Aloha Hodgepodgers

Welcome to July and this week's edition of the Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post. And be sure to leave a comment for the blogger before you, because that's what good neighbors do. Now here we go-

From this Side of the Pond
1. July 5th is National Hawaii Day...have you ever been to Hawaii? Any desire to visit or make a return trip? Pineapple, mango, or guava...what's your pleasure?

I drew my first breath in the Aloha State and would love to make a return trip someday. I like all the fruits listed, but if you make me choose I'll say pineapple.

2. Last time you were 'thrown in at the deep end'? Explain.

I took on a volunteer position at church and because I was a late add on (to fill a vacancy) I missed all the training. I'm learning as I go, but am loving it. Deep water is challenging, but swimming there can be lots of fun too.

3. Sun, sea, sand, salt...your favorite when it comes to summer?

Hmmm...it's a tough call but I'm going with sunshine.

4. Bury your head in the sand, the sands of time, draw a line in the sand, pound sand, shifting sands...pick one and tell us how the phrase currently relates to your life in some way.

Maybe the sands of time...see # 6.

5. On a scale of 1-10 (1 = make your own rules and 10=like a warden), how strict were your parents? If you're a parent where on the scale do you land?

I hope my girls answer these questions today. I'm curious as to where they'll say I land. My parents were not overly strict, but they weren't lenient either. There were household rules to follow, chores to be completed, and consequences to your words and actions. There was also a whole lot of love, so a good balance. I'm going to say my parents were a 7 and  I'm probably in the 6-7 range as well.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

We had to say goodbye this week to the sweetest, gentlest, most loving dog we've ever known.  Daughter2's greyhound...

When daughter2 told us she was getting a greyhound several years back, hubs and I both kind of scratched our heads. We didn't know much about them, other than they were bred to race and sweet Gemma was a former racer.

As it turns out greyhounds make wonderful pets. We used to laugh and say it was like living with a stuffed animal because she was such a quiet soul. We are so grateful for all the tender love and comfort she has added to our family. We've known and loved a lot of dogs y'all, but this one was something extra special.

  1. So sorry about Gemma...that is so tough. It's so easy to get attached to a dog quickly. :(
The church position sounds exciting; I'm sure you're going to do an amazing job!

  2. It's always difficult to lose a wonderful pet. I'm sorry. I have been to Hawaii twice - the first time was for our honeymoon. I have written about how it was not the best trip due to my hubby being sick the whole time with a serious viral infection. Thankfully we were able to go back - to Maui - and we really enjoyed the island then. Have a wonderful day!

  5. As long as you are still swimming, one can't be drowning! I know you are an asset to your position at church.
So sorry to learn of sweet Gemma's passing.

  6. I did not know that about Hawaii and your first breath. With all of your travels I'm surprised you haven't been back. Way to go on volunteering at church. You've got this! I am so sorry to hear about Gemma. Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers. ((HUGS))

  7. It's always hard to say goodbye to a beloved pet. I found that parenting question a tough one. It would be interesting to see what our kids think. Born in Hawaii, hope you can make it back someday.

  9. How cool that you were born in Hawaii. I think you should go back and see how much it’s changed since you were born! Ha ha. I’m so sorry about Gemma. It’s always hard to lose a pet, especially a beloved one. Several of my friends have greyhounds and love them. That’s a wonderful picture of you and your daughter.

  10. I live in Hawai'i, on O'ahu, so I guess that answers that question! I'm so sorry about your dog. That's a hard thing to go through.

  13. It is always so very sad to lose our fur-babies. Cats live a lot longer but it doesn't matter how long or short the life, we still love them and miss them. You gave us another fun Hodgepodge and I thank you! Counting the days, I'm sure, until D1 and those boys are back in your arms! xo

  14. Interesting that you were born in Hawaii - don't think I knew that. I'm sure you're doing great with the church volunteering. So sorry to hear about Gemma. Greyhounds make great pets - my son and DIL adopted 2 former racers a few years back. Sadly they only have one now but both of them have been absolutely fine with their 2 little people.

  15. The quote by Agnes Turnbull is great; not sure I've heard it before. But I have heard that greyhounds make wonderful pets. I'm sorry for this loss. That's a really sweet picture you've posted of you, Daughter2 and her dearly departed.
