Here Comes the Wed. Hodgepodge-Vol 80

Welcome to this week's edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. Be sure to add your link at the bottom of my post and try to visit some of the other links too. That's part of the fun! Here are my answers-

1. How many students were in your high school graduating class? Did you know most, if not all of them?

950-ish. I would say I knew many of them, definitely not all though. You really couldn't know everyone and I also had friends in other grades. My sister was just a year behind me so some of our friends overlapped. Her class was even larger than mine and I think was the peak as far as the numbers.

2. What was the last thing you photographed?

A ginormous rainbow we followed as we made our way up the NJ turnpike in the pouring down rain Sunday evening.

It filled the sky and I could see both ends which doesn't happen too often. I took this with my antiquated cell phone which is why the quality is so stellar. The rainbow was beautiful.

3. Pickles-love 'em or loathe 'em? If it's love what's something you eat that needs a pickle?

Love 'em!! Dill are my favorite and I like them beside a sandwich or a burger. I don't mind if they're on the burger but I prefer them on the side. I also love sweet pickles chopped up in my tuna salad and we must have bread and butter pickles on our holiday relish trays.

4. What's a stereotype you perpetuate without meaning to?

The one that claims women have no sense of direction.

5. Ever been horseback riding? If so, is it something you enjoy? If not, do you have any interest? Did you watch the Kentucky Derby? Will you be watching the last leg of the Triple Crown this weekend?

I learned to ride a horse at summer camp. I liked it but didn't love it the way some little girls love horses. I never asked my parents to buy me a horse. I've ridden a few times as an adult, mostly on trips with the hubs. I enjoy a leisurely ride but its not something I seek out.

I do like to watch horse racing but we missed the Derby this year due to a little something called university graduation. I didn't mind. We'll probably watch the race this weekend...it only lasts a couple of minutes and it would be fun to see I'll Have Another win the Triple Crown. The last time a horse won all three races was 1978.

6. What's your favorite wedding movie?

So many good ones but I'm going with Father of the Bride (the remake with Steve Martin). I predict my hubs will be a lot like his George Banks character when our girls weddings come round. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a close second.

7. What is one 'tourist attraction' in the USA you'd like to see in person?

There are several but The Redwoods in Yosemite National Park is high on my current list.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

In thinking about that last question I googled top 25 USA Tourist Destinations. It turns out I live in one of them-#16. I've been to twelve of the top 25 on this list but my own list includes more natural sites as opposed to theme parks and museums.

  1. Beautiful picture of the rainbow! We saw a double rainbow several years ago when we were on our way to take my daughter to have her knee surgery. I saw it as God's way of letting me know that He had His eye on us and would bless us despite the long recovery she had ahead of her. He followed up on His promises, and she wound up playing better soccer than before she'd gotten injured.

Thanks for always sharing your beautiful pictures!

  2. I picked Father of the Bride too ... and thanks for the reminder of 7 Brides for 7 Brothers - we LOVE this movie (well, my oldest daughter and I do!). :) Have a great rest of the week.

  4. Well, if you've not seen the Redwoods or if it's a return trip....you won't be disappointed. 950+ graduation class...and I thought MY amount was large; guess not.

  5. I've seen those Redwood trees and they are amazing! Well worth the trip. I have more natural sites on my list as well- the rest of it, I'm not interested. I love the old and the remake Father of the Bride and picked them for my answer to that one too! I even thought about Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and about 20 others...LOL Have a great day!

  6. Love the rainbow photo and love seein rainbows as well. I almost said Father of the Bride as well. Great movie.

  7. The Redwoods are stunning! I have family that lives outside of San Francisco and that was alway our favorite place to go when we would visit.

  8. I had to look up #16 and see what it was. I love the Gap. Love to drive thru there.

Funny I also took a picture of that rainbow Sunday night.

  9. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers...I love that movie!

I'd love to see the Redwoods too! I've got a lot of places I'd love to see and most are out west. Hoping when we retire, hubby and I can take a long trip out there.

  10. The stereotype question stumped me...your answer was great!

  11. Wow, that's a big graduating class!
Great rainbow. Isn't it nice that we carry cameras with us almost everywhere we go these days?
And Father of the Bride is a great movie.

  13. After reading several posts mentioning not having been to NYC, I think we need to do a Hodgepodge Meet-Up in NYC!

  14. I want to see the Redwoods too. Most places on my list have nothing to do with theme parks....though I do love a good water park in the heat of the summer. Thanks for continuing to host this. I actually played along today! :) Blessings, SusanD

  15. Oh, I almost put Father of the Bride as my answer. Just love that movie. My husband was very obedient when our daughter got married. He pretty much let us go and do our thing. His only input was with the reception and he said he wanted good food and lots of it. And, that's the way it was. It was a memory we'll never forget for sure.

I don't think I've ever seen both ends of a rainbow. How cool that you did and even got a picture. Happy Wednesday!

  16. PICKLES PICKLES PICKLES! We have so much in common with this answer. Yeah! I have a pickle friend! ;-)

  17. I couldn't think of an answer for the "stereo typical" answer, but once I read yours, I totally had to agree :)

That must have been some high school that you attended!

Congrats on eighty sets of great questions :) and thanks!

  18. Hey, I've been to 15 of those 25 places! Not bad, since I'm only 38! Or am i 39? oh darn - perhaps I should go before my memory completely goes away! :-) And oh yes, you absolutely HAVE to see the California redwoods - they are completely breath taking... literally.

  19. Holy cow! 950ish graduates in your class!! I just don't understand why you didn't know everyone of them. It's safe to say my graduating class was less than a fourth of yours easily and that's even after changing schools. I just can't imagine!

Father of the Bride is definitely a great Wedding movie and I picked it, too. Neither of us had the privilege or headache of dealing with what George & Nina Banks dealt with, but had we my DH would have been like George, too. lol

    Thanks for hosting!

  20. Awesome rainbow! How could I not remember Father of the Bride, I love that movie. Also Seven Brides for Seven Brothers has been a classic favorite of mine since I was young. I was just at the redwoods last summer and Yosemite is wonderful. There is another park of giant Sequoias called Kings Canyon that I want to visit. Also if your already in California you should visit the Methuselah in the Inyo National Forest. The trees have been here since Jesus walked on earth.

  21. Love your responses...we appear to be a good bit alike.

  22. had fun reading you answers---i adore bread and butter pickles--this little store near me--used to have the best ones and for only a dollar!

  23. Ok, so now I want to change my answer to the wedding movie question...I love both the movies you mentioned and forgot them both. I'm proud that 2 of the places on the list are in my home state...they are both awesome. I've been to 7 of those...not bad for someone who never travels.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ooh, the Redwoods! Definitely on the list of places to go!

  25. That rainbow is beautiful!! Father of the Bride was hilarious, and I loved Seven Brides For Seven Brothers too!

  26. Were you near Secaucus when you saw that rainbow?
Enjoyed reading this. Dill pickles are good but I like my sweet and tangy pickles, which are good in egg salad or chicken or tuna salad and on sandwiches.
Enjoyed both movies but 7 brides is old I was a child when I saw it in the early 50's.
Went horseback riding at Bethpage state park 55 years ago. It was ok.
Don't pay too much attention to horse racing. I thought I heard there was a dispute and the 2nd race (Belmont) might not take place.
Can't remember grad class number, was over a hundred at Lynbrook High "60.
Take care, best regards to your family.

  27. Id like to see the Redwoods too! Out of those 25, I've visited 5, seen the boardwalk in Atlantic City, but didn't really get out of the car long. I have family in NYC, so I bet I could talk them into going with me to the New York museums. No real interest in any of the theme parks, but I definitely want to visit the Grand Canyon and San Antonio!

As always, thanks for hosting this super-cool meme!!

  28. I've forgotten to add Niagara falls, Disneyworld & Times square! I have been to most of those places you listed, been to Disneyland & Fishermans Wharf countless times. I'll have to study that more ;)

  29. #1-33! And most I had been to school with since K. Yes, I knew everyone :)

  30. My husband called us on his way to JFK on Sunday night to tell us about that rainbow. The children went outside to look for it but couldn't see it from our backyard. It is beautiful! He told me there was traffic because someone had slowed down to take a picture. Isn't that funny?!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why didn't I think of Father of the Bride? I do love that one. Anything with Steve Martin, really. Funny thing, I saw your rainbow this morning and thought, "Wow, it's been a long time since I saw one of those." And guess what? We got a rainbow here this evening!!

  32. I came back to check your answers after posting mine and am amazed how much we think alike. I didn't say but usually my pickles are beside my cheeseburger and I always remove those on a bought burger...I listed Father of the Bride....and we like natural sites more than touristy places.
I really hate to miss the last leg of the Triple Crown. I'm visiting my Aunt in Assisted Living and then meeting relatives for dinner so I want be near a television. We're traveling about an hour south.

  33. I would like to see Yosemite, too. I dream of a long road trip out west to see sights like Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, Grand Tetons, Glacier National Park, Mt. Rushmore, etc. But then I don't know that I could be away from my grands that long ... and whenever I start thinking about planning a road trip, my thoughts always go to the beach. ;-)
