Welcome to this week's edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Hope your day is merry and bright! Now here we go...
1. Do you struggle with the commercialization of the holiday season? What helps you keep your focus when the season’s busyness and commercialism start to take over? It's disappointing but I don't know that I struggle with it. I stay in my circle this time of year. I concentrate on my family, and the people whose paths cross mine. Less news, more Jesus and the miracle of His birth.
3. December 9th is National Christmas Card Day. Do you still send Christmas cards? If so does yours include a photo or is it a more traditional card, or maybe homemade? How do you feel about the tradition of exchanging cards at the holidays? If Hanukkah is the holiday you celebrate in December do you send cards to mark the occasion?
I love Christmas cards, both the giving and the receiving. We have friends and family scattered here there and everywhere and I enjoy hearing from them at Christmas especially. A photo included or as part of the card is nice too.
4. What's your least favorite holiday related task? What's your favorite?
My least favorite holiday related task is the wrapping. Does anyone else get a backache when they wrap presents? I try hard not to save it all for the end, but I'm not always successful at wrapping ahead.
My favorite is probably baking because I enjoy making cookies and I enjoy giving them away. I love choosing our Christmas card each year too.

6. Insert your own random thought here.
Who watched the Kevin Costner special on the birth of Jesus (The First Christmas)? What did you think? There were about a million commercials but overall I thought it was very well done. I'm happy (and not gonna lie, a little surprised) to see the gospel story presented on ABC of all places. If you missed it I think you can still find it on streaming services and Hulu.
Merry Wednesday everyone!

I don´t watch any network TV so I am never aware of what´s on- I had no idea that Kevin Costner was in a special on the birth of Jesus. It is cool that a network broadcast the story of Jesus' birth. The small tree in your first photo is really cute. I love a themed tree. Thanks for the link up!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea Kevin Costner did a Christmas Special. I'll have to check it out. I love the answer your grandson gave your hubs!! :D
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love experiencing Christmas through the eyes of my grandchildren. They epitomize the innocence and wonder of the season.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the excitement of Christmas is contagious with little ones! I haven't seen that show but need to look it up to watch this season. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteHow do you do it? Every week you create such great questions for all of us! You are appreciated!!! Loved your answers, too!
ReplyDeleteFocusing on your people- staying in your circle- less news- all really great ideas for this season :) Thank you for hosting such a dynamite linkup!
ReplyDeleteChristmas is definitely magical through the eyes of little ones! I love your grandson's answer to how he was yesterday. Sweet little buddy! I got kind of tickled over how opposite our this or that answers are! It's okay, we can still be friends. I wrap at my kitchen table or at the island in my kitchen. Where do you do this? Maybe that's the problem? Just a thought. Merry Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteAww! I love how excited little one's get about Christmas, my nephew is the same.
ReplyDeleteYes! I am the same when it comes to the wrapping! I always say I will do it early but never do. It's a job for later in the week.
We had many of the same answers, except I actually enjoy wrapping the gifts. We watched the Kevin Costner show, and I was also pleasantly surprised to see it on network tv. At first, I thought they took too much liberty with the dramatization, but ended up thinking it was really well done.
ReplyDeleteYes to pain while wrapping! I can never figure out the best place to do it - the table or the floor - so I rotate but I do find myself becoming annoyed by the entire thing,
ReplyDeleteGreat answer for #1. Me thinks someone has to be told each day that it is not Christmas, yet. LOL! So cute. More than any year ever, it seems, Jesus has been mentioned on many networks. Yes, I do get a backache from wrapping presents! Happy Christmas memories to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteLoved your This or That. Also smiled at your grandson's comment when your husband asked him how he's doing.
ReplyDeleteSorry about my link. I have a new computer and I don't know what I did wrong.
ReplyDeleteLovely answer for #1. Yes, definitely the excitement of children is the best. Yes, sending cards is fun. Yes, wrapping will be the last thing I do. I wish I could get my desire to bake back. Last Christmas was hard and this one isn't much better, but I might try. I almost have my tree done. I'm not sure I've ever had wassail. I enjoyed reading your this and that. Have a beautiful day.
Grandchildren make Christmas magical. I haven't begun wrapping any gifts as of yet!! I have them all separated and just keeping looking at them thinking they will wrap themselves!
ReplyDeleteHello, I really liked your answer to #1.
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of your sweet one admiring her tree.
I love the answer your grandson said, too cute.
I will be working on addressing my cards today. ;-)
Unfortunately, being great-grandparents has removed us from the direct interaction of the little ones and their exuberance during the Christmas season. We do miss that, but it's all part of evolution, I suppose. This is the time of reflection, rejoicing, and memories for sure.
ReplyDeleteWill need to see if we can catch that Christmas special - thank you for mentioning it. Staying out of stores is key to staying sane, right? I'm sure this is a VERY magical time of the year with grandchildren!! I just love that we're pretty much guaranteed to see all of our family - the MOST important thing to me :)
ReplyDeleteI have a very tall table that I stand at to wrap gifts so I avoid the backache.... and then when I'm done that table folds up nice and small (almost like one a masseuse would use) and I can tuck it away until next year.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny that you don't like wrapping the gifts, I am the same ! Now as the grandson is 15 he of course prefers money to buy the gift himself or save it for something expensive and buy it later, and we are only 3 adults, so we just give one little gift to each other. We will celebrate here already on the 20th, because they have to visit the other family (divorced parents) who also live one at the German border and the other a little nearer ! That makes 3 Christmas celebrations ! Although in Holland they celebrate more St. Nick. Christmas trees I saw for the first time in 2009. And no decoration at all. Today it has changed. They do as everyone does now !
ReplyDelete"Christmas isn't today" - that is adorable! I love that answer too, about savoring the innocent wonder of children during the holidays. I've heard the Kevin Costner special is good and very well done, and I hope we can watch it one evening. Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteHi Joyce, thanks for visiting me! I love Christmas and it has been busy so far. It will be calmer after next Tuesday. I can get caught up with my studies. Our church message is on Advent this year and Pastor is lighting a candle each week. It is the first time he has done this, but I have done it for a few years since I started Bible journaling. I have my own set up and I will also bring out my Menorah on Monday. I recorded the Kevin Costner special but will see it later. I am glad to see this on network tv.
