Welcome to this week' s edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Here we go...
1. How would you define 'the good life'?I checked my phone to confirm, but my most used app is Notes. I jot all sorts of things I want to remember there, and have headings like local sites, books, shows, blog ideas, restaurants, travel tips, quotes and more. I also have a note where I drop song titles in my efforts to create a top 100 playlist. I'm getting there.
Am I proud of it? I wouldn't say I'm proud because how often I use an app doesn't feel like something that engenders pride. That being said, I'm not embarrassed either, which feels like a distinct possibility with some of the apps out there.
3. 'Every rose has it's thorn', 'everything's coming up roses', 'looking through rose-colored glasses', 'it's no bed of roses' or 'stop and smell the roses'...which rose idiom best relates to something in your life currently. Explain.
When I look at the June calendar I see a little dot on every day of the month, but two. Some of the dots mark appointments, some mark events happening on a given day, some mean houseguests are coming and/or going, and all that to say it's a busy month. Good busy, but busy nonetheless. I want to make sure I take time to 'stop and smell the roses' and I will.
4. How do you feel about floral flavorings in food or drink (rose, hibiscus, elderflower, lavender)?
Not a fan, particularly of anything with rose flavoring added. I don't mind elderflower if it's not too heavy.
5. Over the course of your life what have you probably spent more time pondering than anything else?
What does God want me to do, and am I doing it?
This question shapes how I view my purpose, how I spend my time and resources, how I make decisions, and how I relate to others in my role as daughter, friend, parent, grandparent, and a partner to my husband in marriage. There is no area of my life left untouched when I ask this question.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Tuesday was Primary Day in the Palmetto State. Do you vote in the primaries? When you vote do you research the candidates or go in blind and make your best guess?
I open the sample ballot and then I make hubs and I little cheat sheets to take with us. If there are questions on a ballot I like to read those ahead of time. We're electing a new governor this year, and a senator, and then some state/local offices too and I want to know who I'm voting for.
Someone running for state representative knocked on our door the other day and we looked him up because we were impressed by his effort.

My most used app is google maps; though I really use my phone the most as a camera. I don't like floral flavorings at all.. probably because as much as I love actual flowers their scent often bothers me and makes me sneeze.
ReplyDeleteI could not come up with an answer for the "pondering" question, but when I read your answer . . .yes!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried a Hugo Spritz or St. Germaine Spritz. It's really nice and not too much in my opinion. I agree about the rose flavor. Too perfumey!
ReplyDeleteGreat hodgepodge!
I do vote in the primaries... most years. I may have missed a year or two. I don't always investigate the candidates before. I think the two parties are so different and one party is so diametrically opposed to everything that I believe in that I will easily not vote for a candidate who has one particular letter behind his or her name. For state Supreme Court justices running, the ballot does not disclose party affiliation. For those, I make sure beforehand that I know which candidates I want to vote for. I like your pondering question. That is a good one!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same when it comes to voting, but in the primary they candidates are all one party, so I try to weed out the worst ones lol. It's a tough job!
DeleteI found the first question hard to answer too but got there in the end.
ReplyDeleteI think you should be proud that your notes app is your most used, at least it is something productive and useful!
The only flowery drink I will entertain is elderflower as long as it's not too strong.
Wonderful questions as always Joyce! Stop and smell the roses was a big one it looks like- we need to force ourselves to do that more :)
ReplyDeleteGreat answers today! I think stopping to smell the roses is a great theme for the month. I also love how you answered the first question! I always did my homework when it came to voting; I also always took a cheat sheet, because I knew I'd get in there and forget.
ReplyDeleteWe have a new governor election this year too, I do plan to vote in the primaries.
ReplyDeleteWow. A candidate at your door. I'm impressed. It's always a good reminder to stop and smell the roses and pondering what God would have us do is the best. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteWonderful answer for #1. Interesting, I don't even know what notes is. Wow, you are going to be busy. Enjoy and do take time to smell the roses. Beautiful answer for #5 and what God wants you to do. We voted about a week or so ago. Wow, that was nice of that person to come to your door. Hope you have a great day.
ReplyDeleteI agree and say Amen to all your answers. We have a big November election here so yes, I voted in the primary. Even though the odds are against us here, we just never know the outcome. As my mom used to say, " stranger things can happen" and if Steve Hilton actually takes California I want to be a part of that!
ReplyDelete"We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:18-20)
I had a candidate at my door a couple weeks ago and NO way will I be voting for him. I won't say why here as it might be divisive.
ReplyDeletestop and smell the roses is vital!
LOVE your answer to #1 and if I was playing along today i'd probably say something similar. My relationship with Jesus is first and foremast and HE is the WAY to an abundant life.
Hi, I was wondering how Lindsey Graham did in the election. I was not keeping up with it yesterday. I also do a cheat sheet. Usually the way the referendums are worded are rather confusing. We take the time to figure it all out.
ReplyDeleteI love your rose photo.
Enjoy the month of June.
xo
Oh, I use the Notes app a lot as well. Great answers! Happy Wednesday Joyce!
ReplyDeleteHi Joyce, when it comes down to it, we answer to one and that is God. I think we think more about it as we age. My husband and I have voted by mail for years. We both worked for the postal service and voting stuff was high priority. It still is. Calif. has the largest number of registered voters in the nation. I remember working the busy days of the Christmas season along with Valentines, voting and tax times. Those were busy days before automation and digital movement. Thanks for the questions!
ReplyDeleteExcept the phone and "ponder" , we mostly agree on everything ! Am I happy that I don't have to vote especially when I think the candidates are all big 0 ! I have never voted in my life, I was not allowed. As German living in Belgium, I was not allowed to vote (anyway I didn't know the politicians) in Belgium I was not allowed because I am German, and that would have been the only country where I know all these clowns. I also was allowed to vote in Italy, because I am Italian by marriage, but there I don't know anybody either. But what I read about all candidates in all countries, I wouldn't know who to vote, they are all the same or even worse when I doubt about his mental health !
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your answers. These were fun questions this week
ReplyDeleteYou had a great answer for #5. Mine was much more flippant lol. I hope you do get time to smell the roses this month.
ReplyDeleteI use "notes" on my phone, too. That's where my grocery list is. Thanks for another fun Hodgepodge, Joyce. I always enjoy reading your answers to your questions!! xo
ReplyDeleteI loved the question you ask yourself (#5) That is an important question that I try to ask myself regularly as well. The answers affect whether we're living the good life too.
ReplyDeleteI vote in every election that I'm eligible to vote in and usually do my research ahead of time, especially for something like school board. This year's primary was a little different for me, because it was one of the times I was so busy with all the other things in my life that it didn't occur to me that the primary was so close so I completely ran out of time to research and did a very hasty job of it. I would be very impressed with any candidate that takes the time to actually go knock on doors and engage directly with potential voters. I hope I'd be able to come up with the questions I'd want answered if they ever show up at my door!
Hope you're having a great week!
I should look into that Notes app on my phone. I've not used it, but per your description of how you use it, I could find it to be very helpful. I tend to send myself text msgs, add to my calendar, and emails to remind myself of things, but this Notes app might be a better idea. Not having techie younger adults close by tends to make me more tech-illiterate than I was with my late hubby, who was all over such things.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reflecting on the questions this week. And have enjoyed reading the responses of so many. I am interested to learn more about Notes. I think I have it on my Google Pixel. Sure need to investigate. Beats sending emails to myself over and over or sending FB messages to my sister and telling her to disregard them, that I am just trying to remember something or save something.
ReplyDeleteWe vote in most of the elections. I have been so frustrated by the candidates in recent elections that I just have no idea which way to turn.
