Welcome to June and this week's edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for your neighbor there. Here we go...
Oh and my favorite birthday parties are home parties with a made from scratch cake. A venue now and then is okay, but I love the coziness of a home party. The big thing for me and birthdays, my own or someone else's, is I want the celebrant to feel like they were thought about ahead of their special day.
2. Someone is sending you a dozen roses...what color are you hoping for? Are you someone who gets accused of seeing the world through rose colored glasses? Is your accuser correct? Elaborate.
If hubs is sending me roses they're most likely yellow as those have always been one of my favorites. I also really love the roses that are a little bit pink and a little bit peach. I think they're called Tiffany.
I've often been told I wear rose colored glasses to see the world, but I'm okay with that. I'm a total optimist and I own that. Do I know the world isn't always rosy? Absolutely. But I'm always going to be the person looking for the silver lining, the bright spot, the rose amidst the thorns.
3. June 4th is National Cheese Day...will you celebrate? What's something (besides a burger) you make in the summer months that calls for cheese?
Since cheese is a favorite here I have it in some form most days. In the summer months my favorite is probably a Caprese salad with vine ripened tomatoes, basil from my garden, and sliced mozzarella with salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic glaze.
4. 'tis the season...any weddings on your June calendar? What's the first word that comes to mind when I say marriage?
We have just one wedding on the summer calendar and it happens to be in June. I love weddings and look forward to celebrating newly marrieds.
The first word that comes to mind when I hear the word marriage? Trust.
5. What are you most looking forward to this June?
We have a lot on the June calendar to look forward to including the above mentioned wedding, catching up with friends we haven't seen in several years en route to said wedding, my daughter's birthday, a grandson's third birthday, our anniversary, Father's Day and celebrating all the wonderful dads in our family, and of course lake time.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Have you watched the short documentary film on Netflix called The Quilters? If not I recommend. It's the story of prisoners who learn to quilt and then go on to make quilts for children in foster care, autistic children, and others. It's only about thirty minutes long, too short actually because you want to know more...definitely worth viewing.
You certainly have a lot coming up this month! We tend to slow down during summer.
ReplyDeleteI’ll have to check out that Netflix show. I love quilts and the whole business of making them. The idea of incarcerated people taking up this skill is wonderful!
Sounds like a busy June! I will look up that Netflix show. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteGreat hodgepodge and this will help me come up with hub's bday plan. He is bad about tell me what he wants and wants to do.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have Netflix but that quilt show sounds really interesting!! You have so many fun things coming up soon!
ReplyDeleteI love celebrating birthdays, it sounds like you have had some good one's with your loved ones. That cake looks yummy!!
ReplyDeleteAll roses are so pretty, I think it's hard to pick just one colour.
It sounds like you have some great plans for June.
My mom made me a German chocolate cake as well for my birthday (once I was old enough to know which cake I preferred). I love that homemade coconut and pecan frosting! Your June looks like it's going to be a good and busy one- a bit of traveling and celebrating make for lots of memories. I don't think I've ever seen Tiffany roses but they sound gorgeous! Thanks for the link up and have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI love yellow roses and they are my favorite. The cake looks delicious! I will most definitely watch the documentary. Teaching people this skill while incarcerated and giving them to children in foster care and others is such a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of teaching incarcerated people the skill of quilting, BUT I love, love, love that they are giving them to children who are going through a rough time in their life. Such a great idea!!! I love yellow roses, my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI keep hearing about that NetFlix show... I need to get to it - my Netflix to watch list is ever growing
ReplyDeleteThat's the way birthday celebrations should be - making the person feel loved and special, and that we've thought about them ahead of time. The time spent together with loved ones is my favorite part about birthday celebrations. Well, that and cake! LOL The Quilters sounds really interesting - I'll have to see if we still have a Netflix account though. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt is always delightful to see how you celebrate your loved ones and how you are celebrated. German Chocolate cake is so yummy and the chocolate with raspberry sounds yummy, too. Trust is a good word for marriage. Happy June to you!
ReplyDeleteLove your love for birthday parties. You make everyone feel very special. So sweet. Yes, yellow roses are the best. I'm glad you are always looking for the silver lining. Your salad sounds delicious, enjoy! Have a wonderful time at the wedding. Wow, June is definitely going to be fun for you. So many things to celebrate. No I haven't watched that but I will definitely check it out. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are so pretty! I love making birthdays special too. The Netflix series sounds so interesting! Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteOh my, I may have included you in my answer to #1. No offense meant! It's just that no one here would cater to your demands. LOL!! Your June does sound very busy, but lots of fun. Yes, we saw the documentary and really enjoyed it. It was encouraging to see such tenderness in these men. Enjoy the rest of your first week of June.
ReplyDeleteHi, I like to do the same for birthday's. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am the same with your answer to #2 as well, with the color of roses and how we like to look at the world. ;-)
I keep forgetting about Father's Day! We just go out to eat but it just keeps slipping past me.
ReplyDeleteI have Quilters on my list.
ReplyDeleteBirthdays at your house sound really special. That's awesome!
Sounds like you have a busy time ahead. Your cake from Hubby sounds and looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteMy birthday cake, for years, was red velvet, made from scratch by my mom. No boxed red velvet at the stores back then. She doubled the recipe and put one in the freezer for Christmas. I still look forward to red velvet cake and usually have one during Christmas now. It was a novelty back in the early 90s, when I had my cake bakery and was requested a lot during the holidays. Thanks for a fun Hodgepodge (again!) and I agree that birthdays are special and must be celebrated!!
ReplyDeleteWe mentioned the same color roses and caprese salad too. I will check out the Quilters show.
ReplyDeleteI also like balloons, and I wish people would make a fuss over my birthday but they don't. Those a pretty roses
ReplyDeleteI prefer home parties too, they are so much more relaxed. The cake looks absolutely delicious, I always choose a Black Forest Gateau on my birthday.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a busy but fun June for you, I hope you make lots of lovely memories.
The Quilters is on my list of things to watch I've heard really good things about it.
That documentary sounds so neat!
