A Love-ly Hodgepodge

Love is in the air in this week's edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions, add your link at the end of my post, then leave a love-ly comment for the blogger before you. Here we go-

From this Side of the Pond
1. Did you watch the Super Bowl? Did your team win? What's your favorite game day snack for  whatever sport is happening?

I did watch the Super Bowl. Truthfully I slept through a fair chunk of the third quarter, but was really happy with the win. I grew up just across the bridge from Philly and the Eagles are my team. Hubs grilled wings and brats for dinner before the game and they were so good. My favorite game day snack would probably be nachos, which were not on the menu but are still my fave.

2. What's your 'superpower'?

Napping? Loading the dishwasher?

3. Will you do anything special on Valentine's Day? If so do share. Any thoughts on/about this particular holiday? Share a favorite verse or quote relating to love.

Daughter1 is in a wedding Valentine's Day weekend, one that requires travel, so we'll be home manning the fort. And by fort I mean the grands. We were invited to the wedding as the bride is a college friend of my daughter's, a sorority sister, and she was also her roommate in DC after college so we know and love her.

We decided to let the 'kids' have a weekend away and just enjoy their time together without us tagging along too. Also, we're tired and not up for another road trip at the moment. I'm sure staying home with the grands won't be tiring at all.

A favorite verse-'For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.' Romans 8:38-39

4. Are you a fan of the rom-com genre? If so what's one of your favorites? If you're not a movie go-er then what about a book you love that features a great love story? How about a favorite love song?

I like a rom-com now and then, but prefer legal thrillers, mysteries, or drama more. My favorite rom-coms are Sweet Home Alabama and When Harry Met Sally. There are probably others, but those two popped in to my head first.

Books-The Thorn Birds would be one of my favorite love stories.

Love Song-well there's no way I could pick just one. A few favorites are-More Today Than Yesterday by Spiral Staircase, Love Will Keep Us Alive by The Eagles, Everything by Michael Buble, How Deep Is Your Love by The Bee Gees, and for me and the hubs especially I Love You by Climax Blues Band.

5. Let's get creative...write an acrostic using the word L-O-V-E.

L-love is lots of things, including patient and kind

O-it offends not

V-values the other more than oneself

E-and endures all things

6. Insert your own random thought here.

We had our wine club dinner Tuesday evening and it was as usual delish. One of the courses was filet tartare with tomato short rib stock, soy cured egg yolk and pickled vegetables. Have you ever tried tartare, and if so what did you think?

When we lived in North Jersey hubs and I used to go in to the city and we would sometimes go to Sardis and order their tartar. It was served on a fancy platter with all kinds of garnishes and was so good.

While I neglected to snap a photo of the tartare I did manage a picture of dessert. Priorities, right? Dessert was a hazelnut crunch bar with nutella drizzle and whipped cream. Yum!

Thanks for joining in today...happy Wednesday and happy heart day!

  1. I wasn't 100% sure what tartare was so I looked it up. It looks like it's raw ground beef? That's a no on having it and a pass from me in the future on it!! Now that dessert, that's a YES!! Looks very good. Grilled wings and brats for the game sounds good as well. I hope you're resting up well for the weekend :). I'm sure it will be a blast, though, yes, probably tiring!! Thanks for the link up.

  3. I love nachos…such a good game day snack. Sweet Home Alabama- I just mentioned that movie to my daughter who’s never seen it. Maybe I can watch it with her this weekend :)

  4. I just can't bring myself to eat tartare. I just shivered thinking about it haha! We definitely watch more thrillers, mysteries, etc. than rom coms.

  6. I laughed at the comment of the grankids won't be tiring for the weekend! It is so great you are able to give your daughters a break and I'm sure the grankids would rather be at your house than a wedding! I loved your answers and thanks for hosting!

  7. Haha, you won't be tired at all after a weekend with the grands. That is so nice that daughter and her hubby will be kid free for the wedding, though. Your dessert looks amazing. Yum. Incredible promise in the verse you shared. Happy day to you!

  8. Good music picks! We re-watched When Harry Met Sally for the first time in a while and to be honest, I wasn't that fond of it. I know that sounds like sacrilege but it just didn't hit me.

  9. I have never eaten tartare. Sweet Home Alabama, I should have mentioned that one, too. Enjoy the weekend with the grands!

  11. Oh I’d much rather see that luscious desert. That would be very hard to resist.
Gosh I had forgotten about the Thorn Birds. Good movie too.

I’m always comforted when I hear Romans 8:38-39. Just so beautiful and loving!!
God bless you Janice. Have a wonderful week

  12. Glad your team won and it sounds like some good food too. I wish I could nap. Good for you on loading the dishwasher. That is nice that they will be able to go to the wedding and have a nice time. Sweet of you to watch the kids. Enjoy! Beautiful verse you shared. Yes, those are two cute movies. I haven't watched Sweet Home Alabama in a long time. I like your list of songs. Those are good ones for sure. I'm not good at an acrostic. Your wine club always sounds so wonderful. I don't believe I've had tartare. Continue to enjoy your grandchildren.

  13. Hmm I like my steak rare but it definitely has to be slightly cooked and beef mince needs to be really cooked. But that dessert - looks perfect. Yes please.

  14. Hi Joyce, I was not able to join in today... but I am visiting. :-)
    I love nachos too.
Enjoy your time with the grands... FUN!!! Any Valentine crafting planned with them?
I use to make Valentine cut out cookies with our boys. We would give some to our neighbors.
    Love, Carla

  15. Dessert is always of the highest priority.. lol.
We celebrate our birthdays pretty close to V-Day so it gets less importance.
Sweet Home Alabama is a fav. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and While You Were Sleeping are a few of my favs. I don't watch too many rom coms anymore.. They just don't make them like they used to.

  16. I think I might change my superpower to napping I'm an expert at that! How lovely of you to look after the grands this weekend, I hope you have a lovely time.
    That dessert looks heavenly.

  17. I don't even eat COOKED beef (aka animal Fat) let along RAW. Nope....not going in this body!! that dessert on the other hand....oh my! YUM!
Nachos are so good. I didn't make any this year.
Personally, I much prefer a good drama or mystery but when watching movies with hubby i'd be forced to watch a Marvel or Star Wars something so we choose Rom Com as we can agree on those.
Enjoyed your answers and have fun with the grandchildren!

  19. I don't usually like to say what my plans for anything in the future might be, leaving myself open to change my mind (or if circumstances necessitate a change); but we do have something we may do. I'll blog about it.

In the meantime, that dessert you had with your wine friends looks wonderful. And some of my fav rom-coms are While You Were Sleeping, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail....

  21. Hope you are taking your vitamins. A weekend with my grands has never been restful or an anecdote to being tired. Fun, though, YES!!
Love your favorite love songs. I Love You is a long-time fave that I forget until I hear it again. And Harry Met Sally is so so good.

  25. I don't imagine holding down the fort with the grands will be restful or quiet, but it sounds like glorious fun. Hope you're having a wonderful time! I've never had tartare and I don't think I would want to try it. That dessert though . . . I would LOVE that!
