A Hodgepodge Heart To Heart

Happy Valentine's Day! What better way to celebrate than with the Wednesday Hodgepodge? If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post then leave a comment for the blogger linking before you. Share the love!

1. When's the last time you had a heart to heart talk with someone? A change of heart? Experienced figurative 'heart failure?'

A heart to heart? Daughter2 was home with us last weekend and whenever she's home we love to sit with a cup of tea and have a good heart to heart. Last weekend was no different.

Nothing springs to mind in terms of a change of heart and I haven't experienced figurative heart failure lately. Although watching some of these Olympic skiers, snowboarders, lugers wipe out might fall into that category.

2. Champagne, chocolates, flowers...what's your Valentine pleasure? Any special plans for the day?

I rate fresh flowers in the house as one of life's best simple pleasures. I especially love being surprised by a bouquet for no reason. That being said hubs often buys flowers on Valentine's Day and that makes me happy too.

We prefer to dine at home on Valentine's Day and generally will cook something together. We'll sip champagne and we might even dance in the kitchen just because we can. We shopped for dinner today and there will be dark chocolate on the menu too.

I still enjoy sending a few cards and sent one to my mom and my mother-in-law and also my girls and of course our little mancub too. All the heart eyes for that little guy today and everyday.

3. Are you a hopeless romantic or do you fall more in the category of practical and pragmatic? What's a gesture you find romantic?

I'm romantic, but not hopelessly so. I took a little quiz online (here) and we know those are completely accurate, right? I scored 83/100 which is pretty close to hopeless. A gesture I find romantic? My hubs cleans the shower and runs the vacuum without me saying a word. What's more romantic than that??? I find an unexpected thoughtful gesture-gift-outing really romantic. A gesture that shows there's some thought and planning behind it is really romantic.

4. Do you ask a lot of questions in life or are you pretty content with what you already know?

Oh I ask a lot of questions. Nobody's surprised are they? I bet this question made hubs laugh.

5. Your favorite power ballad?

Now this is a toughie. Pretty sure you have to go back to the 80's to get the best of the best. I'm not good at the 'choose one' questions, but if I must I'll say this one- I Want To Know What Love Is by Foreigner. Lou Gramm's soulful voice never gets old.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

We put a bunch of bulbs in the ground last fall and I was so excited to see some of them popping up this week. It's not too early is it?

I don't think it's too early here, plus they're barely popping. I'd forgotten all about them so this was a happy surprise.

Hope your day is full of happy surprises too!

  2. Jo,

The snowboarding competitions like the half-pipe always sets me on edge. I'm so afraid the skier is going to come down on his head or break something with all those twists and flips. I took the Hopeless Romantic Quiz. I scored an 86. You and I are fairly hopeless...romantics that is. *giggle* "I Want to Know What Love is" is an excellent ballad. I forgot about this Foreigner song. I kept to the 70s with my picks since I have more kindred spirit to this era since DH began dating in 1976 and then got married in '79. But, the 80s had some good ones, too. Oh yeah, I see tulip and daffodil bulbs shooting up around mid to late February here in East Tennessee, so what you're seeing in yours is probably normal. I love tulips! Thanks for hosting the mid-week fun. Have a wonderful romantic Valentine's Day! PS: DH surprised me with a dozen long-stem red roses and four Godiva truffles last night. He beat out today's rush and rain. :)

  3. I hope it's not too early for the bulbs. We do have winters that fake nature out from time to time but it seems this year we aren't getting any more winter temps. I took that little quiz and scored an 85 so maybe I'm not as hopeless as I thought. LOL Have a wonderful day!

  7. I will have to go outside to see if anything is popping here. Valentine's night plan sounds like a winner. We will have a dinner at home, but not too sure about any dancing, but it sounds lovely. I sent Valentines to the Grandkids. They are now at the age where I struggle to find suitable cards that aren't too childish. They will love what is inside, though. I had to go all the way back to the 60's for a power ballad. Guess I'm old.

  8. We still have at least 2 feet of snow and ice. So nothing is blossoming here. In fact, it looks rather frigid!
    Happy Valentine's Day!

  9. You got me thinking of power ballads and my favorite has to be Don't Stop Beliving by Journey. It's played at pretty much all sporting events in the Detroit area (born and raised South Detroit) and oh the memories. A close second is Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi. Fun question.

  10. How sweet that you will dance in the kitchen! So many figure skaters were falling, it makes it hard for me to watch. I agree, that is very romantic when your husbands will vacuum without even asking. I love that! Hopefully the bulbs mean an early Spring. Happy Valentine's Day....

  11. Are they crocuses (or jonquils, essentially the same)? They generally emerge early.

  12. Yes, and yes, nodding my head as I read through your answers to your questions. :) My mini daffodils are popping up right now, too, so I don't think it's too early for whatever is popping up for you. It is such a surprise every year. We've definitely learned to do Valentine's Day meals at home. Hope you have a good weekend. Thanks for asking so many questions.

  13. Okay, I'm officially hopeless as I scored 96 on the romance quiz. I totally agree about the best power ballads being back in the 80's, and there were several that nearly made the grade.
How lovely to see spring bulbs making an appearance - hope for warmer weather in those green shoots.
Have a lovely rest of the week.

  14. Well I hope it's not too early for your bulbs and look forward to seeing them in bloom. Hope you have a lovely evening with your hubby.

  15. I'm not very good with flowers but I sure would love to see some tulips in my yard come spring. I may have to see if they will grow here.

  16. A very fun HP today! It is not too early for your bulbs to be sprouting. I would have guessed you are a romantic!!

  17. First, "mancub" made me chuckle. Your answer to #4 made me laugh because you ask at least six questions most weeks. Do you have any idea how many questions you have posed since the inception of the Wednesday Hodgepodge? It has to be a considerable number.
SWMBO loves getting flowers as well. Carnations are ever favorite.
Thanks for visiting and your kind comments.

  18. Oh it's wonderful to see anything green popping up! I hope they all make it without further interruption. Is your love language acts of service? I think mine is. I too love it when Mr. C. pulls out the vacuum cleaner and vacuums the rugs without anyone asking - or making me a 'fry' on Sunday evenings. Our men are so good to us, arent' they!

  19. I scored a 44 on the "test." I'm surprised I scored that high since most of the questions dealt with previous romantic experience--of which I have zero. Oh well. So I'm not much of a romantic...but I'm not dead either. :)

  20. I doubt that it's too early in SC...not that all familiar with bulbs but they look like they have lots of insulation in the pine needle and leaves. Sure hope they bloom for you! Great Hodgepodge and as always, thanks for always bringing us interesting questions!
