Front Porch Hodgepodge Sittin'

Welcome to this July edition of the Wednesday Hodgepodge. Add the link to your answers at the end of my post, then grab your ice cold lemonade and go say hey to all your friends neighbors.

1. July is National Anti-Boredom Month. When was the last time you were bored? What's your go-to cure for boredom?

Hmmm...I don't even know. Maybe 1974? I'm never bored.

My go-to cure for boredom? Read, write, nap, cook, call my mom, a cup of tea on the patio or in my sunny sunroom, make some lists...any or all of the above work for me.

2. What's the last thing you made a reservation for?

Have mercy. We have been the reservation making fools around here in recent days. I will attempt to outline it for you here. Strap in-

a) planes, rental cars, pet and human lodging for our beachy getaway later this summer

b) an 80th birthday celebration for my father in law happening in Tennessee that has me arriving from SC, but returning home from TN with my hubs, who will either drive or fly from NJ after we figure out what to do with the dog, who will only have been home from the kennel following our beach trip the week before, and then my girls also coming from hither and yon

c) firm date and logistics for family and bridesmaids to travel/stay in MD the weekend of the bridal shower when the bridesmaids alone live in 8 cities, 6 states, and two countries, let's not even count the places family comes from

d) Christmas arrangements which may or may not involve travel, rentals, a kennel, and

e) can't forget a fabulous wedding soon after, many states away, which definitely involves a whole lot of reserving everything under the sun including travel, hotels, rentals, a caterer, photographer, florist and more.

Do you see why hubs and I need that beach trip???
And why I'm never ever bored???

3. What's one thing on your summer bucket list? Any plans to make it happen?

A week with my toes in the sand, a book in my lap, and a glorious sunset sky.

Any plans to make it happen? Absolutely.

4. What's your favorite summertime sip?

Pimm's, but that's a rare treat. My most sipped summertime sip thanks to the daily email reminders from the boot camp instructor is water.

5. What do you find is the best way to handle another person's hostility and hopefully ease the tension?

Do.not.engage.

Step away from the offender if at all possible. Of course there are oftentimes where that's just not possible, and if that's the case then I try to say very little. In my experience lots of words just add fuel to their fire.

Hostile people. Shudder. Ugh. Ick. But...

I do try to remind myself that person has a story, and perhaps their story is painful and hard. I don't think that excuses bad behavior, and in my opinion hostile behavior is near the top of the list of bad behaviors, but still they are the way they are for some reason and it's not me it's them.

6. Your favorite film set in summer?

That's a toughy, but I'm going with The Parent Trap, either the original with Hayley Mills or the remake with Lindsey Lohan. It's one film that makes my top ten in any setting.

7. What's a word you're using too much of lately.

I'm stumped. I think that second question did me in-ha! How about 'book' as in reserve that plane seat, hotel room, venue, rental car, you get the idea.  It's all fun stuff that I'm excited about though, most especially #2-e.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Humans are awesome-

and a little bit crazy!

  3. Oh My-watching the video I was amazed and thinking how far humans will go sometimes for adventure. You definitely need some R & R time!

  4. I'm exhausted after reading your reservation list! Reminded me of daughter's wedding. We lived in Dallas, but the wedding was in Illinois. Planning long distance has its challenges.

  5. Oh, my! I'm exhausted just reading your list for #2! You're very organized, so I know you can handle it all though :)

That was quite an 'adventuresome' video!

  6. I try to remember that everyone has a story but it's just not easy for me to that with adults. Kids, absolutely. But adults, I just have it in my mind that they know better and should have better control. Good thing I'm not an administrator at our school. LOL Ah, the days of reserving this and that for a wedding. Hang in there! "Knowing" your family, this is going to be a fabulous wedding!

  7. That video is crazy! People are either awesome or totally nuts! LOL

Great Hodgepodge (always), Joyce. I can't believe how organized you are six months out from the wedding. Amazingly on top of things! I want to be like you when I grow up! ;)

  8. I am not awesome... you will find me doing ZERO of those things those people are doing in the video :)

  9. Wow! People really are awesome!!

I would go crazy with all those reservations. I can handle some, but not all that. I don't think our wedding will be quite that involved. I only know of one that will be coming from out of state.

Wishing you well on all your plans. And yes, I can see why you need that week at the beach.

  10. I never thought of the Parent Trap, but that's a good one. I like both, too, though the new one might win by just a bit....because Dennis Quaid is so darn HOT in it. ;)

  11. I have "reservations" about being the eventual mother-of-the-bride. At first all those bookings and logistics are like a fun game or puzzle, but I reach a state of panic and or paralysis at some point. I think I'll enlist a wedding planner--I've heard they're worth every penny.

Actually, I get away from hostile people if I can. If I can't, , I try to seek understanding that might possibly get them talking calmly or at least civilly.

Poor dog--can't imagine how yours is feeling this summer;. She'll be glad for the second week of January , too!

  13. I do hope that you have a daily regime of vitamin therapy. :o)) Just making all the reservations you have had to make and will make have my head spinning. It's always fun to stop by and read about your exciting life.

  14. Oh yes, you definitely deserve that beach trip! The perfect balm for a busy spirit.

Humans are awesome but I guess I am not as I wouldn't even consider ... not even for a second ... doing anything the people did on that video (not that I could even physically do any of them).

  15. That is some itinerary you have going on!!!
    I love The Parent Trap.......

  16. Goodness! Your reservations list made me tired! ha! Where will you be putting your toes in the sand? If it's along the Grand Strand let me know! We can meet up and finally connect in person!

  17. About to head to the beach next week - cant wait to feel the sand!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Humans are awesome, yes - but all I could think of as I watched those people was how many times they had crashed BEFORE doing those moves correctly! Ouch!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. All those reservations! And so much fun ahead! Enjoy it all.

  20. I like Parent Trap too... both of them. That video is something else. They are amazing and some are certainly scary.
The beach sounds good to me too.

  21. wow yes i agree some humans are serious daredevils! ;o
I liked Parent Trap too, i've seen the remake several times, i dont remember the original. I think they made that in the 60's or 70's. Way before my time.
I wish i was able to go with my sister. Although i couldn't handle that long 11 hour flight. ;o She went with her friend she used to be neighbors with, they met through their dogs.

  22. Yikes, your reservations need reservations! :) Our weddings (if/when they ever happen) will likely be out of state for us (except for the girl child) so I hope you're writing all this down in a journal for future publishing to help all of us when it does come time. Just sayin'
I suppose even when you're toes are in the sand, you'll be wedding planning, eh? Poor doggy. I always worry about Cooper when we are gone a lot. I know he's 'just a dog' but still.

  23. Re: question #2 what are you doing with your spare time? About your random thought...a real impressive video of some really impressive feats. Thanks for sharing.

  24. The baby at the end of the video COULD have been mine, but it isn't! We called it "zooming." No boredom or confrontations for me either and though I didn't put it down on my blog, my biggest "reservation" is riding on my husband's motorcycle... :-/

  25. I realized after reading other posts that I totally misread question #6. I was reading it as "film set" rather than "a film set in summer". I was wondering what the heck a film set was. Duh! Lol. I can't even imagine making the kind of plans you're making right now. I have a hard enough time just keeping our daily schedule straight.

  26. After reading all the comments, I realize mine did not go through for some reason. Just wanted you to know that my daughter, whose oldest will be getting married next May, could use your wedding planning binder. Your check-off list is already amazing! I did send my granddaughter the link to Shannon's blog. Love the Bridesmaid box idea. So enjoy keeping up with all the excitement surrounding the big day.

  27. It's a good think you are organized because all this logistics would be overwhelming ! Have a wonderful weekend!

  28. You certainly can't be bored with all the activity planning. Maybe a better question would have been what do you do when you worn out.
"make some lists" - I do not comprehend. How could creating a list erase boredom? There must be some listing portion of my brain missing because I am just not fond of lists.
