Welcome to a brand new month and another edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Here we go-
You set an unlit candle below the lampshade and the candle melts enough for you to get a pleasant aroma without actually lighting the candle. It's not huge and makes a nice counter light in my kitchen.
2. October is Country Music Month...are you a fan of country music? Do you have a favorite country artist? Ever been to Nashville? In terms of lifestyle are you more country mouse or city mouse?
We listen to a mix of music here and country is part of the mix. I like a lot of artists, both old and new. A few favorites are George Strait, Eric Church, Luke Combs, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, Brooks and Dunn, and Kenny Chesney.
I have been to Nashville more than once and like it okay. Last time I was there I thought it could use a good power wash. Just sayin'.
I'm a country mouse who enjoys visiting the city from time to time. I've always loved big cities but the crazier the world gets the less appeal a city holds.
3. How about 'country cooking'? (loosely defined as rich flavors, familiar foods, large portions, often fried, and often associated with the southern region of the US of A)?
chicken and dumplings-fried chicken-shrimp and grits-biscuits and gravy-mac and cheese-fried green tomatoes-cornbread-collard or turnip greens-deviled eggs-'barbecue'-gumbo-banana pudding
Which of the foods listed is your favorite? Any on the list you haven't tried or would say a firm no thank you to if offered?
I like southern comfort cooking, but am not a huge fan of fried foods in general and a lot of southern dishes feature fried foods. I prefer grilled, broiled, or baked. That being said, there's nothing on the list here that I don't like. I don't love collard greens so that would be my least favorite. They're a little too bitter for my taste. My favorite on the list is shrimp and grits. Deviled eggs would be a close second.
4. What's something that always has a positive impact on your mood?
I suppose I could go deep here, but I'm going another way-ha! Getting my hair cut and highlighted.
5. As we say so long to September share a noun, a verb, and an adjective that tells us something about how that month looked for you.
Y'all know I struggle with single words so I'm going with compound words instead. Two for the price of one-
birthday bonanza, schedule-slammed, lightning fast
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I bought my first Christmas present on Tuesday. A small stocking stuffer for one of my girls. They read here so I won't say more, but I popped into a nursery/gift shop to browse their fall decor and couldn't resist a peek into their Christmas shop.
Too early?
Sort of. I mean I haven't even dug into fall yet so I'm definitely not ready to see decorated Christmas trees all lit up, but there they were. Right behind the pumpkins. And looking so pretty!
So have you bought any Christmas gifts yet? Or is it just way too early to think about that? 86 days but who's counting?
I haven´t bought any presents yet but oftentimes I have purchased something by now. When I find things throughout the year I buy them (which is why it´s a little odd that I´ve bought nothing yet!). Your candle warming lamp is nice! I use the wax melts to create a scent without burning a candle. Staying at the Gaylord is nice and Nashville for me... the bar scene is definitely not for me! Thanks for the questions/link up and have a great day!
ReplyDeleteGood for you for starting your Christmas shopping early. I like to pick up little trinkets when I see them, but the bulk of our shopping happens between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our kiddos usually send us their lists in November, and we do try to stick to those with a surprise or two thrown in.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's too early! When you see something you should jump on it I have learned. I was already planning unique advent calendars to get my grown up kids yesterday. I think they will be tickled.
ReplyDeleteLove your answers! Love the new little lamp. One of my winter strategies is going to be to add cozy warmth and lighting and I think I might do that!
I love a cinnamon scent and a wood fire does feel a perfect smell for this time of year. What a pretty lamp and candle and such a good idea.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I always feel like a new person when my hair has been cut and dyed.
I've already bought a few Christmas presents but my thought is that it's a few less things I have to buy closer to the time!
I am with you on the food category-prefer things that are not fried and deviled eggs are one of my faves. I chuckled with your comment on Nasvhille needing a good ole power wash- I agree-ha! :)
ReplyDeleteI used to buy Christmas gifts year-round but have really cut back the last few years. It seems like we'd all prefer an *experience* over gifts, although who DOESN'T love a gift?? I didn't participate this week - would rather take my time to read other blogs this time around. I agree that fall has a very "distinctive" smell, right? It's a good time of the year - maybe that's why September rushed by so fast??? Happy Wednesday - thanks for the prompts and linky party :)
ReplyDeleteI like the look of that lamp/candle. I think I might have purchased a couple gifts for the grands but those might end up being fun Thanksgiving projects instead of Christmas. Costco had some lego kits that were unique, a typewriter and then a phone/walkie talkie set. I'm being slow with the fall decor. All of a sudden the October calendar got full here! Glad you had a good September!
ReplyDeleteHi, I like the candle lamp.
ReplyDeleteHa ... about the good old power wash needed. We have a friend who works in Memphis, let us just say, the clean up has started, he is VERY thankful.
The stories he shares regarding his drives into work, SCARY for this country mouse. He has lived and worked in the Memphis area for eight years. He is originally from our little town of Cameron, Wisconsin.
Have a blessed day Joyce!

Cinnamon is a nice choice and I love the lamp. I love that you listen to music. I definitely need to make changes in my life to read and listen to music. I like your choices of food. I don't care for fried foods either. I do love deviled eggs. I'm always asked to make them on Thanksgiving. True, it's a good feeling getting my cut and color. Good for you getting a Christmas present. I do have gifts for Adam and Gabby's dogs. 😂
ReplyDeleteI have one of those candle lamps and really like it.
ReplyDeleteI love to shop and only do sales so I 've already bought 4 gifts (all for my daughters..one was a custom painting of her kitty that her best friend from youth group made for me. It was definitely not on sale but the money was worth it as she is a very talented painter.)
ReplyDeleteI love lemon and cinnamon candles. Lemon I tend to use in spring and summer.
Oops....I didn't see part two of the southern food question. I'm not a fan because of the high calories and not super nutritious. but i did answer it.
I absolutely love autumn and enjoyed this week's questions.
Naw, it's not too early to shop for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty lamp/candle. I have a small shelf space in our new home that we cleared off this week and I'm trying to decide what to put in that spot. This gives me a good idea.
I've never had most of the foods on that list.... and honestly I don't think I'm missing anything! LOL. I am not a big fried food fan and I don't like most gravy or sauce either. I don't think it's ever too early to start Christmas shopping. I used to knock a lot of my list out with after Christmas sales the year prior though so I might not be a good one to go by.
ReplyDeleteI have a lamp/candle. The one I have I am able to set a timer, which I love. The citrus smells are my go to in the spring and summer.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that most people posting today were not a fan of Southern food! Since I grew up in Texas, I kind of thought that was comfort food for everyone. I'm intrigued by the candle lamp. I do the wax melts, but this might serve the same purpose. I agree about Nashville needing a power wash. I think they have grown faster than they can keep up with. When I was there with my daughter looking at apartments, I noticed shattered glass all along the street...lots of car breakins! And this is in what I think is a safe area around VUniv. We made sure to get an apartment with a parking garage. I haven't thought about Christmas yet, and I really need to. We have 2 family birthdays in November and December and then Christmas. So lots of gift buying in my future! Thanks for the fun link up!
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the lamp candle also I start my Christmas shopping in January
ReplyDeleteI love that lamp that is just warm enough to release a nice lite aroma! Will have to check it out - thinking of Christmas shopping now!! LOL Thank you for all the fun, Joyce. I didn't read the instructions properly for #5 but am not going back now to make the changes. Sorry 'bout that! Peace & blessings!!
ReplyDeleteI have not thought about a single Christmas gift! We have some good friends who live outside of Nashville. We haven't been to see them in several years, but I can imagine that downtown Nashville might need a "bath"!
ReplyDeleteI think I bought the first Christmas gifts back in February (caught a sale on what will make lovely stocking stuffers...)
ReplyDeleteI love Southern food but agree that I like to avoid fried stuff. Now and then I eat it but it's not a staple. We bought our middle an Xmas gift already too - a huge Lego set.
