Welcome to the weekly Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions, add your link at the end of my post and then be sure to leave a comment for the blogger before you. That's what good neighbors do. Here we go-
1. What obligation do you believe you have to your country?
Respect the law, participate in the democratic process (vote!!), support our military men and women in whatever way I'm able, which includes standing for our National Anthem when it's played, pay taxes, be a good neighbor, care for the natural beauty found all across America.
2. October 12 is National Farmers Day? Do you know any farmers? What do they farm/grow/raise? Are there any farm stands where you live? Do you shop there?
My paternal grandparents were farmers and had acres and acres of land just outside of Denver. As kids we loved visiting out west...that's me on the left and my younger sister on the right and the cows just doing what cows do.
We loved playing in the barn with our cousins, chasing the cat who could be counted on to have kittens on a regular basis, 'swimming' in the big metal trough, breakfast cooked over an open fire on day trips up into the nearby Rocky mountains, and the great big clear blue Colorado sky.
3. What's a skill you think everyone should have? Tell us why?
Basic personal finance, simple cooking and housekeeping skills, and the ability to think critically. Why? Because these are things we use every single day, and life is harder than it needs to be if you can't manage the basics.
4. Favorite thing you've purchased this year?
All things wedding related.
5. What's your favorite place to visit in the fall?
The woods? Not sure how to answer this one. A drive into the nearby mountain town for lunch maybe. We have a lot of evergreens around the lake but there are beautiful fall colors nearby.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Y'all. These two cutie patooties who married nine months ago and have been living way way way up north in The Keystone state have taken a job promotion and will be moving to....drumroll please...
The great state of Tennessee.
Yes, the very same state Daughter1 and her family call home.
After 11 years of living hundreds and then thousands of miles apart these girlies who are the best of friends will now be living within two hours of one another.
And much much closer to us too! Daughter2 wrote a post sharing her thoughts about it all, which you'll find here -(Big Changes).
Happy Wednesday everyone!

Our school system has added a finance class to the curriculum! Glad daughter is moving closer to home!
ReplyDeleteI did as you suggested and jumped over to Daughter2's blog. I told her that one thing you Daley gals do really well is be real. I love that about all three of you. There is no pretense or pretending - life is real. Just know, I am thrilled for all of you to finally be within easy driving distance of each other. What a blessing long time coming.
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy Joy Joy! What wonderful news for your whole family! We drove across the great state of Tennessee and loved what we saw.
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful that your daughters will be closer to each other and to you. My youngest is on her way right now to spend almost a week with my oldest. I'm so happy for them.
ReplyDeleteYes to your answer for question #1. That is a wonderful memory with your grandparents. Again, another great answer for #3. Well you gave me chills...that is the best news on your girls!! How exciting.
ReplyDeleteHi Joyce,
ReplyDeleteWe did a Dave Ramsey course with our boys regarding finance. It is fantastic. It is geared to high school students and sets the course. I am thankful the boys are staying with it regarding their financial goals. I appreciate all that Dave Ramsey has done in regards to teaching. Now if our Government would take the course. ;-)
I am so excited for your family. God is Good!
Love, Carla
That will be exciting for everyone to be in a much closer distance to one another.
ReplyDeleteWent over and read your daughter's post. So exciting for them and won't it be wonderful for those sisters to be in the same state. My 2 daughters, who were also very close, are on opposite ends of the country. For them to ever end up in the same state would be miraculous but a dream come true!
ReplyDeleteLoved your list of skills ... I thought I could only pick one so chose cooking. But thinking critically is perhaps even more important, and so few people are doing it these days.
How absolutely wonderful about the girls being so close to each other again... and both of them closer to you and your 'hubs'. So great! I enjoyed the Hodgepodge, Joyce. Always fun and always brilliant. Thank you!! xo
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for your girls (and you) regarding the upcoming move!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time here and I loved the questions and reading the responses. What a blessing to have your daughters closer!!

ReplyDeleteIt looks as if you had the same childhood as I playing in a farm but not chasing the poor cat I pity the poor city children who believe that a steak grows on a tree !
ReplyDeleteSisters share such a sweet bond, How wonderful that everyone will be living closer, family is so important! Lovely photos, Thank you for hosting!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for your daughters (and you!) that you'll all be living closer.
