Welcome to this week's edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you so the hop keeps hopping. Here we go-
- Sherwin Williams-universal khaki (inspired by heavy canvas and outdoor gear)
- Behr-hidden gem (a confident shade of teal)
- Valspar-warm eucylyptus (a warm sliver tinted green)
- Dutch Boy-melodious ivory (a honey tinted beige)
- Glidden-warm mahogany (a classic brick red)
- Krylon-matte coffee bean
- Clark and Kensington -Hazelnut Crunch (warm reddish-brown)
- Graham and Brown-Divine Damson (cherry red with a subtle violet undertone)
- Dunn and Edwards-midnight garden (the green that works everywhere)
First question-did you know there were so many different paint manufacturers?
I'd heard of more than half of these companies, but two or three were new to me.
Which color on the list most appeals to you in terms of your own decorating style?
The walls in my house are mostly a soft neutral-Sherwin Williams Canvas Tan. It's very livable and we still like the color. We have a lot of windows and you see the lake out of most of them so we purposely chose a wall color that wouldn't compete with Mother Nature. The Universal Khaki is a little darker, but similar so maybe that one. I like the matte coffee bean too in terms of a neutral.
I love dark dramatic paint but it doesn't feel right in this house.
Do you have plans to do any painting in your home in the coming year, and if so might you choose a color from this list?
We need to repaint some rooms more than others, but one room moves in to another then another and before you know it everything has to be painted or it looks funny. Maybe in the coming year. Maybe. Hubs says the exterior needs painting too and this would all be a huge project so we'll see. I see it as a two year project-interior one year, exterior the next. Hubs probably sees it more as a two-week project because once he gets hold of a home improvement project he's like a dog with a bone. I'm still recovering from the backyard re-do.
Now, forget painting walls, which color name appeals to you most?
Do the same people who come up with nail polish names also weigh in on paint. It seems so. I like the sound of warm eucalyptus.
3. What's something in your life you have to do-watch-or participate in that's about as exciting as 'watching paint dry'?
Taxes and insurance. Either and both.
4 . Tuesday, October 14th is/was National Dessert day...did you/will you celebrate? Tell us how? What's your absolute favorite dessert. Yes, just one. I know!!
I'm answering these questions on Tuesday morning and probably won't celebrate because I have book club Tuesday afternoon and play Mah Jong Tuesday evening. I did have dessert on Monday night at our wine club dinner...a very light cheesecake with a strawberry topping. It was yummy!
I have a sweet tooth so choosing just one favorite is hard. I'm going with crème brûlée.
We make it at home occasionally for dinner guests, and if I'm dining out and see it's on the menu I'll be ordering.
5. Perhaps today is the day I will __________________________________.
Organize that out of control cabinet in my laundry room. Except probably not because both my Tuesday and my Wednesday are already pretty full. The question did say 'perhaps'. If it doesn't happen Wednesday it's on my calendar for Friday so it will happen this week.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Are you familiar with something called a Day In The Life post? I've wanted to try one and I invite you to try it too. In a nutshell, you chronicle your thoughts, activities, and experiences throughout a single day. Any day. Nothing big needs to be happening, just everyday ordinary life from the time you get up in the morning until you go to bed.
Most of the bloggers I've seen do this take a picture every hour or two and then add some words to go with. They're fun to read and you really see how, although our lives are our own, there is much we have in common. I'll be setting an alarm to remember to snap pictures on the day I choose, because that's usually my downfall.
I'm going to host a link up for anyone who wants to play along on Thursday, November 13th, which is almost a month away. You can pick any day between now and then to blog about, then come back here and share your post on the 13th. See you there!
And also here because like I said, it's a month away.
I love Day in the Life posts! I have one scheduled for next Monday already-- I thought I might do a weekend version since I tend to do a weekday most often.
ReplyDeleteThat´s fun about a DiTL post! I´ve not done one in a long time but they´re one of my favorites to go back and read because it´s so easy to forget what a certain phase of life looked like with kids of various ages/stages/in or out of the house, etc. I´m not 100% sure I´ve ever had creme brulee. Honestly, it doesn´t look or sound appealing to me. I can´t imagine that I wouldn´t like it but I am also quite certain I´d never choose it over other options. So perhaps I´ll never know of its goodness :). Have a great day and thanks as ever for the questions...
ReplyDeleteI’m a bit like your husband when it comes to projects. Once I get something on my mind, I usually make it happen sooner rather than later, and it’s usually a quick affair. Ain’t nobody got time to be sitting around waiting.
ReplyDeleteTom has painting contacts with being in commercial construction so we can get it hired out and done so much faster than if we drug it out ourselves. Plus, I suck and Tom hates it. Most home stuff we do ourselves, but painting is not one of them!
ReplyDeleteI already have a DITL post started where I was also going to add thoughts on my new retired life and my first retired fall! Great idea!
We will definitely hire painters. It's more the cost for what the size of the job will be that I find daunting : )
DeleteNot participating today - sometimes I have to choose between "creating" for my job or "creating" for my blog - I really can't do both. BUT I've been through and read most and enjoy these so much for the conversation starters they make. I've often used your prompts at dinnertime with friends/family so THANK YOU.
ReplyDeleteCreme Brulee - yes!!! Although I will often choose chocolate first.
Painting - UGH. I don't mind painting but my husband hates it (and hates hiring it out MORE) so we have a lot of 1/2-done projects around. Like, the kitchen and bathroom are done, but the LR and DR are not, although all connected. The color is similar enough that people don't notice but I do! When we were younger we would just buckle down and get it done in a weekend. . .now, well, we don't make house projects a priority.
I LOVE Day in the Life posts, both for myself and reading about how others' spend their days. It's fun to see how things change AND how they stay the same over the years. I'll definitely participate - thanks for the heads' up!
I just found this from 2017 - I started it with the "why" - Time is screaming by and I want to remember the little things that make us, us.
The Fall Festival sounds like a great event with the 5 different stages.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of dark, dramatic paint too but it wouldn't work in here as our house isn't the brightest. You are right, the paint colours do sound like nail polish names. lol
Ohh! I might join in with the Day in The Life post, I always mean to do one and by the time I remember half the day has gone!
Love the day in the life idea- I will definitely join in with you Joyce! You are so right on the warm eucalyptus and I think the nail companies should definitely weigh in- I think I would love that color on the walls AND on my nails :)
ReplyDeleteI have marked that day to link up on the Day in the Life. Great idea! That is fun you will get to see one of your favorites perform in December. Allowing paint colors not to interfere with your beautiful views of nature is so smart. Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteI sure do miss my hub when it comes to insurance; he was a pro since he owned his own insurance agency. People think/assume I know about insurance because of hub, but I am a ball lost in high weeds. Interested in a Day in the Life Post.
ReplyDeleteThat day in the life thing seems really cool; I'm going to make a note about it. And yes, tickets to shows are way too expensive! I was talking to a friend last week and he's seen two bands I love this year alone, but they cost way too much. The last time I saw one of them - granted, was 2019 - I paid 26 dollars. Now tickets are close to 200!
ReplyDeleteOne of my blogging friends always does the first day of the month for her "day in my life" post. It is a fun thing to do!! I always enjoy hers. And I enjoy your Hodgepodges!! Thanks for the fun Wednesdays, Joyce! xo
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to see the live music. You two really do things to make your life special. Your painting sounds like a huge project. Good luck with that. Good answer for #3. Mark does all of that. Yum on your dessert. You sure do keep busy. I love that. That an interesting challenge for your random thought. Enjoy the rest of our week.
ReplyDeleteHa... I had to laugh about your husband, "once he gets hold of a home improvement project he's like a dog with a bone." I'm like him, I want to get er done! Usually something happens a hiccup here and there and we fall behind with the project. Last year we built new gardens. I was a dog with a bone, Hee Hee ... we got it done before the winter weather set in. I was so happy!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I like the day in a month link up. Sounds fun and a fun read into the regular day of our blog friends.
ReplyDeleteYou have some fun weekly/monthly events in your lives. The 'day in the life' idea is intriguing. Now I'll need to make sure I don't forget! My old brain is full with a trip to the other side of the mountains on Thursday and then up to Canada. Enjoy the rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteMy scrapbooking friend and I do a Day in the Life project at least once a year. Like you, we set an alarm to remember to snap a photo and then journal the details. We include one hour of the day to do a quick video call to update each other. It's a lot of fun. We're both Ali Edwards aficionados and she has Day in the Life and Week in the Life materials and corresponding blog posts. They are interesting to read - www.aliedwards.com.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the blog post and look forward to linking up on November 13th. I am so sorry you mentioned cleaning out that cabinet. I have been putting off the complete revamping of my large pantry. I am an organizer; however, once something gets out of my control, I cease all urges to organize. That is the pantry - out of control. As the renowned Southern lady, Scarlett once said, "I'll think about that tomorrow." By the way, my cleaning lady told me today that because I am such a good housekeeper, there is no need for her to clean more than once a month. I feel redeemed!
