Welcome to another edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Here we go-
1. It's National Read A Book Day...whatcha' reading? What's a book you want to read?2. Which is better...having high expectations or low expectations? Explain why.
Hmmm...is this a trick question? It feels like a trick question. If you keep your expectations low you're probably not going to be disappointed. You're also going to miss out on the excitement and satisfaction that comes when your high expectations are set and met. As a parent and a teacher I set high expectations and found in general children/people rise to the level you set. Sure they disappoint you sometimes, but more often than not they meet or exceed my expectations and there is a great deal of joy to be found there.
3. Serenity is________________________.
A sense of calm, the ability to breathe-sleep-move through the day with a sense of untroubled purpose.
4. What's the most interesting thing in your purse or pocket right now?
I found a duplo block in my bathrobe pocket this morning. Is that interesting?
5. What helps you calm down?
A nap, a pretty view, prayer, turning off the news/social media, walking away, and a cup of tea to name just a few.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Guess who's getting a baby SISTER!?
Grandbaby number 5 is joining the party in the first part of 2024. We've known for a while now, but daughter2 has only recently shared with folks outside her own family. We're all so excited!!

Another grandchild is such exciting news!
ReplyDeleteI struggled with the expectations answer. I like your answer better than mine :-). Congrats on the new grandbaby - I know y'all are over the moon!!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful news for your growing family. Little girls can benefit so much from older brothers! Your little cousin group is diversifying nicely! Our kids still get together with their cousins as adults and enjoy each other so much. I like your calming down activities. Happy September to you. Fall is just around the corner although I'm already claiming it with Fall decor. Thank you for the 'podge'. I'll be missing in action for the rest of September as we start our travels next Wednesday. Ireland and England here we come! Cheers and Slainte!
ReplyDelete"a sense of untroubled purpose" - I really like that definition of serenity! Congratulations on Grandbaby #5! What wonderful news!
ReplyDeleteLove your random thought! Congratulations to all x

ReplyDeleteWhat's the best way to find you on Goodreads?
ReplyDeleteOh, I found you there! (That wasn't so hard.)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the additional grandchild!! I will definitely add you to my friends list on Goodreads.
ReplyDeleteThat thought is anything but random!! So exciting!
ReplyDeleteGreat answer on expectations.
And your definition of serenity is wonderful!
i was admiring the photo from daughter #1's wedding in your sidebar, marveling at how much your family has grown since that day. Congrats on the expected granddaughter. I am very happy for all of you.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Carrie Soto is Back and The Bucket List but just picked up another 1/2 dozen books from the library this morning. Congrats on the newest grandbaby!
ReplyDeleteWow, what wonderful news about the new addition to your family. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI have seen this little one on the mom's site...which I realize must be the one your daughter has. He is one of the most beautiful children...congrats on the new baby.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith an Australian novel, I can't think of a book I want to read.
ReplyDeleteI think low expectations is better less chance of being let down or feeling like you failed.
Nothing interesting in purse or pockets, don't have any pockets.
I find sitting in a quiet place calming, no sound around me just the sound of distant cars and birds
Remember to pick your battles and don't sweat the small stuff.
OMG! A baby sister, how perfect! We have 3 grand boys and 2 grand girls also, except that our son has the girls and our daughter has the boys. So excited for you!
ReplyDeleteI KNEW it!! When I saw a picture on your post the other day, I thought Maggie looked pregnant and that I had missed a post about it!! That is so wonderful!! Congratulations to all!! Another girl!! Awesome. Thanks for the fun Hodgepodge, Joyce, and for the wonderful news!! xo
ReplyDeleteCongratulations ! 4 grandchildren, I have only one, but it's a nice boy.
ReplyDeleteExciting news! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteBoy, daughter2's life is going to be happily upside down with 2 little ones. My daughters were exactly 2 years apart and I felt like I never sat down for years after the second baby was born. But what a precious time for everyone. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteThe Flora book is on my list of to-reads. I just wish I read faster. I am reading Tom Lake right now and it is very good. Listening to the audio version narrated by Meryl Streep.
Serenity...escapes me lately. But for 2 weekends in a row, we were able to float on our rafts in the pool, under the shade of the sail we have suspended above. It was delightful and serene.
