Farming The Hodgepodge

Welcome to this week's edition of the Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered the questions add your link at the end of my post, then go say howdy to your neighbor on the list. Happy October y'all!

From this Side of the Pond

1.  Have you ever spent time on a farm? Tell us a little bit about it. Have you ever grown your own pumpkin? Been on a hayride? Driven a tractor? Milked a cow?

My dad grew up on a farm near Denver, and growing up we spent some time visiting my grandparents there. I knew I'd written about it somewhere on my blog and when I searched discovered I'd asked the first part of this question just two years ago

I aim for no repeats here in the Hodgepodge, so oops.

Also, I mentioned it here and here too which confirms what I already knew, and that is

-this blogger ain't what she used to be!

Anyway, a few things I loved about the farm were-playing with my cousins, following the farm cat around, swimming in the farm tub, climbing trees, and the feeling of freedom and wide open spaces the farm provided. Farming is a lot of hard work and not a job you can 'leave at the office' so I have great admiration for farmers.
I've never grown my own pumpkin or driven a tractor, but I have milked a cow and been on many a hayride.

2. What's something younger you would like about you now?

That I raised daughters who love to read, cook, talk, and take care of people. Daughters who are so much like me yet are also not like me in the most magical of ways.

3. What are three things you'd like to do more often? Three things you'd like to do less often?

More often? Hold my grandson, have a cup of tea with my mama, and hang out with my girls any old time I felt like it.

Less often? Pay bills-pay taxes-watch what I eat

4. What's on your nachos?

Speaking of watching what I eat-ha! I can take or leave the chili on nachos, sometimes I think it makes them too messy, but definitely add plenty of cheese, chopped tomatoes, and jalapenos. And don't forget the guacamole.

In fact you could skip the nachos and just bring me the chips and guac.

5. What's the most random thing in your purse or wallet? Does it need to stay there?

I pared down my purse at the beginning of summer, so not a lot of extras in there right now. I am carrying around tickets to a fundraiser we're attending later this month and I definitely need to put them somewhere safe. Safe and in a location I'll remember when it comes time to attend the actual event. ahem.

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

My mother-in-law has been here visiting this week so we've been out and about every day. Also, I'm getting PT three times a week for my ankle not my rib which, by the way, is better but not perfect and my smashed finger is also finally on the mend in case you were wondering. Did I mention my smashed finger?

We're traveling this month, twice!!, and I still need hotel rooms for two different spots, a rental car reserved, and a rough itinerary. My house needs dusting, vacuuming, and sprucing and we likely need to purchase outerwear, rainwear, and footwear for one of those trips I just told you about, plus the zipper on our go-to suitcase is on the fritz so there's that to think about as well.  Also the world. The WORLD!

And then of course way down the list there is this poor neglected blog that I sometimes wake up in the night thinking about all the thinks I want to tell you about but see above. October is not for sissies.

Here's my happy thought-The dimple! The hair! The smile!

Every little thing is gonna be alright.

  1. Ha ha lots of similarities in our answers, especially the pic at the end! I don't think you did mention the smashed finger. Ouch. Hope you are on the mend. It's six weeks until we leave for a long trip to Australia and I'm trying not to panic lol

  2. We raised ours with the love of books, too. However they now live in a world of TLDR (Too Long, Didn't Read). Very few of their friends read and it is doubtful you will find any who bother to read anything they did not have to. Have a blessed week.

  4. Loves every thought here, Joyce, and that is one happy baby, so glad you and your husband are on the mend, nothing is worse than an injured finger, I never knew how much I used mine until one got out of hurt. Thank you for hosting.
    Blessings,
    Sue

  5. Joyce,

I admire farmers, too. It's definitely a job you can't leave at 5pm. Your charming memories of time spent at your grandparents' farm is heartwarming. I love reading stuff like this, it's almost magical! No worries if you repeated yourself on the question. I was none the wiser and I'm sure all the regulars didn't mind. It's good to share the same things again with your friend. Your little grandbaby is so adorable and I can see the love radiating from his tiny face. I bet he's thinking I have the best mommy and daddy and grandpa and grandma and.... in the whole world! That's what his expression is telling me. :) I hope your PT continues to go well and have fun in your upcoming travels. Thanks for sharing & hosting the mid-week fun! ;)

  6. I'm with you on the chips and guacamole since I never order nachos. Your grandson is so cute. Love the different stages as they grow. I can just hear the coos and giggles. Oh so sweet! I hope all your injured body parts are getting better and better each day.

  7. Sounds like you have a full plate this month, Joyce. Funny what you said about asking the farming question again. I have to check last week's posts to make sure I don't repeat myself. Have a great week and I hope you get everything done.

  8. That baby boy! I love how happy he is! Our baby boy is a serious baby. I've never seen such a serious baby. Not that he doesn't smile or interact but he's just so serious. I believe he's a thinker. A figure-outer. It's probably all related to his brilliance. I know this because Baby M was pretty serious at first, too and she's brilliant so... LOL Will one of your trips be to see your little love? I completely understand putting things in a safe place and remembering where that safe place is. That's why I have the two things I mentioned in my wallet thingy. I thought about #2 and I do think my younger self would be happy that I had 4 daughters. I always wanted to have daughters for as long as I can remember. :) Daughters are so awesome. :) Have a wonderful day and feel free to come down here to dust and vacuum when you finish up there. Oh, and visit!

  9. Oh, that baby boy! Could his smile be any happier? He knows he is loved and he knows his people.

I loved what you said about your girls (in what younger you would like about you now) and wish I had thought of that answer. It's true of my girls too. Like me, and yet in many ways so much better than me.

Thanks for hosting -- great questions this week! -- and safe and happy travels!

  11. Oh, my goodness, your random thought is just adorable. When they start smiling it just melts your heart. What a sweetie! Your Oct. makes me tire and we have a pretty busy one ourselves. Wishing you a complete recovery!

  12. Yes, farmers do work hard! I can tell you, just growing a garden is hard work!
I didn't know you were having ankle problems, too...and a smashed finger! I hope you're back to normal, soon.

Our October will be busy, but not quite as busy as yours, thank goodness :)

Your grandson is growing fast, and getting cuter by the day. They don't stay little long enough.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to see the "linky" today, so if you see this comment and have time, could you please link me up? Thanks in advance, for everything you do!
    Have a great week,
    Kathy (Reflections)

  14. Yes! The hair, the dimple, the smile...so fabulous.
Sorry about your ongoing problems from your fall. Hope all mends up soon and well. Fun farm memories. I enjoyed your answers. Happy traveling to you.

  15. Sounds like you have very fond memories from the farm. That awesome! Love your answer for #2. I agree, give me the chips and quac. I don't remember hearing about your smashed finger although I may have missed a post of yours. Your grandson has the best smile, what a doll he is.

  16. I enjoyed this weeks questions and your answers too. You all stay safe with all that traveling you'll be doing. Hoping one of the trips is to see that beautiful grandbaby!!

  17. Oh my gosh, he's darling! Ummm... finger? I don't recall the finger incident. I'm trying to remember the wrist exercises (and do them) so I don't have to take time to actually go to PT to do them. I assume from the clothing you need, you're coming West? :)

  18. Well I can see I misunderstood question 2. Doesn't surprise me though, lol, I did this in a hurry. And actually I agree with you on the nachos. I can (and should) skip those but just give me chips and guac and I am happy. That grandson is a little doll! I agree just look at those dimples and smile. Have a good day!

  20. Great questions this week Joyce and love your answers. You're right when you say that farming is not something you can leave at the office - all my growing up years we only ever went away in winter as that was the only time we could leave the farm.
Love how you talk about your daughters and they sound lovely.

  21. Thanks for your kind comment about Nathan, he could do with some of your little guy's hair though! Hope you get to see him again soon.

  22. Hooray for daughters who like to read!
I said I'd like to pay my bills less, too. Wish I had thought of less taxes. I'd definitely like less of that!

  24. Thank you for sharing the photo of your adorable grandson. I believe that thats you wrapped around his little finger? #lovebeingagrandparenttoo
There seems to be a consensus forming on the do more/do less often question. I am always impressed by how often a consensus forms on many of your Hodgepodge questions.
SWMBO continues to do well. Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts on her behalf. Thank you for another wonderful Hodgepodge.
