Roaring In To The Hodgepodge

Welcome to March and to the weekly Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger there before you. Here we go...

From this Side of the Pond
1.  As the saying goes, 'March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.' Did your March come in roaring or like some other animal? Every month carries with it certain feelings, which is why some people love and anticipate December and others dread it. How do you feel about the month of March?

Sunday (March 1st) was a spectacular day weather wise, much more lamb than lion. I don't think we'll have any more true wintry weather here and that is a-ok with me.

Next up-pollen season. And yes, it's a whole thing.

How do I feel about March? It's long. And the pollen will begin to fall (I've already seen some on the deck) which is not my favorite. I would love a getaway somewhere warm and sunny in the month of March, but that's not happening this year.

2. Where in your life are you a lion? Where are you a lamb?

I think of being a lion as boldness, fearlessly defending family and beliefs,  chasing dreams and opportunities with focus and passion...that sort of thing. A lamb to me signifies gentleness, vulnerability, kindness.

So where am I a lion?  Standing firm in my faith.

A lamb? Interacting with my children and grandchildren.

3. The Hodgepodge lands on National Pound Cake day. Do you like pound cake? If so do you have a favorite flavor?

I love pound cake, one of my favorites actually. I especially love a sour cream pound cake or my mama's chocolate pound cake.  She used to make one every December and even though we had approximately eight million cookies to choose from I still looked forward to that cake.

Let's play this or that-

  • pound cake or layer cake? pound cake
  • pound cake or cheesecake? pound cake
  • pound cake or angel food cake? hmmm... a tough one but I'm going with pound cake
  • pound cake or brownie? brownie
  • pound cake or pie? another almost impossible choice,  but I love pie so would probably choose that over pound cake

4. What makes you feel childlike wonder right now?

The sky...daytime and nighttime, sunshine and clouds, sunrise and sunset. I'm in awe of it all.

5. What's one thing you need to add to your wardrobe to get ready for spring? If you're in the southern hemisphere, then answer for fall?

I need a few things for spring. Some of the items on my list are-a new white sweater, a great pair of jeans,  a dress, shoes to wear with jeans, and some cute tops.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Today's first question reminded me I had a picture of my hubs with a lion from a work trip he took to South Africa a few years ago-

If this is the kind of lion the saying is referring to, then maybe our March did come in that way?

  1. I'm jealous of your March 1st! Our weather was terrible and has been ever since :(. I have had pound cake so few times in my life it was hard to remember what it even tasted like!! Nice picture of your husband and the lion. Have a great day!

  2. No more wintry weather is good for me too. I am not ready for the heat, but no more snow/ice please :). I have a dear friend who is about 20 years older than I am who made the best pound cakes. My daughters loved it when she would give them one as a birthday gift. Thank you for hosting today and enjoy!

  3. We had a nice weather day on Sunday too. I never thought about pollen season, ugh! That is no fun at all.
I didn't have a high opinion of pound cake but I think I need to try some different flavours. The sour cream one sounds interesting.
Those photos of your husband with the lion are cool!

  4. Pollen season has arrived in Alabama, too. It is a beautiful time of year BUT the pollen almost kills me. Petting a lion - even a tiny one - is so cool!!

  5. I loved all of your answers! Oh my...I am dreading pollen season. I hadn't thought of it until today, but yikes! It's always so bad here in Memphis. Last year we made the news, it was so bad! I love that picture of your husband with the lion! I have a picture of my twins with an anesthetized lion at the local zoo...their dad had to go there for a job one day and took them with him. The lion was having its teeth cleaned, so they had him sedated for the procedure. He took a picture of them with it on the table, and it's surreal! Somewhere I have an old picture of me in Nevada with the MGM lion...I hadn't thought of that in years, either! Thanks for always giving us such great prompts each week!

  6. Maybe I need to re-think the pound cake! I do know that sour cream makes a cake super moist. I love a bundt pan - can you do a pound cake in a bundt pan?
I don't know if you are an Amazon clothes shopper, but the Amazon Essentials sweaters have been great. Also, these jeans are pretty great: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CZDKH9KD?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1&psc=1

  10. March came in like a lamb, but we are certain to have more winter. March and April are our snowiest months. It seems so unfair!

  11. Like me, that was a lot of choices for pound cake! Must be a Carolina thing:) I love those photos of your hubby. Quite the experience. And I do wish I could say I was more of a lion (bold) with sharing my faith. Good encouragement. Thanks for the link-up!!

  12. I think it's so neat to see that those that love pound cake have such wonderful family memories associated with them. I don't think I ever saw pound cake at any family function growing up.

  13. The pictures are so cute. I really don't object to a roaring lion storm and am looking forward to the possibility of one tonight and definitely on Friday. It is only a matter of time here also before there is a yellow coating on every outdoor surface. That is the downside of a southern spring for sure.

  14. I LOVE those pictures of your hubs petting the lion! I want to do that!! I know I can't, but when I see the big cats, I just want to hug them! Thanks for another fun Hodgepodge!! I've never had chocolate pound cake... need to find a recipe!! Blessings!! xo

  17. Sour cream poundcake??? I think I need to find some of that!! I'm sure winter round 3 (or is it 4?) will come visit us yet ...

  18. Those are amazing pictures of your husband with the lion! I think the answer to the pound cake question is all about what you grew up with. I didn't grow up eating pound cake and don't really care for it. My husband did and loves it. I'm ready for warm weather too. After some very cold days this winter, I'm promising myself not to complain about the heat this summer! Thanks for the fun link up!

  19. We wrote a bit in our last post about the lion and lamb weather we experience in March. It was always a great time of year to teach weather in kindergarten and we'd graph whether the day was a lion or lamb day. We shall see what the month ahead brings! Your lamb weather on the lake look beautiful and very inviting! And, now you have e hungry for pound cake!
