Hodgepodge Chatting

Welcome to the Wednesday Hodgepodge! So glad you've joined us today, and if you've answered the questions add your link at the end of my post. Be sure to leave a comment for your neighbor because it's summertime and the commenting is easy. Something like that...

1. When was the last time you chatted with a neighbor? About what? (sharing that last bit is optional)

I chatted with a neighbor in the grocery store this morning (Tuesday). We talked about an upcoming event in the neighborhood and our summer comings and goings. We often chat with neighbors as they walk their dogs or pull up close to our dock by boat.

2. River, lake, ocean, or waterfall...which one are you most like and why?

I'm going with the obvious-a lake. Mostly calm and serene, sometimes deep, rarely murky.

I took this fun little quiz online which said I was the ocean, and I'm okay with that too. According to this four question quiz I'm a deep thinker.

3. July 13 is National Delaware Day. Ever been to Delaware? Delaware is called 'the first state' because it was the first to declare independence from the British. What's your state's nickname and does that moniker make sense to you? If you were in charge, what nickname would you give your home state?

Bethany Beach Delaware

I've been to Delaware many times. We spent several summers vacationing in Bethany Beach, a family friendly town on the Delaware shore. We've also spent time in Rehoboth Beach, Bethany's neighbor.

Cape Henlopen State Park

Another little spot we love in the state of Delaware is Cape Henlopen State Park. We lived in Maryland for nine years and Delaware was a short car ride away so an easy trek. And just like George, I've also crossed the Delaware River. I've driven over the Delaware Memorial Bridge too many times to count in our travels north to south and vice versa.

I live in the Palmetto State which applies more to the coastal areas than the upstate, but I'm okay with it.

4. What dish did you contribute to the last pot luck meal you attended? Do you have a go-to recipe for pot luck suppers?

Trying to remember the last pot luck I attended? It's been a while, unless you count dinner at my sister's house where I offered to bring dessert. I made Texas sheet cake cupcakes and they were yummy. I don't really have a go-to pot luck recipe. It all depends on my mood and what I feel like cooking.

5. What is your number one tip for a brand new parent?

Trust your instincts, and remember parenting is a thousand moments spread out over the course of a lifetime. Having a bad moment or even a bad day doesn't make you a bad parent. Rest in the knowledge that the maker of heaven and earth knows your little one by name and loves him more than you can fathom.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Daughter2 flew to WA on Monday to spend time with her sister before baby boy arrives. All of us soon to be grandmas and great-grandmas here on the East Coast are glad she's there to provide some TLC to the soon-to-be mama, and send us first hand reports on any baby bump activity.

Yesterday they took advantage of the date and got free Slurpees. When I look at this picture I flash back to the days of summer reading programs at our local library where they'd earn a coupon for a free Slurpee by reading a pile of books.

Wasn't that just yesterday too?

  1. For pot luck, I tend to take what I'm in the mood to cook, too :)
How nice that Daughter is able to spend some 'sister time' with Daughter 1! I'm sure she appreciates the distraction at this point in her pregnancy. It won't be long now :) I'm excited for you!
I'm unable to see the linky again today, and would be most grateful if you'd help me out with joining in the fun today. Thanks in advance.

    1. They do have a name, but are keeping it to themselves until they introduce him to the world. We just call him Baby Boy for now. I have a pretty sure guess as to what his first name will be, but they could surprise me. Less than three weeks now! Friends here have a daughter also expecting identical twins in the next month. They didn't find out the gender so a double surprise on birth day!

  6. I love driving over the Delaware Memorial Bridge for some reason. Maybe because it is exciting to be leaving NJ when heading South ;) Glad your daughters are together and enjoying the special moments leading up to the birth of your grandson. How exciting!

  11. How sweet your girls got some time together. Mine had such a good time with one another this past weekend. It was nothing short of glorious having them all under one roof even if our time did fly by. I blinked and it was over. I'm still trying to remember the last pot-luck we attended. It was probably something at the church we attended when the girls were growing up. Those were fun. I have no idea why we don't do those anymore. Maybe I'll host one soon. :)

  12. Awww, love your parent tips, so, so, true!
It does seem like yesterday that our Littles were little. That's a hard thing for new parents to grasp as well, just how quickly time flies while you are tending your family.
Three weeks WOO HOO, will be here before you know it!!!!!!!

  13. Oh Joyce, it was just yesterday. Going thru some mom moments here. ;-) Sam is a Senior this year. He just got accepted to Chippewa Valley Technical College. He is going into Mobile IT, computer programming. This week he volunteered with others at his place of work, to team remodel. He is putting in 12 hour days this week and a few more weeks in July and August to help remodel the store. He is saving for a Jeep, so this is exciting for him. :-)
Letting a bit more of the apron strings go here as mom. I am so proud of him, and his discussions. Thank you for letting me vent that out a bit. LOL
Next week we are going on a vacation to Lake Superior. So I am one happy mom to have my boys all to me. ;-)

I too, like to make what I feel like for a pot luck. Many times it is what is in season. Usually in the summer, I will take my peach cobbler.

  15. You comments are so filled with joyful moments of time spent with family ... just love them... but also,, your parenting tip really hit home,, because bad days do occur and it is easy to feel like as a parent you have failed sometimes....I love your response to that... just trust your maker and know he is still in heaven and He knows the beginning from the end....

  17. My kids, when expectant parents, have seldom revealed names ahead of time. It's fine. Most of the time they also chose not to learn the gender ahead of time.

Loved all of your pictures, and your parenting advice is the best I've ever heard. (Mine took a distinctly practical, maybe selfish, turn.)

  18. Here in the UK potluck dinners aren't really a thing, though we have had a few extended family get-togetherness where the host provides the main items and asks guests to bring extras such as a side salad, a dessert, some dips etc. Eloise

  21. Parenting is one of those learn as you go kind of things. Great that your daughters can share this time together. Have a great week.

  22. It's so nice your girls were able to have some sister time together before the "big day". Exciting times for ALL of you! As always, thank for hosting Hodgepodge!

  23. YES! It was *just* yesterday. Time flies way too fast when it comes to our little ones. Isn't it funny how the 9 months or so waiting for your grandson to come seem to take forever, but the 20+ years from birth to adulthood of your girls went zipping by? Time is such a funny thing.

I am excited right along with you!

Your girls look so happy together. What precious photos. :)

    Have a blessed week. :)
