Welcome to this week's edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. So glad you're here! If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Comments keep you on Santa's nice list. Here we go-
1. What's one task you'd like a little Christmas elf to sneak in and take care of tonite?2. What's your biggest challenge during the holidays?
Managing my expectations.
3. Are you a cookie baker this time of year? If your year had to be summed up in the shape of a cookie cutter what shape would it be?
I am most definitely a cookie baker. In fact, cookies are probably my favorite thing to bake, especially at Christmas time. Have I baked any yet this year? No. But I will.
If my year had to be summed up in the shape of a cookie cutter I'm going with...
...a waterfall. The backyard project was a big part of our year, so that feels appropriate. Also you can barely see the waterfall in this photo, but I wanted the tree at the top all decked out in Christmas lights in my pictures.
4. Santa likes milk with his cookies. Do you like milk? What kind of milk is on tap in your house? (whole, 2%, skim, almond, oat, etc). What's the last thing you made that called for milk?
I like milk but it's not something I drink by the glass except on a very rare occasion. I do put milk on my cereal, I like milk on my oatmeal, and I put a small splash of milk in my hot tea. I buy skim, but when it comes to my coffee half and half only please.
The last thing I made that called for milk would be this Angel Pie, which is a meringue crust with a custard filling, topped with whipped cream and shaved German chocolate-
This pie is every bit as delicious as it looks and I generally make one around the holidays every year. We had company for dinner on Monday night and I served this for dessert. It's a favorite here for sure.
5. Share one favorite line from a Christmas carol or holiday tune?
From the carol O Holy Night...
"Til He appeared, and the soul felt it's worth..."
6. Insert your own random thought here.
A lot of life is lived in a decade and there's nothing like a Facebook memory to remind us that is so-

That dessert looks like something on British Baking Show! That photo is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteDoes one of your daughters favor you and one your husband? It appears to me that way in the photo but sometimes photos can be a bit deceiving. Anyway, it's a great picture! Your yard is so pretty with the lights and the water! We had snow overnight (not much but as far as I know it was completely unexpected) and the snow looks so pretty with Christmas lights! Thanks for the link up and have a great day!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest looks like her dad, although as she's gotten older I see a tiny bit of myself in her. My younger daughter is my mini.
DeleteThat pie looks so good!
ReplyDeleteThose facebook memories can really take us back to another time. Sweet photo of your girls. Your pie looks delicious! I've gotta run now and pack up the car for our 5-6 hour drive.
ReplyDeleteThat pie looks fantastic! I need to relax on the sweets so I've really have only been having egg nog as a treat.
ReplyDeleteWOW that pie looks so decadent!!
ReplyDeleteSocial media memories are fun! I'm assuming they are your daughters :)
That is a great idea for the elf. I definitely need to do that with my pantry. The tree and waterfall are beautiful. I use half and half too in my coffee! The pie looks delicious. That is a lovely line from O Holy Night. Love your random. Hope the rest of your week goes well.
ReplyDeleteIt just dawned on me that I answered #5 totally incorrectly. I read it as "a line from a Christmas carol or holiday MOVIE." I wondered why everyone else was sharing these lovely lines from beautiful Christmas carols and I was the ONLY ONE sharing a line from a Christmas movie. Oh well . . .it has been a crazy week!
ReplyDeleteHi Joyce,
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea for an elf to do. I will tell mine to do it too. Hee Hee!
Love the waterfall.
And that pie!!!!
I also love the quote you shared in your random.
xx oo

I'll send him right over when he finishes here : )
DeleteI love the tree, and that pie looks so yummy! My cabinet needs a good cleaning too, but it will have to wait until after the holidays. That is a lovely picture of you girls. I love Facebook memories!
ReplyDeleteWow does that pie look good. I will post this tomorrow. smiles
ReplyDeleteAw, I love that throwback photos! Gosh 10 years ago my youngest would only be 7...
ReplyDeleteI feel like December will be like my "spring cleaning" , trying to get things done over the holiday break. The tree outside looks so pretty! Your girls do favor you and your husband. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteYour waterfall with the lit up tree is stunning. What a successful idea that has been!
ReplyDeleteThe photo of your girls in 2014 -- yes, so much has happened with all of us in the past decade.
That pie looks incredible. I make a family recipe of French silk pie, and this looks similar, except with the meringue crust. I think I'll try it! It brings out all the emotions to think of how much can change in 10 years. I feel like our family will be in for some rapid changes in a shorter number of years as my kids enter adulthood with college graduation, jobs, relationships, etc. Thanks for linking every week (even though I don't always get around to writing a post.)
ReplyDeleteIt's a big decade of change. In that photo neither were married, had children, my husband was still working full time, we were living in NJ...it flies!
DeleteOh, your tree by the waterfall is stunning! I know you are all so enjoying that backyard project!! And I love the throwback photo. I might have to root around and see if I can find an older photo. Thanks for the HodgePodge this week!!
ReplyDeleteI am with you with the elfs cleaning the pantry and I like it when Facebook shows me memories from years gone by
ReplyDeleteAnother fun Hodgepodge, Joyce! Cookies. I need to bake a couple of kinds this year to share around the neighborhood and with my sister. I'm still getting use to having whole days to do things now that I'm not working mornings! That's a great photo of your two girls. I loved your Christmas card. It came today! xo
ReplyDeleteIn your case I would ask for several elfs ! I am happy that all this is behind me ! Your angel pie looks delicious ! The photo of your girls are so cute ! My Christmases become smaller and smaller and also not anymore on Christmas dates. I am the last on the list now, because my poor son has to celebrate with MIL, FIL, (divorced) one in the South of Holland and the other in the North and I am in Brussels/Waterloo. He could sing "on the road again" !
ReplyDeleteI could use that elf's services, too. I may not be able to wait until after Christmas to tackle that task.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby is baking as we speak. Can't even tell you how many batches he has baked. Probably at least 8 varieties so far, multiple batches of each. I think he is baking Christmas tree spritz today.
And the lighted tree at the top of the waterfall! Love, love, love it. A local-ish shop at a refurbished old mill has a waterfall cascading down beside the building and they have a lighted tree partway down. So pretty.
That pie! Oh my! The photo of your daughters from 10 years ago reminds me of my own girls. A Facebook memory popped up earlier this week, taken of them in 2014 (ages 21 and 16). Such sweetness! My favorite carol is "In the Bleak Midwinter" and my favorite line is actually the entire last verse "What can I give him poor as I am... give my heart!"
