A Grand Hodgepodge

Welcome to the Wednesday Hodgepodge! Thanks for your kind comments regarding our new little love. He has already added so much joy to our lives, and we are thoroughly enjoying him.

If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post, then kindly leave a comment for the blogger linking before you today. Here we go-

1. Do you try to set rules for yourself about how you use your time? Explain.

In this season of life my days are mostly my own, but once a rule follower always a rule follower, so yes I do set a few rules when it comes to how I spend my time. I enjoy having a plan for the day. I enjoy putting my head on the pillow at night knowing I didn't waste the gift of another day.

Note-sometimes doing nothing is necessary and in fact there are times in life when doing nothing is just what a body needs, but I absolutely cannot do nothing every day. If I don't have at least a loose agenda I can be lazy and at the end of the day will feel disappointed in myself for wasting time.

I get up about the same time every morning, begin my day with my coffee and my quiet time (on the porch if weather permits, and beside the sliders looking out if it doesn't), go for a swim or take a walk, and then I make a list for the day and/or week so at the end of the day I'm not scratching my head wondering what in the world I did all day, or kicking myself for not being more productive.

Anyone who knows me knows I like rules. And I'm sure my hubs is laughing at the truth of that statement. He is the yin to my yang.

2. Monday was National Lighthouse Day. Have you ever visited a lighthouse? If not, do you have any desire to see one up close? Of the 10 Most Beautiful that made this list which would you most like to see in person-

Lindau Lighthouse (Germany), Fanad Lighthouse (Ireland), Portland Head Light (Maine), Yaquina Bay Light (Oregon) The St. Augustine Light (Florida), Peggys Point Lighthouse (Canada), Start Point Lighthouse (England), Tower of Hercules (Spain), Bass Harbor Head Station (Maine), and White Shoal Light (Michigan)

I've seen a number of lighthouses in person, but only one on the list, The Portland Head Light, which is beautiful. The whole coast of Maine is beautiful. I've also been to the Cape Hatteras lighthouse in NC, and the Hooper Strait Lighthouse which is part of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels Maryland. I'm sure there are more, but those are the two that came to mind. Of the lighthouses listed I'd like to see Fanad Lighthouse in Ireland because the location looks fantastic.

When you've been away, what's your 'lighthouse' telling you you're on the right road home?

The lake. We cross a couple of bridges on the road to our house, and as soon as I catch a glimpse of the water I know I'm home.

3. What have you unintentionally stopped doing? Is this something you need to pick back up and begin again, or is it something you need to let go of for now (or even permanently)?

Dusting. Ha! Sadly, I'm only half kidding, but you have to be home to dust, and this summer we have been away more than we've been home.

It's definitely something I'll pick back up because company is coming and company on the calendar is highly motivating in the housekeeping department.

4. We've had a full week of August. Share a GRAND moment from your month so far.

5. Tell us one song you love with the word 'baby' in the title.

One of my absolute favorite songs sung by one of my all-time favorite groups...Baby I Need your Lovin' by The Four Tops. Levi Stubbs without a doubt had one of the best voices ever.

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

This is all the random I've got at the moment-

And it's awesome.

  3. He certainly is grand! I told you before his birth that being a grandmother would be the best thing ever, and I bet you now agree! I'm not sure what it is, but holding that little one in your arms and knowing that in a very small way, you helped to put him on this earth, fills a grandmother with sheer joy!

  4. I know what you mean about needing to be productive. I'm the same, and have to set rules both in time management and diet. Your little random is the sweetest and cutest little boy. Don't you just love all that hair! The problem with this country is that it's so huge and keeps a grandma farther away than she likes to be. But air travel is a blessing in that regard.

  6. That face. That sweet little face! I know that cloud you're on right now and no, you never have to come down. :) Are Y'all still out there? We're still waiting on Baby R and my daughter is beyond ready at this point. Have a wonderful day!

  8. I don't think anybody will be able to top your grand today or the grand smile on your face! I'm a rules person, too. There were so many good songs with Baby in the title.

  9. Joyce...your precious little grandson is too sweet! I can tell that you're loving every second of being a grandmother with that smile on your face. So very happy for y'all! Loved your answer to #1. Yes, each day is definitely a gift to be treasured.

  10. I think I've liked all kinds of posts here and there, but not sure if I've said congratulations. You look happy!

  11. Again, congratulations on your sweet new grandson. He's so precious.

I can't make myself get on a schedule now that we're retired. I just fly by the seat of my pants unless I have something that HAS to be done. I figure after working 20 years, and raising 3 children, I should be able to do whatever I want, whenever I want to. Ed, on the other hand, has a hard time doing that. He's a "doer" and thinks he has to be doing something all the time!
Baby I Need Your Loving is a good choice. I love that one, as well.
    Enjoy your day,
    Kathy (Reflections)

  17. Oh, that head of hair is soooo cute! We have never had a baby with a head full of hair. I know you will keep Facetime busy when you have to return home. So glad we have such modern technology. Makes the distance a bit more bearable.

  19. Your random and grand moment is awesome indeed! I'm inspired by your answer to #1. I do like the baby song you picked, too. Forgot about that one. Hope that lake gives you comfort when you fly away from that little bundle of precious.

  20. Dusting: it seems I don't have to do it as much now that I live in a humid climate. Colorado, with its dry altitude was more inclined to collect dust.

But mold, now that's something pretty new to me and I'm learning to stay ahead of it!!

Love all the baby photos. He is a real cutie!!

  21. What a cute picture of your grandson! What a full head of hair he has. :) I haven't been as diligent with dusting either. Somehow it seems like there's a lot more of it in the house than I remember. Thanks for doing the Hodgepodge.

  22. One of the great things about being retired is you can change the rules when need be. We have a very loose schedule. One day is pretty much like the next, but we get things done. Have a great week and congratulations on the new grand-young'un.

  27. Oh...that little one is SO precious and what a head of hair he has! That is such a precious photo of you holding him too. Thank goodness for the technology that this day and age brings that allows to stay connected to our far-away loved ones with live video and such....of course nothing can compare to the real thing. Thank you for taking time to bring us the hodgepodge every week, Joyce. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  28. Just a small point that I feel free, as a Nova Scotian, to make: the NS lighthouse mentioned in your list is actually Peggy's COVE Lighthouse.

BTW - congratulations on your new grandson. He IS indeed adorable. ;-)
