Hello friends. I hope you had a fun fall weekend and are ready for the week ahead. Here's how ours looked-
Thursday was a gorgeous day and hubs and I went into tiny town that evening for the weekly Jazz On The Alley thing happening there. We haven't made it to a single one all summer, and with only two or three left on this year's calendar we were determined to get to at least one.
The town closes off the main street and sets up a big stage for bands to play. There are tables in the road and you can order food from the local restaurants or from one of the food trucks there and listen to music and chat with your friends.
The weather was perfect and we saw lots of people we know which is always fun.
Also our little town puts out an amazing Christmas light display and they're already at work doing the set up. I'm sure it's quite a job.
68 days y'all.
I've decided I might be that annoying person who wants to keep giving you a countdown. I didn't set out to be but somehow Christmas keeps popping up on my blog, and then I go check to see how many days until it's here and then I need to share.
Back to October...Friday hubs and I started the day at the grocery store as he has a fun getaway coming up later this week and needed a long list of things to bring. Once that was done and organized we spent the rest of the afternoon at home.
It might have been 86 degrees but I was sipping my afternoon hot tea on the patio anyway. Sometimes fall needs a nudge.
Which apparently I provided, because we went to the neighbors that evening to play cards and while we were sitting on their back patio, fall rolled right on in. The temperature dropped at least fifteen degrees and it felt wonderful.
The geese have been arriving which is a sure sign of the times.
Saturday was chilly and we went to our middle grandson's baseball game one town over. Perfect viewing weather and I wore a sweatshirt the entire game.
Meanwhile on the bleachers...
Best baseball sister ever has her own little entertainment set up.
We stopped for lunch on the way home then settled in to watch our favorite Tennessee Volunteers BEAT Alabama on a picture perfect fall day. Lots of upsets in the world of college football this weekend and our game was one of them.
At halftime we made the short ride over to another tiny town for their annual Oktoberfest celebration. They had televisions in the beer tent and it was fun to be in a crowd for the end of the game. Unless you actually went to Alabama you were cheering for Tennessee.
This particular Oktoberfest is kind of like a small town fair with German beer and an oompah band. As the evening goes on other local bands play, and the whole thing is capped off with a fireworks display.
Daughter1 and her family were there too and the kids had fun riding all the rides. We had brats and apple dumplings and hung out with friends.
We love small town life.
Also, we wore coats for the first time this season. And jeans and boots and I wouldn't have minded some mittens, but left those at home.
Sunday morning hubs and I went to church, then once home I worked on a little project I need to complete before Tuesday. Hubs went to a friend's house to watch football and I might have had a nap on the couch while he was out. Golden Autumn Sundays are made for napping.
Hubs grilled salmon for dinner and I finished some laundry and got a few things ready for the week ahead, which is going to be full. Very very full.
Hope you filled your tank this weekend with the people and things you love too. Happy Monday!

Looks like a great fall weekend and the weather even got the memo about fall :). I like small towns, too. You have some cute towns near you it looks like. How fun to have festivals and live bands to attend. There were so many college football upsets. And while my team wasn't upset, I sure was with the outcome :(. But happy for the Vols and Auburn for sure!! Glad you got a nap in especially since you have a busy week ahead.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a lovely weekend of fun.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice, full, fall weekend! Ahhhh! You did a lot! Wearing a sweatshirt just makes me happy. I bought a new one on Friday on clearance.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely weekend! I feel the same about the fall weather being ushered in all of a sudden. I've never been so excited! It was the same here for us all weekend. Oh, the upsets in college football! My boys were not happy about the UT/Alabama game, but I secretly loved that win. Ha! A golden autumn Sunday nap on the couch outside sounds like PERFECTION!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and fun fall weekend. Glad your temps are finally cooperating!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great event in your main street! What fantastic fun! I like the Christmas countdown from you. hehehe I am starting to get excited about it.
ReplyDeleteThe baseball game sounds like fun and Oktoberfest too! It sounds like a great day!
That fresh fall air felt so nice this weekend!
ReplyDeleteOur daughter filled her time at the sports fields for her brother's games with her own entertainment, too. As usual, you had a full and varied weekend. I, too, love small town events that always seem manageable for all the things like parking and seeing folk you know. Enjoy your very full week ahead!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were able to go. What a great week you had. I really enjoyed all of the photos.
ReplyDeleteGrilled salmon. That sounds good. What a beautiful weekend you had! Ours was good, too, with temps acting more like (a Florida) fall.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun weekend with all that entertainment.
ReplyDeleteMy weekend was fun, even though it was rainy on Saturday. Of note, Saturday evening was the earliest I have ever put the heat on (except when I lived in Iceland. That would be August). I hope that isn't a harbinger of chilly days to come.
ReplyDeleteI love those friends on the bleacher. :-) I do love baseball and our Brewers are in the World Series. :-)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the photos and all the fun. And the nap too.
xo
Happy New Week!
Oh my goodness, what a full fun weekend! The small town events sound so much fun!
ReplyDeleteHow 'bout those VOLS? 'bama who? That was a great game. Didn't get to see much of it but my sister provided color commentary while we Facetimed and scrapbooked together.
ReplyDeleteYay for wearing a sweatshirt all day. We are back to a high of 86* again today. One step forward, 2 steps back. I am drinking all the pumpkin coffee I can get over here trying to help nudge fall a bit.
Your small town activities are right up my alley...including the alley jazz night. Not a huge fan of jazz but enjoy music fests and food.
Loved this post, Joyce. Passing thru quickly, but enjoyed catching up! xo
