Note: oops. Forgot to post this week’s Hodgepodge questions. They will be up later today.
Someday I'll get back to blogging and reading my favorites but today week month is not that day. Whew we have a busy month on tap. On the bright side though, we had a lovely low key weekend with nothing we absolutely had to take care of. We were overdue for one of those and it was much appreciated.
Friday night we went with neighbors to a small local farm that had a BBQ truck and a favorite local musician playing on the property.
We brought lawn chairs and ate pulled pork and watched the goats play and the guitarist too.
The sunset was pretty in pink which is always a favorite.
We dropped the neighbors off at their house when the show ended, and as we came around the corner from their street to ours two black bears ran in front of our car. Always a bit thrilling to see them up close.
Saturday we drank coffee on the back deck, then made a second pot and drank more. We spent an inordinate amount of time sorting out our Halloween costumes for a neighborhood party and needed caffeine. We love a good costume and like to try and come up with something original. We think we have but I guess we'll see.
Saturday afternoon we watched our Vols beat Auburn and that was exciting. I get super nervous so had my laptop out the entire time and worked on trying to figure out the where and the when and the route and accommodations we'll need for a trip we're taking in 2027. Accommodations are the tricky part because even though the trip isn't happening for a whole year lots of places are already fully booked.
I also loaded a bunch of photos into a site my siblings and I have as we're putting together a slide show for a luncheon we're hosting in honor of my mom later this month. We've received our date from Arlington so will be trekking that way in a few weeks. Looking through decades of pictures is a rabbit hole like no other but it's been fun to see some I haven't seen in a long long time.
I'd planned to cook Saturday night but changed my mind, so we had a frozen pizza. I did manage to make a salad to go with, then we watched Clemson get their clock cleaned by Miami. Painful.
Sunday was church and I sent a spur of the moment message to our next door neighbors asking if they wanted to come for chili and cards that evening. They said it sounded like fun so that's what we did. Sometimes spontaneous invites work best.
I made chili, cornbread in the iron skillet which is the only way in my opinion, and a pan of brownies. I wiped down bathrooms and hubs vacuumed so the house was put in order. It wasn't exactly cool outside, but it was a gray rainy day and chili felt right. We had a nice time catching up and playing cards.
I'm linking with Holly (Pink Lady) and Sarah (Sunshine and Books) today for this not that interesting but really nice weekend. Hope you had a good one too.
Our weekends have been pretty full recently and I'm just along for the ride! I don't mind being busy/having a decent bit going on but it's kinda funny/ironic that our weekends started getting busier when I started working Monday through Friday. Ideally, not the best time to not be able to have completely lazy weekends but I'm sure we will have those upcoming :). Your Friday night looks fun and your Saturday chili meal with friends sounds, fun, too. Spontaneous plans sometimes are the best! Gray skies definitely called for chili :). Great pic of your mom and you and your sisters. You're the one in the middle right? I feel like one of your daughters looked just like you (or whoever is the middle girl in the photo as a child?) But you also look like you could be the girl in the blue dress? I could have looked at thousands of pictures of Abby for the ones I posted. I didn't have the time of course so I just quickly found a few :).
ReplyDeleteThe picture is my mom with her granddaughters. Mine are the two on the right. The one in blue is my mini : ) We still look a lot a like.
DeleteWhat a nice down weekend! That concert venue was so cute and it read it as the goats also played music. Lol. Why do brownies go so well with chili? I almost always make them together, too. Oh, Arlington. That is big. I want to hear about the luncheon for your mom, too. Going through the photos is hard. But also, it is beautiful because it shows you how much love you had and still have from her.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and chill weekend- sounds perfect Joyce! Your dinner last night is making my stomach growl ;)
ReplyDeleteI need to get an iron skillet, if for no other reason than making cornbread!
ReplyDeleteDid I miss reading there's no Hodgepodge this week?
That sounds like a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had a weekend at home with no commitments. Good for you! I was happy UT won too. I’m sure organizing pictures brings up lots of sweet memories. I’m excited to what about your 2027 trip and I’m always amazed when places are sold out so much in advance.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had such a lovely weekend! Friday night sounds like fun and what a pretty sunset! I can't wait to see your Halloween costumes!
ReplyDeleteHow great to be able to look back through all the old photos.
What a wonderful weekend ! Is there no Hodgepodge this week or maybe later ?
ReplyDeleteJoyce, I haven't read this post yet but I'm here to ask a question. I'm not seeing Wednesday Hodgepodge on my Feedly for this week. Are we playing this week??
ReplyDeleteA hole like none other. Looking through photos. You are not kidding!! Hope the memories brought hundreds of smiles...and warmed your heart!
ReplyDeleteYour weekend was more interesting than mine! I visited a friend in the hospital!! I always enjoy catching up with you here, Joyce. Have a happy week and try to find some time for YOU!! xo
ReplyDeleteThis past weekend I baked brownies in my cast iron wedge pan and I agree with you that cast iron is the best when making corn bread, too! Your evening at the farm with the entertainer and the goats looked magical, like something in a Hallmark movie. Thanks for the Hodgepodge questions. I hope to participate.
ReplyDeleteTwo bear in your neck of the woods!!! It is bear hunting season here in Wisconsin. My husband is a trap shooter and the treasure of the Brill Sportsman's Club. Several of his shooting buddies bear hunt. It is not something my husband got into. He is a bird hunter, grouse, woodcock and ducks.
ReplyDeleteI always like seeing your Halloween costumes.
I enjoyed just sitting here looking through your photos
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a quietish weekend - you always seem so busy and I'm sure there is a lot of prep going on for your Mom's memorial. I love looking through old photos but yes it is a rabbit hole.
