Another full busy week here, and then the weekend was party party party. Let's catch up...
Friday I finally got the tax organizer submitted to our accountant and it felt so good to have that job done. I needed a block of time to finish it up and Friday morning was pretty much the only block of unclaimed time I had all week. From the post office I went directly to the salon for a long overdue, much needed, mani/pedi. It was wonderful.
Friday evening hubs and I went to a St. Patty's Day get together in our neighborhood clubhouse. They called it stews and brews and everyone brought either a soup, bread, salad or dessert.
So many yummy soups with a lot of variety. The organizers brought both small and large containers, so you could have a bowl of one or a flight of several. The room was decorated for St. Patrick's Day and two neighbors set up an Irish Coffee bar which was fun and festive. Hubs and I wore our matching tees but I forgot to snap a picture. Pretty much par for the course here.
We were up early on Saturday to make the trek to Tennessee for still more celebrating the birthday girl, aka my mother-in-law. Last weekend she was at the lake to spend time with all her great grands, but this weekend was all about her own children.
I snapped this picture on our drive over on Saturday morning. This road repair and construction as a result of Helene (a year and a half ago!) has got to be one of the biggest ongoing projects in the country in terms of size, cost, manpower, and plan.
We arrived at my brother-in-law and sister-in-law's home about 2. There was a big Bass tournament happening on the river all weekend long, and we had fun watching the fishermen from their deck.
We had a lovely family dinner Saturday night at a nice restaurant (Foothills Milling for the Tennessee peeps reading here), and it was so good!
My sister-in-law made a fun bingo game and when she called a square everyone told a story about my mother-in-law that fit the topic. Hilarious. Our server heard more than she ever wanted to know too lol.
Sunday morning coffee on the deck before we all headed to church together. Right after the service there was a lovely little reception in the atrium for her many many MANY friends to come have a sweet treat and visit. She's been a member of this church for over 50 years and is very well loved.
Mary (Life In A Small Town) came by the reception too and it was fun to see her there. She and her sibs went to school with hubs and his sibs and we were all glad she stopped by. My mother-in-law loves her whole family and she brought her a sweet hyacinth which was so thoughtful. Did we take a photo or were we slacker bloggers? You decide.
Once the reception ended hubs and I along with one brother and sister-in-law went to a nearby brewery to meet up with some college friends of ours. A great day and always fun to see some of our favorite people who knew us when.
Again, we forgot to snap a picture. Oops. We did have a photographer my sister-in-law knows come take some pictures at the church and a few family shots too, so I'm sure I'll add one to my blog once we get them back.
We hung out at my brother-in-law and sister-in-laws house Sunday evening and will be home by lunchtime today.
Barring crazy weather or crazy traffic of course, both of which are possible.

That sounds like a lovely and full weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun St. Patrick's Day celebration with friends and a sweet weekend with family! That is a great picture of y'all in the group family photo. I hope travels go smoothly today getting back home.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you all had a great time. That pic of your MIL at the restaurant is lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun spring weekend! Ok is there always construction going on in Tennessee? I remember back in 2018/2019 when we went there were cranes everywhere- is that the norm?
ReplyDeleteThis is actually construction on the NC border where Hurricane Helene took out the interstate completely. Washed the highway away so a huge long repair. It's better but still a mess.
DeleteHonestly, the best times are when you keep your phone put away so we will forgive you. What a special time for her to have her adult children together. She looks so good! What a legacy to have so many people that want to celebrate her.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear more about the BINGO game. She had buzz words on each space? I love that!
yes-each square had a word or phrase relating to something about her and we had to tell a story. I can send you a picture...I don't think I have your email.
DeleteWell, what a relational filled weekend. Mother-in-law looks so great! 50 years at the same church is a wonderful accomplishment. We are home and I'm trying to get my brain and body working together again. :) We enjoyed Cambridge especially early in the morning before all those students on bicycles were racing about town! Hope the traffic is kind to you and you are home by noon!
ReplyDeleteGood job with getting your taxes done, it must be a relief! What a great St Patricks Day get together. I do like the sound of the Irish Coffee bar.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to celebrate your Mother in Law twice! The bingo game sounds like fun! What a lovely weekend!
You have celebrated your mom so well!! Safe travels home!
ReplyDeleteGood for you getting the things together for taxes. Mark just did ours. Also, glad you went for a Mani/Pedi. I need one but haven't been able to go with my ankle so I've been doing my toes by myself. Not fun at all! That party looks like it was fun. How nice that you got to celebrate your mother-in-law's birthday. Looks like a very nice celebration. Sounds like a cute game. How nice to have the celebration after church too and how wonderful to see Mary. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteSuch a happy time with family. BTW, I love your MIL's hairstyle. Simple, elegant.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the bingo game. If you have time to blog about it, I would like to copy it for a party for one of our loved ones.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I enjoyed reading all about the fun and love!
Safe travels home!!
The snow has stopped here, but the wind is still strong. 15 inches!!! My friend Lori, lives 2 hours east, her total 25.5 inches.
It sounds like a lovely weekend, and sometimes the moments are better without pulling out the phone/camera!
ReplyDeleteWonderful a lovely time celebrating.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful celebrations for your MIL!! I know she felt the love!! Hope your travels home were safe and smooth!! Thanks for sharing the fun with us!
ReplyDeleteIt was so good to see all of the family; there just wasn't enough time! :) I'm so glad you let me know about the reception. Your MIL is a fabulous person & I love her dearly!
