Saluting the Wednesday Hodgepodge-Vol 79

Do these short weeks throw anybody else off track? Somehow it's already Wednesday which means the Hodgepodge is rolling around here again. I'm glad you joined the fun today...be sure to add your link to the bottom of my post and include a link back here on your blog so everyone can play along. Here are my answers-

1. What can the average citizen do to honor a military veteran and/or those currently serving?

Fly your flag, say thank you to a veteran, support projects that aid the wounded, vote, and most especially-don't bad mouth America...be proud of America and grateful for the freedoms men and women have died protecting.

2. Besides a flag, what is something you own that is red, white, and blue?

I have a bathing suit that's red white and blue, more nautical than patriotic. I have a pillow with a Union Jack background so that's red, white and blue. There's more I'm sure but those are the two that popped into my head today.

3. Does love really conquer all?

Not as simple as the question seemed at first glance. God's love conquers all...there is nothing too big for Him. Human love on the other hand, is complicated. Love makes us want to commit to another person and I think love is what helps us get over and through the challenges life throws our way. Maybe it would be better to say love and commitment conquer all.

4. Strawberry shortcake or blueberry pie?

These are two of my favorite desserts. I have a really delicious recipe for blueberry pie but shortcake just screams sunshine and summertime. I'd probably pick shortcake.

5. Do you share personal stuff with your hairdresser?

To a degree. I talk a lot and my hairdresser is a captive audience. I took daughter2 for a haircut when she was home recently and I noticed she kept up a running commentary the whole time my stylist was working on her hair. Afterwards my stylist said, 'She's just like you.'

Hmmm....I'm going to take that as a compliment.

6. Does money lead to selfishness?

Sometimes. Other times it leads to great generosity.

7. What piece of furniture in your home most needs replacing or refinishing?

The chair my pup claimed as her own the minute she was big enough to hop up in it. She isn't allowed on the furniture except for that one piece.

It needs recovering in the worst way but there's no point doing that while we have her with us. That chair is her happy place and if I recovered it now I know I wouldn't want her on it.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

The humidity is ridiculous.

  1. I like your answer to the love conquering all. I am in complete agreement with you!

Love the pup picture. I have considered "giving" my dogs a couch, but I fear that they won't be able to learn the difference between what's their's and what's our's.

  6. I really enjoyed reading this post.

The pup looks so comfortable. I hope no one makes her get out of the chair. :-)

My hairdresser and I talk politics. You can imagine what that's like...

  7. I salute you for coming up with interesting, thought-provoking questions each week!

I'll bet hairdressers know pretty much everything about everyone--especially in a small town like ours!

Seeing your pup in the chair makes me think of a story. You know I used to volunteer at our animal shelter. Well, there was a dog named "Tuff" who lived there as "the shelter dog". Tuff loved the black (fake leather) couch in the lobby area of the shelter, and claimed a spot on it. When Tuff died, after several years of living at the shelter, the shelter officer had him buried out back--along with his favorite black couch! Believe it or not!!!

  8. Don't even think of changing out that chair!! Poor baby would have no place to sleep and he looks so peaceful there.

  9. It's hard for me to imagine love (real love vs what often passes for love nowadays) without commitment. But maybe I'm just old fashioned. ha!

Our dogs claimed our couch as theirs, so I lived with the out-dated upholstery because I knew that once it was reupholstered, I wouldn't want them on it any more. Now that they're gone, it's time to get it reupholstered! ;-)

  10. The humidity is ridiculous down here too. But then, it usually is. We're used to it, but that doesn't mean we like it. Birdie is home from Texas with her shedding dog. Who has taken over the plaid chair. Sigh. You realize, of course, that I'm going to have to have some strawberry shortcake today. AND that I'm going to have to make a blueberry cobbler. LOL

  11. I couldn't form those words but that is how I feel about #1. Your so good, Gods love conquers all and human love is complicated! Great answer. Just from the arm of that chair it looks like a pattern/color that was around in the 90's with some pink flowers which we had and a friend of mine had. Always loved it! Sorry about the humidity, it can really drain you. Enjoy the rest of your week.

  13. Perhaps you should share this blueberry pie recipe?

    Hmmm?

    Hmmm?

Hairdressers could probably blackmail a lot of people.

  16. I will never get used to the humidity! Never! I don't understand why people don't run their AC well I get the extra cost but being ocher 40 and overly hot is not a good combination! Love your pup so sweet! Sophie pretty much tries to claim every piece of furniture unsuccessful especially when dad's around! Have a great day!

  17. The picture of your puppy makes me smile. Our doxie has her own leather recliner, if you can believe that! No one sits in it besides her. Yep...she has it made in the shade!
