Friday Favorites

Trying to jot down some of life's little happies this month...linking with Erika and Andrea today for their Friday Favorites party. I always aim for five. ish.

Holiday Dinner Parties

We had friends over for dinner Monday night. Yes Monday. I know!! But sometimes a spontaneous weekday dinner party works well for everyone. The weekends are filled with activity and a relaxed dinner with friends on a weeknight is really enjoyable.

Hubs made a yummy holiday cocktail called Rudolph's Tipsy Punch and it was a hit (recipe linked here). Earlier in the day I opened a box in the garage looking for something and landed on these fun glasses we forgot we bought last year. Perfect for our gathering.

Bonus, hubs sugared cranberries to add to the garnish.

I love a pretty place setting, Christmas dishes, candlelight, and friends around the dining room table. Question-do you post pics of friends on your blog without mentioning it to them first? I typically do not.

I didn't take a picture of the main, but I made Pioneer Woman's Spicy Lemon Garlic Shrimp which was served over Pasta al Limone (recipe here) . I've made the shrimp before and normally just serve it with bread for sopping up the juices, but felt like we needed something more substantial to go with this meal. We loved the pasta and I'll definitely repeat this whole dinner.

Including the pie, which I already posted on the blog once this week but it deserves another mention.

Holiday Fashion

In other holiday news, hubs bought me this cute sweatshirt and I love it. It's comfy, warm but not too bulky, and the sleeves are the right length.

The sleeves! All my grands are listed there which makes me smile.

Scattered Smothered And Covered

Hubs had a doctor's appointment first thing Tuesday morning so I tagged along because he asked me to. We had a Waffle House date on the way home.

Don't knock it til you've tried it.

Christmas To-Do's Getting Done

It took me most of the day Wednesday, but I finally finished wrapping all the gifts I needed to send via the US Mail. I kind of wanted to do a little dance when I left the post office. So nice to have everything mailed that needed mailing.

I had a completely free day on Thursday. Not a thing on the calendar which is so rare. Normally on Thursdays I volunteer, but a church had people filling the slot this week so I sipped coffee in my pjs til 9:30, Facetimed with my daughter, then baked cookies and dehydrated some oranges old school (aka in the oven) for a little project I have plans for this weekend. It was nice.

A Cuppa and a Homemade Cookie

Ended the day with a cup of tea in my favorite Christmas mug-

I'm off to the salon this morning. Today is 'make my hair great again' and that is for sure a favorite.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

  1. That sweatshirt is all kinds of amazing- kudos to your husband. I enjoy having company over randomly during the week. Your table setting is pretty. I do sometimes post pictures of friends without asking permission or telling them. One thing I don't do often is post pictures of kids and I don't use their name if I do (though in older posts I have done so- I don't anymore). I guess an exception to that is family. I do use their names. Have a great weekend!

  5. The dinner party sounds fab and I love the sound of the punch! The glasses are so cute and your table is so pretty.
That sweatshirt is just brilliant. I love that all your grandchildren are on the arm.
It sounds like the Christmas preparation is going well. I felt on top of things until today when I realised I still have things to do.

  6. I enjoyed my coffee at Josh and Laura's home this past Sunday-Monday with that exact mug. Love the sweatshirt! We were at a dinner on Monday night. Makes sense around Christmas to utilize all the days of the week. Hats off to you for getting your things mailed. We are finally done with our Christmas letter so I can finish up the cards and get them in the mail! It is sad that Canada's postal workers are on strike and nothing is getting mailed into Canada or around Canada. Sad for small businesses that rely on Christmas mailings. That drink sounds perfect for a Christmas party! Looks so festive! Be merry and bright!

  7. Love the sweatshirt - so fun! Your table is set beautifully, and I bet the food was delicious. I'm the same way with posting about friends, and even my kids now that they are adults. If I were going back in time, I would change a lot of things about my blogging like not using my kids real names etc. Have a good weekend.

  10. I need someone to 'make my hair great again', but it's got to grow out of the too-short cut I got last week.... (sigh). The sweatshirt is wonderful!

  11. Those glasses are really cute. We don't have any couple friends. Your dinner sounds delicious. I love the sweatshirt. Glad you went out to breakfast. You know, I had an appointment that Mark drove me to and we had breakfast out. It was so wonderful. We haven't done that since the pandemic. I agree with your dance. I got my cards mailed and the out of town packages. Sounds like a nice Thursday and I love the mug. Take care.

  12. So many faves this week! That shrimp and pasta sounds delicious and reminds me of a favorite dish we'd have at Macaroni Grill. YUM! I'm curious to know more about the project you have planned for your. dehydrated oranges... I love the smell of citrus! Your Nana Claus sweatshirt is perfection AND congrats on getting those gifts in the mail! What a great feeling! (I'm hoping I'll feel that way when the Christmas card gets sent off in a few days!)
