Welcome to this week's edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. 'Tis the season...
1. Oxford's Word of the Year for 2023 is 'rizz'. Hmmm...before today had you ever heard the word? Do you know what it means? (Apparently it's short for charisma) Have you ever used the word? If you were in charge of the world, what word would you declare word of the year for 2023?2. What's one word you tend to abbreviate in your writing or speech? (as in rizz for charisma)
I think I use fave for favorite on a pretty regular basis.
3. Are you a Hallmark movie watcher this time of year? What's your favorite character from a holiday- themed movie, book, or TV special?
I've seen one or two, but I'm not really into the Hallmark movies. My favorite character from a holiday themed movie, book or TV special? I always liked Cindy Lou Who from the animated version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas. And I love the book (and the family featured in the story) The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson.
5. What's the most stressful part of the holiday season for you?
I try not to let stress play a starring role. I don't enjoy the wrapping, but hubs has been a big help this year so that task is mostly knocked out. Probably the most stressful part of the holidays always is getting everyone where they need to be-traffic, flights, etc. Travel at the holidays is not for the faint of heart.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
My book club met today (Tuesday) and we had a fun little ornament exchange. Everyone brought an ornament that in some way relates to a favorite book, or a book they really enjoyed. Then I read a story filled with the words left/right and whenever I said left or right you passed your gift to the person on that side of you. It was fun. I brought a painted oyster shell representative of one of my favorite books-The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy. I received a beautiful stained glass bird ornament representing The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. We all enjoyed this and will definitely do it again next year.

I enjoy the wrapping but haven't gotten myself motivated to do it just yet.
ReplyDeletePeppermint snowballs look yummy. I love the ornament exchange...I will keep this in the back of my brain so I can remember this next year...so creative!
ReplyDeleteFave for favorite is definitely one I use!
ReplyDeleteThe party and exchange sounds fun. I like the way you shared your gifts. Those cookies look so good. Fave is a good one! I could not come up with a word. OYE. Hope you have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteYour cookies look great! I hope to bake with the grands next week. That is nice that your book club exchanged ornaments. Our lifegroup is meeting today for a Christmas tea and we are exchanging teacups.
ReplyDeleteI love that you are called Nana. My sister is called Nana. I'm grandma. Mark's grandmother was Nana. I haven't really seen the Grinch much. I'll have to check that out. Those peppermint snowballs look yummy. Way to go! I love your random. Sounds like a fun time. Enjoy the rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteThe ornament exchange sounds like so much fun! Your cookies look really good. I made chocolate chip cookies for Thanksgiving, but I don't plan on making any for Christmas. If I make them I eat them and that is not good. lol
ReplyDeleteI’m with you on the Hallmark movies. Just not into them and here I thought I was the only one. Not into wrapping gifts either. My husband has really helped get the house decorated, so I give him all the credit except for Knick knacks on shelves etc. it’s weird because the older I get the less cravings I have for sweets - my rule to the adult kids, if they want sweets they have to bring it themselves. I still do enjoy a good dark chocolate.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try my son's Christmas morning croissants; a tradition he started himself a few years ago and each year he tweaks the recipe a bit. One year we had plain, another year he made jam filled croissants with white chocolate drizzle. This year he's talking about caramel croissants.
ReplyDeleteCan't remember hearing the word Rizz or ever using it
ReplyDeleteI am Nana to my grandchildren have never liked the term Grandma, or Granny to me they sound old and I am not old.
I use fave a lot too. The ornament exchange with the book theme is such a great idea. I can't wait to start some holiday baking!
ReplyDeleteI do love The Best Christmas Pageant Ever! I reread it last year just for fun :-). I participated in an ornament swap this week, too, but yours sounds like such fun!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for the gift exchange!! I miss staff gift exchanges and Secret Santas. Maybe I'll suggest a neighborhood secret Santa for next year! I want to bake 3 or 4 kinds of cookies this year. I didn't bake any last year but am more motivated with a house full of friends for dinner this year! Thanks for yet another fun Hodgepodge, Joyce!! xo
ReplyDeleteI love your themed ornament exchange party! My chorus had an ornament exchange at our holiday party on Monday, and played the same right-left game! So much fun! Happy Holidays to you!
ReplyDeleteThe view of your Christmas cookies brought back memories, my mother was a bad cook but her Christmas cookies and she had a lot of recipes and variations were delicious and all family and friends wanted to have her cookies (which wasn't the case for her meals, lol )
ReplyDeleteWOW. I'm so late to commenting from last week. We were getting ready for vacation and then left Thursday so I've had hardly any time. Those peppermint snowballs look so good and I love that gift exchange idea. I think I'm going to mark this down for next year.
