Welcome to the last Hodgepodge in this merry month of May. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Here we go-
1. Do you like your name? Are you named after someone (grandparent, etc)? If you have children how did you choose their names?I'll have the blueberry pie please. That's a favorite and I make at least one every summer. Hubs birthday is early September and I sometimes make him a blueberry pie instead of a cake for his birthday dessert.
If I were picking something not listed it would be angel food cake topped with strawberries. Red and white. I'll make one of these soon as my daughter1 requests this for her birthday dessert every year and she has one coming up soon.
Fun fact...she has a son turning the age she is in this photo but we won't time travel down that rabbit hole today.
3. What's a job you'd like to try for just one day?
I'd like to check groceries at the supermarket for a day. I can't really explain why this appeals to me, but it's a job I think I'd enjoy. I like grocery shopping and am nosy about what people have in their carts. I'm also picky about the bagging-just ask my hubs.
4. Any patriotic decor in your home currently or coming up this summer?
I've put out some patriotic decor because it's a big year for America and I want to celebrate that. I needed new cushions for my upper deck and went with a patriotic theme. I bought hand towels for the guest bath, patriotic soaps, and I've ordered a candle for my coffee table with a patriotic label.
I mentioned my front door wreath in Monday's post, and I have a patriotic door mat there too. Of course the dock is decked out with a flag and a patriotic wind sock and in general the lake is full of flags flying and people celebrating the freedoms we enjoy.

All the blooming beauty added brightness to the month
Yearning for sunshine as we turn the page to June
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I'd kind of forgotten I wanted to host another Day In The Life link up for anyone who'd like to join the fun. New season, new routines.
Unless you're retired then it's same old same old. Ha! I kid.
Anyway, let's say June 18th. It's a Thursday. Choose a day to keep track of that falls between now and the link up, then hop back here to add your post to the party. If you don't know what I'm talking about here's the 411-
Pick a day and give us the play by play of your life on that day. Some bloggers do their posts by the hour, some by chunks of time, whatever works for you. Most people add photos but that's up to you. If you're like me you need to set the timer on your phone to remind you to take pictures but again, you can do your post in whatever way you like.
I wrote one back in November you can read if you want an idea of how mine looks-A Day In The Life, Autumn 2025
These posts are fun to read and I feel like they're great connectors. Hope to see you there!

I hated my name as a kid-- no one knew how to spell it right (including my father who still often spells it wrong), it was never on any of those name souvenirs, everyone tried to shorten it to "Jo" (which I really hated), and yet I've only ever met/known one other Joanne so I've kind of grown to enjoy its uniqueness. I would forgo every single one of those desserts listed for some version of strawberry shortcake as well-- my favorite is either over angel food cake or pound cake.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a big thing deciding on a name for a child. My girls went years being the only Rebecca and Ellie and now we know loads of people with the same name. I love the sound of your Grandchildren's name, it sounds like a good mix of old and new names.
ReplyDeleteOhh! That is a good job to try! I always like having a nosy what other people have in their carts.
I love all your patriotic décor! The wind sock is so cool!
I have a Day in my Life blog scheduled for the middle of June so I will definitely link up!
It's still raining there? Oh man- our Monday ended up beautiful but then it rained against yesterday and more is in the forecast. I hope your rain ends soon. You guys live in too pretty an area to be kept inside by rain :). Regarding a job you'd like for a day- it's funny because every time I'm in a check out line at the grocery, I'm thankful I'm not a check out person. I think that speaks to my general pessimistic nature. I can see making mistakes and being confused and having a line of disgruntled people impatiently waiting. I loved the questions this week!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of checking out groceries for the day. I know when we check out at the liquor department our clerk will ask us, "oh this looks good, what do you make with this." That would be fun to see what others have in their cart for groceries and liquor.
ReplyDeleteI am going to try to link up for A Day In The Life. :-)
Have a great rest of the week!!
Carla
Love that you will do a Day in the Life again! Angel food cake with strawberries is so good. I started buying strawberries this month and we like to slice them and put a little sugar with them and let them sit and then put that on top of vanilla ice cream. Tom especially loves it. I've been making my strawberry spinach salad or strawberry with Romaine, too. It rained again yesterday all.day.long.
ReplyDeleteI like your collection of red, white and blue ribbons on the wreath. Did you make that bow yourself? (Maybe I should refer back to Monday's post.) Oh I didn't think of choosing an alternative dessert using a combo of the colours! In that case I think I would have a cheesecake with strawberries on top. (AND some ice cream - because I am a little piggy!)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter made it for me. We've looked at purchasing online but find them expensive. We buy our ribbon on sale and she makes the bows. She makes one for her own door too so we can share some of the ribbon which also cuts the cost.
DeleteWell I'm disappointed you didn't share the name of your daughter! :)
ReplyDeleteThe pic is adorable!
Enjoyed reading about your red white and blue!
I have a whole story regarding my name so I guess I'll play along!
My girls both used to blog and they are linked on my sidebar. My oldest has her name in her blog : )
DeleteI will be linking up tomorrow so you will see my responses then but two things: I also chose blueberry pie- it screams summer to me! You are so right about this being such a big year for America with your patriotic decor- by now, during "normal" years, my house would be decked out in the RW and B inside and out but this year it's all about grad decor. You have inspired me though. I think after all of the graduation festivities, I will bring the patriotic decor out- how could I not? :)
ReplyDeleteI loved learning a little more about you today through your answers! This was a fun one to answer. I almost said blueberry pie as well, but I rarely get that treat since nobody else in my family is a fan. I'll get that if I go out and get dessert, though...but that's not often a choice there, either. I love hearing how people are named! That will always be fascinating to me. Thanks for hosting us again, my friend!
ReplyDeleteGreat questions!
ReplyDeleteThis past weekend and even Tuesday has been a complete washout! We have been in a drought, but raining everyday was not good for me.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have some of the grandmothers names passed on down the line. I think I'd enjoy bagging groceries. It is surprising to me when I organize the cold and heavy etc. etc. on the belt and then the bagger totally ignores that order. LOL! As soon as our rain stops and after the window washer comes, I'll put out all the things for the 250th celebration!
ReplyDeleteSorry I entered twice. I didn't even set my time right. Anyway, I loved reading about your girls names. Sweet photo with daughter1 and her birthday cake. That is pretty interesting about checking out groceries. I'd like to be your bagger. I am picky too! I love the patriotic things you purchased. Hope your rain stops soon. Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers. I like the idea of a Day in the Life. I'll give it a try.
ReplyDeleteWe have heavy rains coming at the end of this week and I hope the weather person is correct. We need it so badly!! I've enjoyed reading about everyone's names. Another fun Hodgepodge, Joyce!! Thanks!! xo
ReplyDeleteI didn't say it in my post, but I think I'd like to be a waitress in a busy yet adorable outside cafe...
ReplyDeleteAs you can tell from my post on this question, I love using traditional names. I'm thrilled our son and daughter chose to carry on that tradition for at least another generation. I look forward to joining you for "A Day in the Life" next month. I will try to be faithful to capture special occasions between now and then. Hope D2 enjoys her red & white trifle. You may also want to add a touch of blue as well.
ReplyDeleteI actually went in and fixed my kids names. I know how they got their middle names. I just couldn't think yesterday. Adam is Adam Mark, Mark is Mark Ralph after his dad and James is James Adam. Amber is Amber Rae after my dad Ray.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your answers
ReplyDeleteI like all of your patriotic decor. I need to get something special for July! Thanks for the reminder!!
ReplyDeleteI love that your grands have names that are traditional and honor family members. I'm fascinated by name stories and how people chose names for their kids so this is going to be a fun Hodgepodge as I visit some other bloggers!
ReplyDeleteI really thought about getting a part time job checking groceries when we first moved here. I think I could have enjoyed doing that, except I didn't want to be on my feet for that long . . . and yet I have the option of a standing desk at my office job, and often stand for the full day. Go figure.
Hope you're having a great week!
