The Merry Merry Month Of Hodgepodging

Welcome to the month of May and also to this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge. So glad you've joined the link up here today. If you've answered the questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for your neighbor there. Here we go-

From this Side of the Pond
1. Mayday! Mayday!...when was the last time (or a recent time) you literally or figuratively needed to call for help? Elaborate.

Maybe not mayday exactly, because mayday sounds like an emergency, but I do always yell for hubs to help get new sheets on our bed. The mattress is so ridiculously heavy I feel like in another ten years I'll need to call in the professionals when it's time to change the sheets. I can get the fitted on without too much trouble, but it takes both of us to get that top sheet on.

2. May Day...when was the last time you danced? Do you have a lot of baskets? What's something you keep in a basket? What's your favorite purple flower?

Hubs college fraternity had a big anniversary celebration a couple of weeks ago with a great band, and we danced a lot. We like to dance.

What do I keep in a basket? I have a basket of blankets people can grab for the porch and a basket of 'indoor' blankets too. I also have a basket for easy grab snacks in my pantry and a basket of books I put out when the grands are here.

My favorite purple flower is the lilac. I also love a purple iris.

3. What's something you may do this month?

Get my wallpaper hung in the lower level guest suite bath? Or at least get it scheduled. It's a tiny job so we'll see if I can make that happen. I have finally reached out to an installer so if not May (May is pretty packed with things here already on the calendar) then June for sure.

4. Do you like eggplant? Quick topic changes lol? If you said yes in answer to the eggplant question how do you like yours prepared? Of the following purple foods, which one is your favorite...plums, purple carrots, purple asparagus, eggplant, acai berries, blackberries, purple cauliflower, elderberries, purple potatoes, or passion fruit?

I love eggplant, my favorite is homemade eggplant parm and I especially like Alex Guarnasachelli's recipe. It is super labor intensive but so scrumptious it's worth it. I typically make it once a year with eggplant from my daughter's in-law's garden.

I like all the purple foods listed, but plums are my favorite.

5. The calendar turns on Hodgepodge Day...

"Then you have to remember to be thankful; but in May one simply can't help being thankful that they are alive, if for nothing else."-L.M. Montgomery

Tell us one thing you're thankful for today.

Hubs and I finally sat down together and sorted out flights for a trip we have coming up this fall. This is always the hardest part of travel planning and I'm grateful and excited to have this bit done, and have the dates officially on the calendar.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Do any of you have your blog printed into a book? I've been using Blog2Print for years to do this and I like their finished product. Sadly I see they are closing up shop, so I'm looking for another option. Please share if you have one.

  1. I've thought about having my blog printed into books. I've never done it but think it is a great idea. I don't think I knew that you had a daughter-in-law! It is cool that she has a garden. It is so exciting that you booked your flights!!

  2. I am ready to get some fresh veggies from my garden; it is just too early right now to set veggies out. We usually have one more cold spell to go!

  3. I don't have my blog published anywhere else but I have been doing the painstaking task of copying each post over to a word doc. In whatever plan I have on wordpress, there's on way to export so it's a one at a time kinda thing. Sigh.

  5. I get that, Mark has to put on the bottom sheet on our bed. It is deep and also a sleigh bed so I can't do it at all. That anniversary celebration sounds like it was fun. I forgot about my blankets that are in a basket in the family room. Lilacs are so pretty. We don't have any here. That will be wonderful getting that wallpaper up. Your eggplant dish sounds great. How exciting to have your trips planned. I don't have my blog printed out. I did have them do my trip to Europe years ago but that's it. I'm sorry to hear they are closing. Hope your day goes well.

  6. I said lilacs too. Planning trips can be so fun and/or frustrating. I'm glad you got that part done. Have a great day.

  7. We have to sort out our flights with our kids, too. I totally forgot about lilacs! I love lilacs. I've got to get around to doing some books so I'll be interested in any sites others recommend to you. I love the ideas of all your baskets! I think I'll add a basket of books to our family room for the grands instead of keeping all of them on a bedroom bookcase. Happy May to you!

  8. Lilacs are one of my favorite purple flowers -- maybe THE favorite.

I haven't tried having my blog printed into a book, but I'd like to -- especially the recipes and the memories.

  10. I have never used the blog to print before. Sounds like a good idea. I have saved the post-text from my other webblog(2002-2020) I need to print things out. That is nice that you like to dance!

  11. Hi Joyce, I’ve boon hopping around blogland today and discovered yours. If hadn’t already posted this morning, I’d join your hodgepodge. Next week!

    I’ve used Blog2Print for years too. I have a book for every year I’ve been blogging—since 2008. I don’t know what I’ll do now!

  12. I bet I can guess where you and hubs are going but will wait to hear from you!! Yes to lilacs. I miss them. I've not printed by blog but it would be fun to go back to my Yahoo360 and Multiply blogging days. I've been blogging since 2007 but only here on Blogger since 2012. Thanks for another fun and interesting Hodgepodge!! xo

  13. Mayday! Mayday!...when was the last time (or a recent time) you literally or figuratively needed to call for help? Elaborate.

Only yesterday, due to uncontrollable shaking in my legs, I came close to falling a few times.

May Day...when was the last time you danced? Do you have a lot of baskets? What's something you keep in a basket? What's your favourite purple flower?

Only yesterday I did a little dance with Sam. No only one basket, which has nothing in it at this time. Would have to be lavender.
What's something you may do this month?
    Nothing just another month

    Never had eggplant.

  14. Alex's recipe looks and sounds amazing! I may have to tell my reservations to sit down and shut up, pour a glass of good red and try it.
A good part of my prior vacations' enjoyment was in the planning. Can't wait to hear about your upcoming trip!

  15. I can change the sheets by myself but it goes so much quicker and easier when my hubby helps me, so I'm very glad he's willing to do that! I've never had my blogs printed into book form and I really should have. I don't know where I'd start. I've been thinking recently about going through all of my homeschool blog's posts and updating and making it evergreen. HUGE job. But I'd like to compile a lot into a book too.

  16. Yum! I saved that parm recipe on pinterest. I also LOVE plums!!! Enjoyed your answers....I realized I never got around to commenting last week, then I thought "well, I'll just comment on whoever commented on mine from last week" (which was zero...haha), so I figured I'd make rounds and do some commenting, then I'll hit this weeks
