It's Not Too Late Baby Now for Friday Fragments

I don't know if I have enough for a post today, so it's possible my Friday Fragments will actually be fragments.

Does anybody even read blogs after 3 PM on a Friday?
We'll see.

Half-Past Kissin' Time

I've gotten serious this week about recording what I'm eating and it's been enlightening. The biggest surprise is how often I mindlessly start to eat something that doesn't seem like much of anything...a small bite of this or that, mostly when I'm cooking, but when you put it all down on paper (or enter it into the iPad app) those meaningless bites of nothing special add up to honest to goodness calories. Calories I'd rather have used elsewhere.

I've been inspired to try some new recipes, because hubs (the man with the metabolism of a teenager) can only eat so much grilled chicken and steamed broccoli. I made this baked crispy hoisin chicken not long ago, and we both loved it. Very spicy, so if you don't like very spicy you'll want to reduce the amount of red pepper in yours. We like very spicy here.

It seems like one or both of my girls are traveling every.single.weekend. and I think I'm getting used to it.

Sort of.

And they've
resigned themselves accepted the mom drill, which is-text me when you're at the airport, text me when you board, text me when you land, and then do it all again on the day of your return flight.

I bet there are times when even Generation Y hates technology.

In other news, the weather forecasters say temps in NYC will reach 50 degrees on Saturday. I do hope this isn't one of those times when they're wrong.

Hubs and I have tickets to see Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, this weekend. I am a huge fan of her music and am really excited to see the show.  Almost as excited as I am about the 50 degree forecast. I mentioned to someone today that we were going to the show, and she hadn't heard of it. When I said it's the Carole King Story, she said, 'Who?'

People!! Come on!! Do 'youngsters' only 15 years younger than me really not know Carole King?

And on that note I'll leave you with one of my all time favorites, and wishes for a happy weekend wherever you are.

  2. "read blogs after 3 PM on a Friday? " Well I do think most of my readers are morning people which I'm not. However, a blog being on the internet does really live in a time zone. At one time I had more international readers so it was read all times of the day.
Carole King is a favorite. I really enjoyed the shows she did with James Taylor.
I'm always surprised by people lack of knowledge. Apparently there were some people on twitter during the Grammys that didn't know who the Beatles were.

  4. Oh, yes, most of my blog reading is generally done after 3:00PM.

I love Carole King and would love to see her. I hope you get the 50 degree weather and then you'll have a most perfect weekend.

I've written down everything that I've eaten too and it is so surprising. A bite here and a bite here does add u to quite a few calories.

    Happy weekend!

  5. Well, I read blogs after 3 pm, so here I am!
I, also, know who Carole King is! In fact, I played a CD of her greatest hits, just the other day. I still love her music!
So happy to hear that your daughter's school still teaches cursive :) The schools around here don't, and I really hate that.
    Enjoy your warmer weekend!

  6. My husband had good results a couple years ago on what we called the "iPad diet" where he recorded everything he ate in an iPad app that calculated his calories and when he ate his calories for the day he didn't eat anything else until morning. Best of all it helped him change some of his habits so effectively that after just about 6 weeks he was able to stop tracking everything and has kept the weight off! Enjoy the Carole King show!

  8. I have heard the Carole King musical is really wonderful. I hope you love it - and will blog about it afterwards! Yes, writing everything down that goes into your mouth seems like a good idea - to hep you realize the calorie intake. How long do you plan to continue doing it? It take time!

  9. I don't think many read blogs after 3PM, especially on Fridays as I didn't even get half the number of usual comments. I'm hoping that I'll pick up some more this morning on those who check in the mornings. If not, well ... so be it. I didn't have any time to blog until the afternoon.

And I track my food ... and learned that those little bites REALLY add up in a hurry! Especially when you're 63, trying to maintain, and don't have the time (or energy) to exercise enough to make a huge difference. ;-)

I'm going to try that recipe. I already know I'm going to have to reduce the red pepper because DH doesn't like his food too spicy. ;-)

Enjoy the beautiful weather and the Carole King concert!

  10. My daughter has not caught on to easing her moms worries with texting at each stage of travel....I can feel her eye roll with each inquiry or where she is!! When does the worry end....never! Have a wonderful weekend!

  11. That chicken looks delicious! My son texts me like that too and actually so does Mark. I really like knowing where they are when they travel. Enjoy the musical, I bet it will be amazing.

  12. You don't need to explain Carole King to me - I've been a fan for a very long while. I bet the concert is wonderful!!. . .I got a text from our youngest son (Friday) telling me he was on a plane bound for Puerto Rico and would be back Sunday. Even at his age I've made him promise to keep me informed any time he travels. "Mom" - it's part of our job description.
