Welcome to this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Here we go-
1. Thursday is National Walk To A Park Day. I know these celebratory days are mostly made up, but some are fun to think about. Do you live close enough to a park to walk to one on Thursday? Will you? The most famous park in the world is Central Park located in NYC. Have you ever been to Central Park? What did you think? If you haven't been is this a place you'd like to see?I'm about two miles from the nearest park but the road to get there isn't really conducive to walking. We do have walking trails in our neighborhood that run through the woods which feels parklike, but it's not a park.
I can parallel park and most of the time feel very comfortable doing so. You cannot drive in the UK without mastering this particular skill. I don't have to do it often here as I live in the country now, and I feel like parallel parking is more of a city thing. Every now and then in our little downtown area I end up parallel parking.
4. The colors of fall...red, brown, russet, golden bronze, golden yellow, purplish red, light tan, crimson, orange red, and scarlet. Are these colors you like to wear? Is this your season in terms of color? What about your home? Would we see these tones in your home decorating?
Have your ever had your colors done? Remember when that was a thing? People would have home parties and someone would come and do your colors. It was kind of fun to see all the fabric swatches against your skin and figure out which season fit you best. I'm an autumn. More or less.
I love the colors of autumn, my favorites to decorate with for sure. I've always used the deep reds, golds, and russet tones in my home, and I think they also suit me in terms of my wardrobe. Don't tell anyone, but I'm a natural brunette. I have a lot of blonde highlights in my hair now because I feel like I need the lightness around my face, but I'm a blue-eyed brunette and I'm not fair skinned so autumn tones work. They're the colors of nature and they're my favorite.
5. What part of history do you find most interesting? Elaborate.
Wow. This is a toughie. I enjoy reading a lot of history, both actual historical events and also historical fiction. I read a lot of fiction set in WW1 and 2 which is probably my favorite. I love English history, castles and kings and that sort of thing, and I also enjoy reading about the American west and how it was settled and grew. I enjoy Biblical history as well.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
My mother used to buy my girls beautiful Christmas dresses each year. This particular deep green velvet with the soft pink sash was one of my favorites. My girls loved it too. They both wore it around age 2, and it's one of the few I held on to through the years.
The picture is a little blurry because I snapped it from another picture but the original is around here somewhere. Anyway, I pulled the dress out before my trip to the UK and took it to my daughter1.
Her little miss is exactly the right age for it and she is all about a pretty dress.
Like mother, like daughter 💕

You have officially made me feel better about saving numerous amounts of my kids´ and in particular my girls´ clothes- for a chance like the picture that you have of your granddaughter in the dress that was your daughter´s. Love it! It must seem gloriously full circle to see your granddaughter in a dress her great grandma bought for her granddaughter. So many daughters and blessings symbolized in that transfer! Thanks for the link up and have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI walk to our closest park quite often; we are just minutes away from a state park and used to meet up with friends to go swimming there in the summer (or maybe more like acquittances; people we wanted to have fun with but I didn't feel like I knew well enough to invite over to our house). We have plans to go hiking tomorrow but not there. I don't have much in the way of autumn colors in the house other than my fall decorations since I tend to lean more towards blues and greens for decorating. But I have been wearing lots and lots of burgundy this fall. That dress you brought over for your granddaughter is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet seeing your granddaughter in the dress your daughter wore! It was fun to read y'all lived outside NYC for a few years. The park really is a fun place to wander. Thanks for hosting today!
ReplyDeleteLove the Central Park pictures!
ReplyDeleteHello Joyce, oh my, that dress and the memories that go along with it, made my heart swell, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI did have my colors done, but I was only in 7th grade at the time, and I do not remember what the result was.
Your little miss in that dress brought tears to my eyes! So special to have that to pass along. Beautiful. Thanks for another fun Hodgepodge, and for your prayers as we here in FL get through the next 24 hours. xo
ReplyDeleteThat dress is soooo pretty and your granddaughter is precious!
ReplyDeleteAs for having our colors done, I'm a Winter, for sure (a graying brunette with brown eyes). When I wear colors outside of the Winter palette, I definitely do not look my best. Been observing that since the mid-80's (although when I'm riding my bike I stray from that to wear orange or that chartreuse yellow so I'm more visible. But neither of those colors do my skin tone any favors).
How beautiful, your girl's timeless dress now passed to her own little! I never had my colors done, but would jump at the chance to attend a like-kind party. Who knows, maybe that will come around again someday.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful park and I feel so blessed to have been able to spend time there. Our hotel room looked right over Central Park. Dogs are the best. I miss all of ours and praying to get another dog at some point. I hate packing. I'm terrible at it. At least going to Houston for 2 nights was an easier one. I'm glad you like those colors. I think it is important to highlight our hair. I like that you are a history buff. Little Miss in that dress is absolutely precious. I love it!
ReplyDeleteAhh...What fun to be able to see your sweet grandgirlie in your daughter's dress from many years ago. Sweet! I do remember those color parties and I just found my little fold up color palette thingee. I'm pretty sure I'm a winter. How nice to be able to enjoy Central park as a local and not a tourist. I am finally back to my sleep patterns from before our trip to Scotland. Sheesh! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteYour granddaughter is so adorable and she looks so good in that dress! I read a lot of historical fiction too. Enjoyed your photos of Central Park. Thanks for the Hodgepodge, Joyce. Hope you have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThe timeless Dress!!!! Oh My!! I kept a few of my daughters' dresses that were special to me, BUT I have 5 grandsons!!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of Central park with your dog. Don't dogs bring back specific memories? It seems like each era of my life is represented by a different pet. What a sweet dress for your granddaughter. I hope I'll be able to pull that kind of thing out of storage someday. My mother made Grace some beautiful smocked dresses. Thanks for the fun link up!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos, I like that oh so pretty dress, some damn good answers here
ReplyDeleteHow special to have that dress for her to wear! She's getting big!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy a lot of historical fiction books.
Great pics of Central Park and your granddaughter is sooooo cute in that lovely dress.
ReplyDeleteI loved hearing about where all you've lived! Sometimes I think it would be so much fun to live in a bustling city. I kind of dream of that someday, honestly. I love that picture of your grand in your daughter's dress! How special that must have been for you!
ReplyDeleteLove your photos of Central Park. It really is quite impressive to have such a huge green space in the middle of the city. I feel better knowing I'm not the only one to have trouble thinking of something that was a 'walk in the park'! Your little granddaughter is adorable! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThat is nice that you got to see so much of Central Park. We were just in NY to take a New England cruise. You girls are granddaughter look so cute! My daughter and granddaughter both wore my baby dress. I will pass it on to my granddaughter that wore it. Have a great rest of the week!
