Hello friends and hello Monday. Linking with Holly (Pink Lady) and Sarah (Sunshine and Books) today for their weekend catch up blog hop.
So. It snowed. It has been below freezing all weekend long. In South Carolina. Not cool.
I mean it was actually really really cool, but that's not cool. We Palmetto people like our warm temps and life lived outdoors and occasionally a boat ride mid-winter. Instead we have an icy driveway, frosty fingertips, and lots of time spent at home. I'm not complaining (much) because I love cozy at home days, but I also love getting out and about, and we haven't had a lot of that these past two weekends.
Wait. Friday we were out and about. Hubs and I had a date. It wasn't a day date, but it definitely still counts.
Let's back up and capture the whole weekend. There was still a fair amount of ice around all week following last weekend's ice storm, but I could get in and out of the driveway without a problem. We had snow in the forecast so I re-stocked groceries on my way home from my volunteer slot on Thursday afternoon. We went out to dinner that evening with some neighbors we hadn't spent time with in a long while and that was really nice.
Friday morning I had an appointment to have my hair cut and then my stylist also worked her magic to make it look sun-kissed. It takes half a day but it's worth it. I came home and got straight into some make ahead cooking just in case we had power issues with this second storm. The forecasters were calling for actual snow, and didn't seem too terribly worried about power outages, but still it's best to be prepared.
I made a pot of beef stew and a pot of chicken noodle soup and even though we never lost power we enjoyed these dishes all weekend long. I loved having food prepared and not having to cook over the weekend. I should do more of that in all types of weather.
Friday night hubs and I went to a nearby venue to see the band Lonestar. Raise your hand if you listened to country music in the 90's and 00's and you remember Lonestar. Their biggest hit was a song called Amazed and I think it became a wedding song for a lot of couples who married back in those decades.
Anyway, this venue is so nice. It's smallish and we were just four rows from the band. The seats are comfortable and parking for a show here is not a problem. I realize all of that makes me sound old, but whatever.
We enjoyed the performance so much. They're really talented musicians, the guitar player especially. They sang all my old favorites, which took me right back to living beside the Bay, little girls in the house, weekends spent boating with friends, and country music on the radio. Sigh.
There are still three original members of Lonestar with the group, and then two members who joined later but have been with them a while. The keyboardist was the 'boss' and he was funny and had a great rapport with the audience.
Did I sing along? How could I not? Hubs used to travel a lot with work (always, but particularly often in the 90's), and Lonestar's song, 'I'm Already There' especially makes me think of that season of life.
Where was I?
Oh yeah, the weather. We woke up to light snow falling Saturday morning, and it grew heavier as the day went on. We ended up with somewhere between two and three inches I think and that's a lot for our area.
Somebody loved it.
Hubs took the little brown dog out to play and he ends up with all these little ice balls stuck to his fur which means he has to be dried and cleaned off afterwards, but he LOVES it.
Hubs used the leaf blower to get some of the snow off the driveway. It was light and we no longer own a snow shovel so there's that. We watched Clemson basketball and read books and chatted, then had stew for dinner. After dinner it was Tennessee basketball and early to bed.
Just like the Pioneers.
Sort of like the Pioneers.
Not really like the Pioneers except we are going to bed early.
We knew church was cancelled for Sunday, as were I think all or almost all of the churches in our county, and schools are closed again today. I spent time Sunday morning digging in to the Wayne Grudem book I'm working through this year (Sytematic Theology). It's excellent, but it's not light and requires every ounce of concentration I can muster. A quiet Sunday morning was perfect for this.
I cleaned out my dresser drawers and the drawers in my bathroom vanity this weekend, did some laundry, and hubs ran the vacuum so a few things did get done that needed doing.
Mostly though it's quiet, beautiful, slick, and only 47 days until Spring.
If you're talking about your weekend hop over to the host blogs and add your link to the party.

But it looks so pretty lol. I'd rather have it really cold though I think than too hot. Cold you can wrap up against but there are only so many layers you can take off in the heat.
ReplyDeleteYour snow is pretty! Glad y'all got out for the concert and the venue sounds perfect! I like 90's country. Hope you aren't snowed in for too long & so smart to have pre-cooked meals.
ReplyDeleteI am the same way with music venues - easy parking, not too large, etc. I wish music would start at brunch time, though. I am the life of the party at brunch. I will have to look up Lonestar, though. I didn't do much country.
ReplyDeleteTwo comfort meals at the ready is so smart!
I remember Lonestar! I'm Already There is a good song. I love small concert venues. How cool to be in row four. That snow and the cold temps! Goodness, two weekends in a row for true winter weather seems like at least one too many! Your weekend sounds cozy, though, with making and eating soup, reading a good book, etc. I love those kinds of weekends. Have a great Monday!
ReplyDeleteI still find it so funny to read that schools and church are cancelled during three inches of snow- do you still find that funny? Love the dishes you made- perfect for snowed in days. Also LOVE the throw back pics- you guys look like movie stars- then and now :)
ReplyDeleteYou are too sweet. It is kind of funny how life grinds to a halt here with just a little bit of snow. It's so unusual I suppose it's not worth investing in a lot of equipment and road treatment for the amount it's used. We got literal feet of snow in NJ and you could almost always get out same day to the stores, etc. It was rare we were stuck for any length of time.
DeleteI think I do remember Lonestar! Fun!
ReplyDeleteI think we saw Lonestar in concert once upon a time in Calhoun, GA! :)
ReplyDeleteBrr! Just looking at those photos makes me feel cold! Everything does look so pretty though! It sounds like a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Lonestar are a blast from the past, I think I only know one song from them, Amazed! It sounds like you had a great evening.
It sure does look like your dog loves being out in the snow.
I was hoping to see how you fared with the snow. Looks like it was a nice covering. It always makes for cool winter photos. Glad you could still get out and about. Fun flashback photos of you. Greg has delved into the systematic theology book. I'm getting my brain blown by the Daily Doctrine book by Kevin DeYoung. Happy February to you!
ReplyDeleteYou did get a lot of snow! I love seeing the little brown dog, he is so cute.
ReplyDeleteI too am doing a theology study that 'requires every ounce of concentration I can muster' !!
I do remember Lonestar. What a fun date, love the photo of you both.
Like pioneers. Well sorta like pioneers. I loved that!! And thanks much for "We Palmetto people like our warm temps..." Right? I see/hear so many say, "its so beautiful" or "its so exciting...we never get snow..." and I'm thinking that is exactly why I would move south. No snow. I could stay right here is I just loved (yucky) winter weather! That said, your photos are really pretty...and that pup is having a ball!!!
ReplyDeleteBurr, it looks really cold. Good for you on restocking some food in the house and nice that you had dinner with friends. Good for you being prepared with some food. How nice that you went to a concert. Those are sweet photos you shared. Loved the photos of brown dog. Too cute! Glad you are enjoying your book. Way to go on the housework you did. Hope your week goes well.
ReplyDeleteYep, my parents texted me a picture of their snow this weekend; they were not happy either. "This is why we left New England" is the general gist whenever they get cold weather now. I had to remind them that it was much, much, much colder here! LOL
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of snow! Hopefully SC will start warming up soon. Nashville went above 32 for the first time in almost 2 weeks today...wow! What is up with this weather?! It looks like at least the dog enjoyed it! My son told me that he is starting a study of that book with some other guys and just ordered the book. I felt very informed because I had at least heard of it (through your blog!) Hope you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I remember Lonestar and loved them!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of snow for South Carolina. The concert looks fun.
ReplyDeleteThe little brown dog looks like he was having the time of his life! We have one more night of below freezing, then back in the 70s by Thursday! I'm ready! How fun to see Lonestar!! Great music!! Have a blessed February, Joyce!
ReplyDeleteThese are such cool photos
ReplyDeletei LOVE your hair in the pic of you hubby and your daughters..the long shag. Shag cuts are very on trend for Spring 2026 although my hair is far too thick to pull it off. Mine is currently a chin length bob and I'm cutting it to a bixie soon. But a friend of mine is getting the shag cut very similar to you in this pic!!
ReplyDeleteSnow is fun! I encourage you to rent some snowshoes and try them out. I am loving that we here in eastern NY are finally having a real winter. It's been far too many years since we had significan snow in January/Feb although I'm pretty much over the temps in the single digits every morning.
Have a great week!!
You no longer own a snow shovel. That surprised me just a little but how nice that the leaf blower was sufficient for snow removal. That's just the right amount of snow for those who don't wish to encounter it every year in abundance.
ReplyDeleteI so enjoy reading your posts. Sing along with Lonestar, you betcha!! What a very special evening that must have been. Enjoyed seeing your throwback photos, too.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the snow but probably because, like you, we get very little. We had a dusting with the first winter storm that made its way across country. Preceded by 2 days of rain...which is almost as rare as snow. Your photo of the snow covered steps was lovely. And the last photo with the bit of green grass peaking through the snow is so hopeful. Spring will be here before we know it.
Your posts always bring back so many memories as I find myself nodding in agreement - husband traveling in the 90's, Lonestar on the radio, sweet moments with our girls! You brought a smile to my face which I'm always grateful for! Sounds like you were prepared for the snow and were able to have a cozy weekend!
