Happy St. Patty's Day friends. Are you dressed appropriately? Everyone's a little bit Irish today, right?
I do have some Irish in me and wore my green sweatshirt yesterday. The sleeves have big hearts at the elbow. Hubs and I have matching T's we'll wear today. He might not know we're gonna match, but we are. We have a call with our financial planner this afternoon and when we booked the time slot his admin reminded me to wear green. It's just a fun little tradition that's easy to do.
My daughter bought a box of Lucky Charms for the kids to have for breakfast today, which is definitely a treat. Nana might have to indulge too. I'll be making my traditional once a year corned beef dinner with cabbage and red potatoes that we all enjoy, hubs will likely have a Guiness, and that's about the extent of our celebration this year.
Let's talk weekend. Plus a day or two extra because I'm all over the place on my blog these days.
Wednesday hubs and I had an appointment with our attorney in the nearby small big city. We've redone our wills and trust and needed to make it all official with our signatures, so we made a day date of it. Nothing says romance like signing your will, but it's good to have it done.
It was a gorgeous day so we went to lunch at one of my favorite places right after. This little restaurant sits at the edge of a park and we asked for a table outside so we could soak up the sun.
I had a yummy tomato basil soup with crusty bread and a lightly dressed salad. Hubs had a croque monsieur. The menu is French, and dining here makes me feel a little bit like I'm sitting in a European cafe.
I had a mix of half strawberry-half marscapone, which essentially tasted like strawberries and cream and was super deliziosa.
How many countries can I reference in a single post?
Thursday we had a real estate errand to run and that took most of the morning, but at least it was a fun real estate errand. Stay tuned.
Also, we're not moving. Carry on.
Ain't no procrastination like tax procrastination, but I finally sent our organizer off to the accountant. Even mailing it was a headache. I drove to the post office that's a little further away because I wanted to stop at Publix on the way home and that was the direction I needed to go. I arrived at the post office and stood in line for fifteen minutes, only to finally get to the counter and discover I did not have my wallet. Bother.
My daughter asked why I didn't just use Apple Pay, but technology is never my first thought and I was silently a little bit panicked wondering where in the world my wallet might be. I flew out of there and raced home.
Which is where I'd left my wallet, but ugh. I had to go back to the post office and stand in yet another line and I never made it to Publix. Once I got home we all loaded up in the car to take the birthday boy for his celebratory cone.
In other news, the little boy grands are playing baseball and you forget how completely inconvenient kids sport practice times are. Let me remind you...dinner time is when they are. And two different teams with zero overlap in the days and times so meal planning and execution has become a little more challenging. Thursday night hubs grilled two pork tenderloins so we would have leftovers for Friday night and that worked out well.
The weather was fabulous and he made us pork fried rice on the griddle with the leftover meat, which was so good.
He loves the view from his grill station.
Saturday we did some chores around the house, watched some Tennessee basketball, and then hubs and I went over to our friend's house for dinner. He's Italian and made his family's recipe for braciole, which I'd never tried. He sent us home with some of the secret sauce and I need to figure out how to duplicate it. I think the sauce is key.
We were supposed to have storms here overnight on Saturday into Sunday, but they mostly missed us. We did get some rain, which I'm happy about because rain this time of year helps bring the pollen down. We're entering prime pollen season here, and it's not my favorite.
So what were you up to this weekend? Anything fun or productive?
I'm linking this post today with Holly and Sarah and their weekly Hello Monday blog party. Hop over to share your own recap and read what other bloggers have to say. Sláinte!
That outdoor cafe does have a European feel and looks so cute. All the food looks good from the soup, gelato and grilled foods. What a great outdoor view from your patio! I need to update my will and that is on my list for 2025. Enjoy the St. Patrick's day!
ReplyDeleteUgh yes, I always hated that practice times were right at dinner-- it didn't seem to matter what sport it was they always met a dinner time! We had massive storms last night and we're supposed to get upwards of another inch of rain today so I'm thinking this will be at at home sort of day.
ReplyDeleteThe will and trust thing is so important and I commend you on that! We are so, so grateful that we didn't have to go through probate on my mom and dad's property. That is quite worthy of a patio meal. Now you have it done and have the peace of mind.
ReplyDeleteYour outdoor area is just so pretty! I love it!
That gelato looks so pretty and sounds like it was a wonderful treat! Wills and trusts are no fun but are such an important part of estate planning. Making a day date out of it is the best way to redeem the task! Your Irish t-shirt is cute. I have never cooked/worn/or drank anything special for St. Patty's day but I think I am in the minority! I hope you have a great Monday :).
ReplyDeleteI had green pj's on this morning if that counts. I had forgotten it was St. Patricks Day today. Oops.
ReplyDeleteI love your sweatshirt and your celebrations for the day.
Celebrating signing your will is a great thing to do. It looks like a lovely lunch.
Aww! What a lovely gentleman your dog is, licking his birthday cone. How cute.
What a lovely weekend Joyce! Your lunch outside looks and sounds devine! Love the joy that jumps off of your blog pages- don't change!
ReplyDeleteI love the view from your grill. It sounds like you have been checking off all the legal and financial chores! Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteI don't own much green at all so definitely am not wearing it, sadly! I do like this holiday but hardly ever partake in the food. I tell you, I totally understand the whole kid sport practice thing! Isaac's are T/TH 5:30-7. Right in the middle of normal dinner time! Luckily, we haven't eaten at the "normal" time for years now so he gets home and has something around 3:30/4 and if still hungry later, just some fruit.
ReplyDeleteHi Joyce, I loved the ice cream story for the birthday dog.
ReplyDeleteYour post made me smile ... as always, thank you for the upbeat way that you are.
Carla
Hey, hey!!! Sounds like a great weekend with super weather. Except for the loss Sunday, it's been fun following the Vols this year :). They got all their games in with FL which few were expecting - the storms were not as bad as predicted here in East TN either. Funny enough, my daughter made fried rice on our Blackstone for us and our friends Friday night - 'tis the season!! And yes, those sports schedules. . .I remember and miss those days. I like that the kids were so active and the structure of our weeks (although my husband doesn't remember the weekends as fondly as me - ha!). Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI haven't made braciole in a long time but it was always "gravy meat" at his parents' (and our) house. We didn't just have meat sauce or meat balls/sausage with pasta. Gravy meat included chicken, meatballs, sausage, and braciole. I did just save a recipe for it a week or so ago. I've not had it with a different sauce, though. It was always in the red (spaghetti) sauce. Hunley looks like he is enjoying his birthday ice cream!! Your hubby's fried rice looks delicious!! I just finished getting my new will a couple of weeks ago. Trying to make it easy for my boys to handle things when I'm gone. I sure don't want a crazy probate that takes a year or two to settle. AND... it sounds like Daughter1 and hubby found a house?!
ReplyDeleteThis was an uplifting post and made me feel good reading it
ReplyDeleteLove your sweatshirt and Ireland and the other countries you referenced, too. Oye about the double time at the post office. Happy end of St. Patrick's day to you.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I did not do, was make Lucky Charms bark. You use the cereal, and melted white chocolate, and top it with rainbow sprinkles. You can mix in more marshmallows too.
ReplyDeleteMy attorney told me he learns a lot about who's marriage is destined to fail by how smoothly making a will goes. You're in good shape, I would say!
Cute tops! Your dinner sounds wonderful. Glad you got your will signed. Looks like a lovely day to be outside. Yum, ice cream too! Mark got our taxes done. Sorry about forgetting your wallet. I do not use any of the new methods that are out there for so many things. Fun birthday for your dog. Yum on the grilling too. Looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteMark is a retired CFO of a company and is a CPA by education/training/testing - how ever you want to look at it. He finally did our taxes this weekend. I think this may be the latest he's ever prepared them EXCEPT for one year when we had to pay a LOT (I don't remember why). That year, I think we postmarked them on April 15. The pictures of the pup, ice cream, and kids are great!!!
ReplyDeleteBusy but happy times. And yep writing a will is soooo important. Makes things so much easier for those left behind.
ReplyDeleteYour post made me giggle! I, too, left my wallet at home when I went shopping at Whole Foods last week and I didn't discover this fact until all my groceries had been rung up! The clerk suspended my purchase and my hubby came to my rescue and brought my wallet to me. Of course, both of my daughters asked why I didn't use "Apple Pay." I may need to figure it out! Your hubby's griddle dish looks so yummy - what a great view!
