I've Got The Fe-vah

Hello Spring!

Hey the calendar says so, now we just need our weather to get with the program.

We will not be getting the little red car out of that garage bay anytime soon.

My Japanese red maple.

A casualty of winter.

The wall in my hall foyer.

Another casualty.

For those of you who live where such things never occur, this is the aftermath of ice damming. The gutter over our front porch couldn't hold all the frozen water, and it's gotta go somewhere. Fortunately this is very very minor, and supposedly the repairman is coming this week.

Or next week.

Sometime.  He's coming sometime, and once he repairs the drywall he says he can match the paint, which is a good thing. Painting the foyer (and then the family room, and the up and downstairs halls which all flow together) was not on our spring to-do list.

In other seasonal news, I've started in on my spring cleaning and here are my observations so far-

1. If it felt like spring, this would be a lot more enjoyable. I want to throw open the windows, let the warm soft breeze in, and the stale winter air out. We may hit 50 degrees today, but there's a snowflake icon on the weather page for Tuesday. We'll pretend we don't notice and carry on.

2. My dog. Have mercy. She has hair people.

3. One job leads to another, aka I'm easily distracted. I'm working room by room which is how I like to approach my spring cleaning, but I'm hosting something at my house tomorrow, then overnight guests on Saturday.  I shouldn't let myself get bogged down in things like sorting through the remnants of teenage life tucked inside a shoebox on the floor of my daughter's bedroom closet.

I shouldn't, but I do.

Okay, a million things to tackle today, including an afternoon walk when warm air will be at it's peak. When it comes to spring-like temperatures my motto is carpe diem!

  1. Nothing like having overnight guests to get you in the cleaning mode!

  4. Its warming up some today and is definitely sunny. May be in the 60's tomorrow. But I've heard we've got snow coming next week too.

  5. We actually might be enjoying what might be called Spring like weather for the weekend. Go figure.
The only thing that gets me through the cleaning of the kids rooms is the hope that I might come across a 'treasure' from days gone by. {sigh} That, and maybe some cash. LOL

  6. Oh. And that's exactly how our painting (saga) marathon started!

  7. I think we all have Spring Fever, Joyce! The temps here will rise to the upper 60's today and there isn't a cloud in the sky! Boy, am I ever ready! Hope warmer days head your way soon!

  8. No, this So. California gal has never heard of ice damming, or it's aftermath. At least they can easily fix it (and hey, fresh paint is always a bonus to me) Spring cleaning comes over me every year even though I don't do it like I use to...lol Enjoy your day!

  9. When I got home from DD's, I was all set to dig into some housecleaning, but I had to get ready for my spa appointment ... and I'm sure the urge will be long gone by the time I get back home. ha! Hope that snow melts soon ... and spring arrives in fact as well as on the calendar. ;-)

  10. Oh, my! I don't envy you today. Our temperature is heading toward 75 and our weather icon is full sun. However, in August when the thermometer is showing triple digits, then I'll envy you. Happy first day of Spring!
    Blessings,
    Linda

  11. That poor maple tree. I'm sorry for all the repairs the winter has initiated for you. Hopefully a break in the weather will start soon.

  12. Our Chinese Maple is damage too. It's no Spring here I kinda started Spring cleaning during my 8 weeks of unemployment. My favorite is putting away the winter clothes, hats, boots etc...Happy Spring!

  13. Ewwwww, sorry 'bout the damage from the ice. Having a home, it's always something and it's good to read that the repair work will be minimal.

    Enjoy that walk!!

  14. Gotta say that "white stuff" doesn't look much like Spring, but it will find you very soon. Never heard of "ice damming" - YIKES!!

  15. Oh my, I remember nasty winters and all the worries that go with them. Hope your repairman shows up sooner, rather than later!! Very sad about the beautiful red maple. But Spring is here and the weather will catch up soon!

  16. We are beginning the process of getting new gutters because of ice-damming. We haven't had damage (yet) inside, but our porch and front steps are a mess because of it. Kudos to you for starting your spring cleaning while there is still snow on the ground.

  17. Bless your heart, now I feel bad! We had a sunny day, temps in the mid 70's. Tomorrow's supposed to be even warmer :)

I'd never thought about ice damage, especially to a house, but now that you mention it, I can see how that could happen.

Enjoy your spring cleaning, and take heart, spring is here, so warmer weather will soon follow...

  18. I swear I have ADCD (attention deficit cleaning disorder). I start here, something takes me there, then I forget what I was doing in the first place. Good luck with your spring cleaning. We, at least, have sunshine today, so that's a start!

  19. I know you must be so tired of all of that snow! We had the same thing happen several years with the melting ice draining and leaking back into the wall. UGGG what a mess!

  20. I hope your repairman comes soon and that he can fix it to your satisfaction...including the paint color. I understand about the shoebox. I was trying to empty out my hope chest recently and it took a lot longer than it should have because there were so many memories tucked away inside! Hope your spring is not too far away!!

  21. That is a lot of snow that has to melt! I'm easily distracted too every time I do any housework or project. I went for a walk today with Mark and Skye. Can't wait to keep it up because I definitely need the exercise!

  22. Still looking for spring here as well. I understand the damage winter can cause - our deck is in need of repair mostly because it can't handle the snow load. I hope spring comes soon for all our sakes.

  23. That water damage stinks. I think many of us had weird stuff happen from all this cold & snow this winter. Ugh! The snow is 95% melted here and I am praying the Tuesday storm stays out at sea! Yuck! I long for green grass, warmth and maybe we'll get our boat in the lake by June lol
