musicians performed on our friend's dock and then the party go-ers sat on the hillside above them. It was a great set up.
Several boaters came by too, and listened in from the water, and we were kind of wishing we'd come by boat because it was a great night for it.
Sadly not as great a night for football. We got home and caught most of the Tennessee-Alabama game. Ugh. The hometown team also lost so a double whammy.
Sunday we woke up to rain, which we haven't had in a long while. We heard an excellent message at church, and hubs and I went to brunch right after. Then it was home to clean bathrooms and do some vacuuming so everything would be nice and tidy for our friends arriving Monday. Hubs and our houseguest worked together for a couple of decades+ and we haven't seen one another in a number of years. We're looking forward to showing them the lake and catching up in person.
Have a great week everyone!
Looks like a great weekend with productivity and lots of fun! We woke up to rain on Sunday which we needed- and got plenty of as it rained all day. I hope you have a great time catching up with your friends today :).
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice party! Have a great time with your houseguests! What a fun and full week you have!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing cotton blooming in the fields each fall! Thanks for sharing your photo of it. Looks like you had lots of great times this weekend. We had several outdoor events too and loved each one. The weather was ideal for each one, thankfully.
ReplyDeleteAww! The little one's playing soccer is just adorable and your table fire looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely weather you've been having, the party on Saturday sounds like a lot of fun!
Have a great week!
That cotton field is so pretty! The music lakeside sounds like a perfect fall night. Live music, but the comforts of home! I'm glad it was a good weekend of family, productivity and some relaxation. But I agree, it was not the best weekend for football. I was cheering for Tennessee and Ole Miss, which I realize most people don't cheer for both, ha! Enjoy your visit with friends!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful weekend~! Best of luck with your house guests- you two are the best hosts! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree.. the weekend should start on Thursday. 2 days are just not enough. Looks like you had a wonderful weekend. The BBQ at the friends house sounds perfect. Lovely cotton fields photo.
ReplyDeleteHi Joyce, I agree, the weekend should start on Thursday. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI thank you for sharing the photo of the cotton. My friend Lori visited Mississippi last October, she brought me back cotton seed. She said,"Carla, you can grow anything, how about cotton." I planted the seed, and yes, I have a cotton plant. It has lived in my unheated greenhouse all summer to get the most heat. I have four bolls, cotton bolls, but they are still green. The plant will soon come in the house, because our nights will start to dip into the low 30's. I hope I can get one boll to mature. :-) I will have Wisconsin cotton. Hee Hee!
Happy Week!! Carla
I would love the weekends to start on Thursday! It sounds like you had a very productive weekend. That party with the live music reminds me of our neighbors; they do that at least once or twice a summer and I enjoy the free concerts.
ReplyDeleteThat party looks like fun! And coming by boat does seem like the right idea:) I don't think I have ever seen a field of cotton...my goodness, that is pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI saw a cotton field when we drove out to the "country" for dinner last weekend. It's not as common here as it is in central Texas. The BBQ night at your friend's house looks extra special with the live music. What a treat. I hope you have a great time with your houseguests!
ReplyDeleteYeah it sounds like a lot going on this week, bloody nice photos
ReplyDeleteI agree... now that we're both retired, weekends often start on Thursday and even last until Monday! Looks like you had a beautiful fall weekend! Live music with friends sounds like such a treat! Enjoy your week with your guests!
ReplyDeleteI love your 'neighborhood'. Enjoy your company. Our company arrive on Friday.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed this recap because your life is so very interesting. We have out-of-town guests coming in on Thursday this week. I told her we would have lunch here, but there are too many choices not to eat out for dinner. They don't mind a bit.
ReplyDeleteYep weekends can start whenever you want when you're retired lol. sounds like you had another good one!
