Willy Nilly Silly Old Hodgepodge

Welcome to the Wednesday Hodgepodge! Can you believe it's the middle of January? If you've played along today add your link at the end of my post. Hodgepodge links only here on Wednesdays please! And be sure you leave a comment for the blogger before you because that's what good neighbors do. Here we go-
1. ASAP typically stands for 'as soon as possible'. What else could it stand for in your life right now?

Always Seems we Are Packing?

2. Are you the last person to speak up in a group or the first to have an idea? Why do you suppose that is? Is it a good thing or no?

I'm probably too often the first to speak up. Why? I'm kind of a take charge person, some might say bossy, but I will stick with take charge because that sounds nicer. Is it a good thing? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I hate being in a group where no one takes charge, but I don't always need to be so quick to jump in either. It's a fine line and I'm working on it.

3. What do you remember best about being 12?

I was in the 6th grade and back then 6th grade was the last year of elementary school. In other words 6th graders ruled the world, or at least it felt that way. I remember running around the neighborhood with my friends, hanging out at the Duck Pond, walking to and from school, skating at the roller rink which in hindsight was kinda sketchy but we loved it, BOYS!, riding our bikes to the pool, that sort of thing. I also recall spending a week with the entire sixth grade at an environmental camp which is where I heard my teacher swear after she drank from a cup another student had put soap in. That I remember, because it was shocking.

4. January 18th is National Winnie the Pooh Day. Which character do you relate to the most, and why? If you're stumped go here for inspiration.

I loooove Eeyore. I am not an Eeyore but I love him. The quiz said I'm most like Kanga and I'm okay with that. The description said 'caring and supportive, more adventurous than people realize, up for anything reasonably safe and somewhat sane, and a protector especially as a parent'. Sounds pretty accurate for an online quiz.

5. What's an app you use that helps simplify or make life easier for you in some way?

I love Map My Walk. It records routes, distance, pace, elevation, and calories burned although I always feel technology overstates that last bit. I can add a playlist too and I like music when I walk so I use that feature a lot. Other favorites would be Goodreads for keeping track of what I've read, want to read, and what others are reading, Pinterest because it's my go-to place for saving all the online things I want to save, and Restaurant Finder which is handy when you're in a new city and are looking for a nearby place to eat.

6. San Francisco (CA), San Diego (CA), San Juan (PR) San Antonio (TX) Sanibel (FL)...you have an all expenses paid long weekend to one of these destinations. Which one do you choose and why?

I was just in San Francisco and as much as I'd love to see San Diego the thought of another cross country trek just now is not that appealing. Today I'd choose Sanibel because it's a short plane ride away and a weekend at the beach is never a bad idea.

7. Share with us a song that makes you feel nostalgic? For what?

Lots of songs make me feel nostalgic for various seasons of my life, but I'll go with the first thing that popped into my head-White Flag by Dido. Not what you were expecting is it?

The song was released just as we were moving to the UK, same month in fact, and they (over)played it all.the.time there. In fact hubs couldn't stand it back then, but here in America on a random Tuesday when it catches you unawares? Well, we are taken back to a place in time, to that first year in England with all it's highs and lows, and we feel all mushy inside. Nostalgic.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

We left the rain and chilly temps in California and woke up Sunday morning to 70 degree weather on the lake.

My daughter2 teaches school and had snow days Monday and Tuesday, a delayed opening on Wednesday, and then on Friday was out walking her dog in shorts and a t-shirt. I love winter in the south.

Sunday was so nice in fact, that friends of ours put their boat their boat in the water and took us for a ride, and it was glorious.

 Everyone agreed.

  1. I too got Kanga as my pooh character. I sometimes feel like Eeyore, but found that the description for Kanga was a good fit for me too. Our lives are similar in many ways so it makes sense that we are Kanga sisters.
    Cheers!

  2. I would love to sit in the warmth at a beach too, instead I am looking on a dirty street still full of snow !
I also love Dido, she has such a nice voice !

  3. I love that you chose the Dido song and talked about England. I also love that view from your dock.

  4. The quiz thingy also dubbed me as being a Kanga.

    Gorgeous dogs!

  5. Weather here is a little crazy --snow, cold, and then we hit 60 this week. Oh yes, I forgot I use Map My Walk this gives me inspiration to keep on walking.

  6. I love your lake and I really like the friends you rode with! Beautiful dogs. Funny how the song you hated can cause such mushiness now. I confess I still don't like to hear Rose Garden by Lynn Anderson. The radio woke me up out of a sound sleep every morning at 5 with her singing that song. Thank you for the Hodgepodge questions.

  7. I completely forgot about Map My Walk and Map My Run! I use them a lot in the spring and summer, especially. We have been enjoying the warm weather, too. In fact, it's currently 64 degrees here right now...in January! You won't hear me complaining.

  8. Winters in the south are different, aren't they? We rarely get to wear sweaters, and can never pack away our summer clothes!
Joyce, the linky has stopped showing up on my computer again. If you have a moment, could you please link my post up? I'd really appreciate it.
    Hope you get some rest,
    Kathy

  9. Your nostalgic song is about as unexpected as mine probably is! I like Dido and enjoyed the song again. Funny to see Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) in her video. We watch 'Bones' all the time and that made me chuckle to see him in the music video. It's good to have you back and I enjoyed reading your answers (as always). Wishing you a good rest-of-the-week!

  10. I love #1 - that's the military's spouse's motto.

  11. Looks like we could walk the beaches of Sanibel together. Great questions this week. Lots of fun!

  12. You're sending me on a few little searches today so that I will understand what you are talking about. You always make me think!

  13. Sounds like you're glad to be home. Too bad you were in Cal. during all that rain. Hope you have a restful week.

  14. I love Pinterest too. A boat ride on a lake sounds great to me right about now. We've had rain and it's been so gloomy out. Your 12 year old memories made me smile :)

  15. Love your ASAP, made me chuckle! This conjured up all kinds of fun memories for me. I had not thought about those self piercing earrings in a very long time. Happy mid-week!

  16. My school went from Kindergarten thru 8th grade. True CA has been hit with a lot of rain. I know the drought is over up north. We have storms hitting again tomorrow. This will be week four and we definitely need it! Crazy weather across the country. A boat ride sounds lovely.

  17. The lake is beautiful and the temps sounded perfect! A long way from the snow and cold here in New England.

  18. Yep, a beach is always good. Love the pictures on the lake. Thanks Joyce for doing the Hodgepodge.

  19. I absolutely cannot stand the weather down here. It's driving me nuts. It hasn't always been this way. When I first moved to the low-country from upstate 31 years ago, there were still seasonal changes down here. Now, there just aren't. Not good. I should have put Spotify on my useful apps list. Darn. Map My Walk I do not love because it never tells me I've gone as far as I think I have. LOL Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  20. I bet those two pretty dogs would really like to be IN that water. It is difficult to keep a retriever out of the water. Have a good week.

  21. Did the student put the soap in the cup on purpose or did it just happen, like a poor rinsing job? I couldn't help but laugh at that one. :)

The quiz said that I am a Kanga, too. I think it fits, though in many ways I am very much my precious little Eeyore. I have a room full of stuffed Eeyores, by the way.

What beautiful dogs! One of our friends had a seeing eye dog named Pilot that was a Golden Retriever. He was so beautiful and such a loving dog.

Southern winters are perfect. Southern summers are entirely too hot, especially over here in Texas. I'll take a Carolina summer over a Gulf Coast Texas summer any day!

Thanks for hosting the Hodgepodge, Joyce. Have a blessed evening.

  22. That camp story is funny. Made me laugh today. Thank you, as always for hosting Joyce! It's SO fun!

  23. First of all Joyce, thanks for the Hodgepodge! I was in the middle of leaving you a comment this morning at 7 AM and who knows what happened. I love Eeyore in the book only, and i do love doing the voices. But in real life dealing with Eeyore is not easy. Fortunately, Mr. C is not one. Lol The lake looks wonderful and to take a boat ride with two pups sounds perfect. I'll have to look up the song. I've never heard it, I think. Have a great evening!

  24. 70 degrees and sunshine....what I wouldn't give.

  25. Doggies love boat rides, too! Love that picture!!

  26. Your friends are really a couple of dogs! Sorry, I just had to. Ha ha! Your answer about speaking out in groups completely resonates with me. I think you and I may be a lot alike.

  27. These were fun, easy questions this week, and welcome back, by the way. Your trip west did sound like a great time with Daughter1 but also a bit harried with delays. Glad you are back to enjoy this crazy weather and your beautiful lake.

  28. Another week when I copied the questions and then forgot about them. Alas, I was going to pick Tigger. I have a 2-foot tall stuffed one that my kids bought me years ago. I love that he is so happy. And bouncy!

  29. I can empathize with Eeyore. Like him, I tend to be a silly ass. I love the pictures of your new lake home. I must confess a bit of envy. I'd like to visit San Francisco at some point. Thanks for another Wednesday Hodgepodge.
