In Sync With The Hodgepodge

Welcome to another edition of the Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post, then go say howdy to your neighbor there. Thanks for playing along each week!
1.  In a rut, in a jam, in the groove, out of sync, off balance, out of touch...which saying best fits some area of your life currently (or recently)? Explain.

Well I think we all know I was physically off balance back in August of this year, so that fits. My ribs took a good three months to heal completely and I hope I never experience that sort of injury again.

More than off balance though I feel out of sync. We were away for a large chunk of October and then hit the ground running upon our return. Still trying to catch my breath, and seem to be always a step or two behind where I need to be.

2. What is it about somebody else's style of work (coworker/employee/shared volunteer project/household chore) that makes you crazy? Why?

habitual lateness, laziness, being unprepared on a regular basis

3. What's a tradition that always makes you feel at home?

I think partly why I love Thanksgiving is because at the core it's celebrated in a very similar way all across America. Family and/or friends gathering, shared cooking, turkey and dressing, pie, parades and naps...this is Thanksgiving. Yes I know that's not 100% across the board true, but in general we celebrate this day counting our blessings and eating a little more than we should.

I've eaten Thanksgiving in a country not my own and the smell of turkey roasting and the sound of my girls chatter in the kitchen as friends from various parts of the globe gathered round all said home to me.

'Forever on Thanksgiving Day
The heart will find the pathway home.'
~Wilbur D. Nesbit

4. A favorite song with a girl's name in the title or lyrics? Any reason why this is a particular favorite?

Just one??? There are so many I love... Georgia (Boz Scaggs), Aimee (Pure Prairie League), Amanda (Boston) Rhiannon (Fleetwood Mac), Aubrey (Bread), Annie's Song (John Denver), Sweet Caroline (Neil Diamond)...

I'm going with this one though because I've always loved the name. ahem. This song was written about a big Irish Setter (cue the waterworks).

Shannon by Henry Gross-

5. Share a favorite quote, verse, or saying relating to gratitude or thanksgiving.

'Come thou fount of ev'ry blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise...'
~Come Thou Fount by Robert Robertson

6. Insert your own random thought here.

So much to love about this time of year-

  1. Hi Joyce... looks like the Hodgepodgers are still sleeping. This is the first time that I have been in the first 5 links. Love your last pic. Enjoy your week.

  2. Joyce,

I think as we get older, we all find ourselves getting off-balanced easier than we used to. Sometimes it results in injury. I hope you don't have any more mishaps. I've been blessed, knock on wood, to not fall victim to these sorts of accidents but I know many my age who have broken bones in the past couple of years. That seems a bit alarming to me, too. Oh yeah, laziness is a sore spot with me, too. I didn't think of that. Your traditions made me feel all homey and cozy. I think most Americans can relate to these sentiments or others who celebrate similar holidays. The scents and sounds accompanying Thanksgiving (Christmas, too) fills the heart with a warm ambiance year after year. There's nothing like memories created and spent with those you love. "Shannon" is a beautiful song. I forget about until someone reminds me like you did this morning, so it was a joy to listen to it as a rush of sentimentally washed over me. Gosh, I can't believe that song is 40+ years old! Love the photo o f your fall colors. We had a nice show of colors to pop up finally over the weekend. It actually surprised us and we felt certain we wouldn't see anything, except the leaves turning brown and then fall off but the rain we've had must have been a huge help. This late display is a bit unusual. Thanks for hosting the mid-week fun. Please, feel free to link up with my not-so WW! ;)

  3. Love your Thanksgiving thoughts <3
I am joining you on the "out of synch" bandwagon. Here's to a better week, or month!

  4. I feel as though I've let the lack of fall temps rob me of my autumnal joys. I've really got to stop that. My dad lives on Lake Norman and I love seeing their fall changes when I can get up that way. I hope you never have another injury like the ribs either. If there's one thing I truly hate it's falling. I've fallen on the same knee the last three times I've tumbled and now I can feel weather changes in that thing. That might not be good. LOL Will you have your little guy for Thanksgiving? I'm supposed to have everyone here except NashvilleDaughter and DrummerBoy who will be with his parents. I was thinking perhaps one of the other girls should step up and host at their house but they say it's not the same as coming home. Sometimes, traditions bite us. Ha! Have a wonderful day!

  6. I find Fall to be a very "at home" kind of season. Thanks for coming up with the questions that make us think. Talk about out of sync...I can't believe I'm typing this at 5:30am! That time change really messes with my clock. Have a great rest of the week!

  7. Your right about Thanksgiving, great answer! After not being able to do much for almost a year I am now just starting to feel like I'm getting my life back. It's a good feeling. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week and of course your view is lovely.

  8. (Not sure my comment went through. Please delete the one, it you got two.)

I love your Hodgepodge and decided to join in the fun.
Thanksgiving is celebrated in June, down south, that's when we have fall here too. But I love seeing everyone's colorful fall fotos from up north. The seasons are much more pronounced in the north and that's one thing I miss very much. That is also one thing that would make me feel at home....the have a real fall.

  9. Ribs take forever to heal. I've had that experience and it's nasty. Rand Paul can also empathize. :-(. I love the song Georgia. Don't know why I didn't think of it. Now I'll hear it in my head all day, and that's not a bad thing. :-)

  10. I enjoyed what you wrote in your answer for #3.
I also will agree with #2!! I have had to deal with all three at once.

    Have a blessed Thanksgiving,
    Carla

  12. I enjoyed reading your answers, Joyce. It is always fun to compare answers across all the Hodgepodgers. Most of the time we all think alike. Interesting!

  13. You win the "song" question. I reached way back to the 1960's for my songs. I love all of your selections. I think your answer of Thanksgiving is spot on. SWMBO and I also celebrated Thanksgiving in Great Britain with our English friends when I was stationed there from 1974 thru 1976. That was a special time. I am glad your ribs are healed. All the best for the rest of your week and thanks again for the Wednesday Hodgepodge. SWMBO sends her regards and thanks for your kind words and prayers.
