Hello friends and happy Memorial Day. I’m especially grateful today for the men and women who've given their lives in service to our country, and the freedoms we enjoy because of them. It's good to pause and remember.
Our weekend was, in a word, drenched. Wow. It rained here. A lot. The whole weekend in fact. We're in a bit of a drought situation so it's good I think, although not sure we needed it all to come down in a single weekend. Hubs and I just embraced the forced relaxation, because no way were any outdoor projects happening, no fun cookouts, no sunset boat rides. You'd need sun for that.
We cancelled our Netflix subscription about a year ago, but my daughter2 and I wanted to finish watching the Great British Baking Show we started when I visited her in March, plus I wanted to see Remarkably Bright Creatures, so I resubscribed and we spent the weekend catching up on all the shows we've missed.
This post is gonna be a little bit 'here's what I watched on TV' the past three days, but whatever. An alternate title might be 'what I didn't cook this weekend' but I'll let you decide.
Thursday we went out for sushi and I had the spiciest spicy tuna roll ever. We came home and watched the octopus movie which we both enjoyed. I read the book quite a while back but hubs didn't know the story. I appreciate a movie that follows the book plot.
Friday morning we went out to breakfast at a new-to-us spot. I had their french toast which was delish. We stopped at Daughter1's house on the way home because she had the new bow ready to go for my front door wreath. These bows are somewhat pricey online, so we buy the ribbon at Hobby Lobby and she works her diy magic to make one that's pretty for half the price.
She made me one in the fall, then a second I've had up since Valentine's Day, and now a patriotic summer design which I love.
We wandered through her garden while we were there, and it's thriving. I'm looking forward to her sharing the harvest.
Friday night we watched The Woman In Cabin 10, another book I'd read a while back that was turned into a movie, and the movie reminded me how annoying I found the book.
Saturday we woke up to more rain, a ridiculous amount in fact, the kind that spills out of your gutter and causes even the turtles to run for cover.
Hubs had been fighting a cough for a couple of days so I decided to make a pot of chicken soup, which is good for whatever ails you. I don't normally make chicken soup in May, but the gray skies and cooler temps made it sound inviting.
We started watching Season 3 of The Diplomat, which is so good! We binged a few episodes until we could no longer stay awake, and finished it Sunday afternoon because...it was still raining.
We went to church Sunday morning and it felt good to leave the house. My son-in-law had taken the two boys to watch the Braves play in Atlanta so hubs and I took daughter1 and her little miss to brunch after church ended. Since you're tracking all the things I didn't cook you should know I had Eggs Benedict.
Hubs and I finished The Diplomat and since there was a break in the rain (not the gray skies) late afternoon, we decided to take iced coffees down to the dock and see what we could see. There were a few boaters out, but it was breezy and we didn't stay long.
shhh...don't tell anyone but I kinda loved it.
Linking with Holly (Pink Lady) and Sarah (Sunshine and Books) today for their weekend recap blog hop.

Rain was one of the themes of our weekend as well! I'd heard that cruddy weather for the weekend was far reaching and I guess it really was...Your new wreath looks so nice. Wreaths are one of those things that you can DIY fairly easily with some practice and know how and save a lot of money- the cost to buy them decorated seems really high especially when the material used to decorate are ones that aren't super high in cost. That garden! Everything is looking so good and it looks like quite soon you should be able to enjoy some bounty provided it's shared with you (lol, I'm sure your daughter will share with you!).
ReplyDeleteI feel like you might have needed this weekend after how busy you have been! Hope hub's cough is better! I also don't usually make chili in May but I did!
ReplyDeleteWe had lots of rain too but luckily it didn't start until later on Saturday so we did get in some much needed yard work... and we're still waiting for it to stop or let up. We also needed some rain and had very little planned so I didn't mind the enticement to stay indoors and relax.
ReplyDeleteHappy Memorial Day!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! It does sound like you had a lot of rain. It's good that it came but not all at the same time. It sounded like the right time to re-subscribe to Netflix and what delicious looking food. Your door wreath is so pretty and the garden looks fantastic!
Drenched is definitely the word for the weather this past weekend. And, this morning, it seems to be lingering. Not pouring but wet. You made the best of the weekend, though....and I love your new wreath. I was such a slacker with red, white and blue this weekend - sigh.
ReplyDeleteWe had so much rain over the past week, but we needed it. Thank goodness it cleared in time for the wedding we attended yesterday. It sounds like you had a great weekend with all the shows and things you didn't have to cook! Sometimes we need downtime like that. I'm inspired by that ribbon on the wreath. Where did you get the wreath itself?
ReplyDeleteI agree, it is good that you got the rain. We like Netflix and that show. So you were catching up? Do you know if there are any new episodes? I'm actually very tired of TV right now. With the issues I've had this past year I've had to watch too much of it! Those meals look delicious. I have to say that the rain does look pretty in the photos. The bow looks lovely. Your garden looks great and I LOVE turtles. The Diplomat was a good series. Sounds like you had a nice Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWe were blessed with rain here, too, but not as much as what came to your house. I love falling asleep at night with the lightening flashing outside, the thunder rolling, and hard rain pelting the roof.
ReplyDeleteWe spent our weekend quite similarly. It was rainy here as well. We watched Alien for the first time and started watching Young Sherlock on Amazon.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty cool and rainy here too but the sun finally came out today (Monday)- wishing us both sunnier days ahead!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED the octypus movie!! I will skip the cabin 10 movie you mentioned. If it bugged you, I'm sure it would also bug me! LOL It has been a rather lazy weekend for me, especially today. After our walk this morning, I did a little cleaning and then nothing else. We are supposed to have rain all week and a bit lower temps. Sure hope so! We need rain so badly. Have a blessed week ahead, Joyce! xo
ReplyDeleteThere has been a lot of rainy days here during the last week, I said to my sister why dose it have to rain when I need to go out
ReplyDeleteSame! Same! Same! It rained all weekend here in Alabama, too. We had a brief spell on Saturday morning (maybe two hours) where the sun came out very briefly and there was no rain. The rest of the weekend it was either raining, about to rain, or just finished raining. The moms with littles were going crazy, I'm sure. During a brief one hour of non-rain, there were a lot of families in the park. I told Mark that the parents must have been desperate to get outside because the kids shoes and clothes were going to be really yucky afterwards!
ReplyDeleteFunny as it sounds, I wish we had gotten more rain. We did have some, for sure, but the pool needs water and obviously with the drought, more is better.
