Two birthdays and Halloween within the span of seven days means lots of words on the blog this week. Today my middle grandson turns seven years old and the middle must have a letter from Nana on his birthday. Here we go-
Dear Max,
Max is not your real name of course but it is your blog name. Someday you'll understand. You didn't immediately have a blog name when you first made an appearance on my blog, mostly because you were living more than 7,000 miles away on the other side of the world and I wasn't sure what fit.
You were an easy low key baby and we used to call you Chill. Not gonna lie, we kind of smile at that now. On your first birthday your mama sent me a photograph of you, and when I saw the sparkle in your eye and the mischievous grin on your face I thought of Where The Wild Things Are and the little boy in that story. Thus in this space you were dubbed Max.
We don't use the word chill so much to describe you anymore lol. You are a strong, athletic, handsome, brilliant boy and your Nana loves you so much.
Goodness you're smart. You're able to catch emotional undertones and dry humor with ease, and sometimes I forget how old you are. You're perceptive and quick-witted and full of curiosity.
Sports are your jam and you love them all. You have your favorite teams of course, Clemson football and Atlanta Braves baseball, but if there's a game on you'll pick a team and root for that team and care about the outcome, and make commentary like you've been watching that team play all your life. You know stats and remember which player struck out in the second inning of game three in last year's playoffs and it's all pretty remarkable.
You've developed a real love of reading this year and that's one of my favorite things. Sometimes when I come over you're on the couch engrossed in a book and that site makes me so happy.
You love riding your bike, playing catch with your dad, the water, putting together Lego creations with your big brother, being a big brother yourself, Asian dumplings, a big pot of steamed mussels, and winning at games.
Solidarity on that last one little man. Nana gets it.
I love watching God's plan for your life unfold. Stay close to Him always and know you are loved with an everlasting love by the One who made you. And by your Nana too.
Here comes a brand new year...
May it be full of new experiences, new words, new wonders.
And may it sparkle just as brightly as you do.
