The Merry Month of May Hodgepodge

Welcome to another edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. Answer the questions on your own blog, and then be sure to leave a comment for the blogger who linked before you. Here we go-

1. What's something fun you're looking forward to on your May calendar?

I'm visiting my Daughter1 on the west coast this week, definitely something I looked forward to, and something I'm enjoying. Hubs and I have some fun weekend plans with friends mid-May, and then fun Memorial Day weekend plans with more friends later in the month so Hello May!

2. What are some images that come to mind when you hear the word mother?

Well when I think of my own mother I tend to picture her somewhere in her late 30's/early 40's, baking in the kitchen, working in the garden, or walking in the door from her job at the library with a pile of books in her arms. I think of her sitting on the end of my bed listening to all my teenage worries. I remember her taking care of me when my own babies were born. I think of the love she has showered on my girls in a hundred little ways. I think of a listening ear, a warm blanket, hot tea at the kitchen table and feeling safe.

3. What's something beautiful you own or have seen that's made of glass?

My daughter and I spent Monday at the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum in Seattle. I've loved his work since first seeing an exhibit he did at Kew Gardens several years ago, and the museum in his home state did not disappoint.  I took a bunch of pictures and I'm sure I'll share more once I'm back home, but for now-

4. Was today typical? If not what made it unusual?

Hmmm...what is typical for us these days? I'm out of town which is actually kind of typical, but I'm with my daughter and son-in-law and I haven't seen them since Christmas so a bit unusual too

5. What is a quality you wish you could have more of?

Musicality.

6. What's the next major purchase you need to make? Will it happen in the month of May?

As you may recall, we're building a house so it feels like major purchases are happening on a pretty regular basis around here. Next up is flooring, and yes it will happen in May.

7. What responsibility/job/work did you dislike while growing up but has proved helpful to you as an
adult?

Probably most basic household chores...recognizng that these chores need to be done every.single.week or in some cases daily whether you feel like it or not.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

We're on our way to see The Jungle Book  shortly (Tuesday evening). You're never too old!

  1. Oh, we loved the Jungle Book, but decided our two youngest grandchildren aren't ready for that. I enjoyed your answers about your mom. I had forgotten to add about my mother working in her garden. She loved her flowers. And I visited the Chihuly garden a couple of years ago. Have a wonderful visit.
I know you will treasure your visit with your daughter.

  5. The Chihuly glass went on tour and I saw it here in Dallas. It is amazing. I had no idea there was a museum. That is now on my bucket list! You are getting closer on the house! When the flooring goes in, that really makes you want the little details to be finished so you can move in. Enjoy The Jungle Book-Let us know what you think. Have a super, awesome week and safe travels.

  9. I've heard that The Jungle Book is a great movie for adults, too. So happy to hear you are "out west" enjoying a visit with D1 & SIL!! The art museum where I work has a Chihuly in our permanent collection, and we had an exhibit of his work quite a few years ago. I also went to St. Pete and Orlando to see Chihuly exhibits. Lovely work. I loved your answer to #2. Keep having fun out there!!

  10. We took our first visit to the Chihuly Gardens in December - absolutely stunning. I really wanted to take a piece home but settled for a glass candy cane from the gift shop.

  18. Isn't the PNW fantastic? One of Tommy's sister's lives in Tacoma and we've were there two years ago and visited the Chihuly Museum and Gardens. They will be moving soon so not sure we'll get back out there while they live there.

Continue to enjoy your time there!

  22. Good luck with your home building. It can be trying at times. We're remodeling a house we bought a 1/2 hour drive from where we live now. As soon as it's finished we'll be moving. We're getting ready to put the house we live in now up for sale. That won't be fun either.
