Friday Faves

Here are five things I'm loving in this new year-


1. Eating lighter.  Who's with me? We've had so many heavy meals these past three months (yes the holiday-ing seems to start in October for some reason) and it's been nice to change it up here.   

Last night I made this yummy salad-arugala, tomato, cucumber, toasted pine nuts, a sprinkle of parm, and a light lemon vinaigrette topped with some chicken tenders browned and finished off in the oven with a little chicken broth and capers. 

2. This juice, Uncle Matt's Ultimate Immune made with orange juice, elderberry, zinc and more-

I had a glass at my neighbor's house on New Year's Eve and liked it so much I bought some on my next trip to the grocery. It's not inexpensive, but it is delicious and not overly sweet. Plus it's pretty. Elderberry is particularly good for you this time of year as it helps boost immunity and reduces cold and flu symptoms, among other things. 

I bought mine at Publix but it's available at Wal Mart, Amazon, and other shops too. 

3. Signs of spring. It's never too early, right? 


Actually I think it might be too early in some parts of the country, and we'll likely have some cold weather here before the calendar makes it official. These daffs are hardy and can handle the kind of winter weather we get in The Palmetto State.  

4. Moving-

Not house. Definitely not that! I mean moving me. 

Hubs and I have had some nice walks in this new year and I hope we keep it up. I still wear my ankle brace and that seems to help with the lingering off and on pain that has no medical explanation. We haven't done any extreme hills, unless you count my neighborhood walking trail (which I do), but mostly we're steering clear of trails marked strenuous. 


This is the flat part of our neighborhood walking trail. It's literally a short straight up and/or straight down bit to get here, but it feels good to move and I'm hoping more walking will actually help as opposed to hurt. 

5. Day dates. 

Still counting my 52 dates in 52 weeks we started back in the fall, and think it's going to end up being more like 52 in 60 or something like that which is fine. We were away over the holidays and spent time with family so missed a week and we had company here one week so missed another and I'm sure there will be one or two more misses before we get to 52. 

But we'll get there. Lots will involve hikes because we enjoy that. We love to be outside, and hiking is a quiet activity that allows for conversation and deep thinking. Hubs says I don't need a reason to think deeply, but he humors me. 

Episode lucky 13 was a hike through some beautiful woods and around a small local lake with fabulous views of Table Rock. 

70 degrees on January 7th.

 I'll take it!

  1. That salad looks so good. It has been cold here for So CA. 42 at night and 61 for the day on Friday. You are blessed to have so much beautiful nature around you. I have to make sure my face is covered when I am in the sun. So I ordered a nice hat and plan to walk more too. Reading your post gave me some inspiration!

  2. Good for you, your doggy, and your relationship for getting out so much! That light meal looks so good! I know that I overcomplicate dinner too often! I am craving chicken schwarma so I am going to try to do that this weekend.

  3. I had salad two nights ago. Publix has them bagged and everything is included, which I love. I forget the name of the salad, but it had cubes of ginger in it and it was delicious. I am enjoying my morning walks with my neighbors. Only two of us went today, but that's okay. There are usually four of us, and our community is nice and flat. I have been taking Elderberry gummies since before Covid, and I've added a Probiotic gummy to my morning "dessert" too. Elderberry is great for fighting off infections. Enjoy your weekend!! xo

  4. Fun post- you´ve listed a nice assortment of favorites. I just may try that juice. I´m not a big juice drinker as I generally like to eat my calories and not drink them... but I´m open to drinking something with cals if it´s fairly good for me. Your hikes look so pretty and your weather is amazing. We´re sitting at a nice 62 right now so I´m not gonna complain! Love walks and hikes and conversations that can be nonexistent for part of the time, deep, or silly :). Have a great weekend!

  5. Ohh yes, we have been eating lighter too, not quite salads but we're getting there. That juice sounds great and full of good things. How wonderful to see signs of spring already!

  7. Seeing you in T-shirts, as I just got in from shoveling snow, did make me smile.
    We love to be outside too. We are brave here in Wisconsin and get out in the weather. I have found that if I am dressed for the weather, I am just fine. My husband and I both just purchased new thermal long underwear, they are so nice.

  8. A great 5! Yes, we are enjoying eating lighter. I am moving more, too, but I have to do that in a chair. I still don't want to overstress my feet. The chair exercises have been a good alternative. It is good to be intentional about your weekly dates. Love the signs of Spring!

  9. I have been drinking an antioxidant juice for some time. I'm not sure how much I'm accomplishing with it, but it makes me feel good to think I'm at least trying. I do get a bit envious when I read about your day trips, because those come easy for us in our location; however, I do plan to make an effort to find interesting things close at hand. We enjoyed every minute and curve in North GA and TN.
