Thursday Kind Of Stuff

Remember back when people blogged? There are still loads of people blogging, but it's a quieter platform than when I started eight years ago. Social media has gotten louder (ahem!), but blogging seems to not be altogether sure where it fits these days.

My blog has always been a slice of life, and those are still my favorite blogs to read. Back in the old days (2009) bloggers used to post a lot of lists, particularly on Thursdays because Thirteen Things on a Thursday felt like a thing.

I'm making it a thing again here today because a list feels orderly and manageable and the last day of the month calls for exactly that.

Also, this list won't be all that interesting. Ha! Some things never change in the blogosphere. In no particular order, here are thirteen things on a Thursday-

1. You guys! The most adorable baby boy in the world is one whole entire month old now.

2.  I'm busy planning a trip out west to see
my grandsonsome of the coast and more of the PNW, and as a result I've spent hours on travel sites and travel blogs and Pinterest and wow am I ever easily distracted. I mean the Internet makes distraction easy, but y'all there are so many fabulous things to see in this big wide world.  How will we ever see them all?

3. I wish I could rock the bright red lipstick the way Taylor Swift rocks the bright red lipstick. My coloring (or is it my age???) doesn't seem to complement the bright red. And I know she's not country anymore and she's not fifteen anymore, but I still like Taylor. Have you seen her new video? Yowza! She has not lost her way with words.

4. I recently finished a book I loved-Elinor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman.

5. I've just started reading Beartown by an author whose writing I adore (Frederik Bachman), but am having trouble digging in. I think it's because I know something bad is about to happen, but I don't know what exactly that is or to whom it will happen and I'm mentally unprepared.

6. Hubs has a birthday this week. As per usual it kind of snuck up on me, but I accidentally rallied. We're meeting friends for dinner at a nearby restaurant and I kept adding friends to the reservation and now it feels like a bona fide party. Whoohoo!

7. Hey, remember when Throwback Thursday was a thing too?

Last year on hubs birthday I had a teensy tiny issue with my gall bladder and this year it's my ribs. But don't worry...he's used to me.

8. Here's an updated list of things I'm not allowed to use when hubs is out of the house aka unavailable to drive me to the ER-

knives
step ladders
a chair as a stepladder

I'm sure there's more.

9. We have three birthdays this month, including my own. Is it too early to mention that? Actually we have no birthdays this month and three next month, but in my head it's already September.

10. My Bible Study group is getting ready to begin again after a semi unplanned summer hiatus. We tried to hang in there through June and July, but life and all that nonsense. We're going to try a Jen Wilkin study on 1 Peter this fall, and I've heard great things about it. I am so ready.

11. I'm a little bit excited about all the blank space in my calendar this month. I mean our calendar isn't blank blank, but it is about as blank as we ever get. I am so looking forward to leisurely cups of coffee in my pjs on the porch.

12.  In other house news, hubs and I hung three more pictures on Wednesday. When it comes to home decorating slow and steady wins the race, right?

13. Still the best hair ever-

Still my favorite little man.

  1. You are right, blogging has changed. I started in 2006 and most of the people didn't even know what it was ! There were lots of more themes or games and I also noticed a quite a lot of Bloggers now write on Facebook and gave up their blogs. For me it's not the same. I continue, I like it and it's my hobby too, since I am retired ! What should I do the whole day, household is not my thing !

  3. Wow, that was a FAST month! Moonpie will be 2 months on the second and that Is unbelievable as well!!!
I agree blogging has changed. I used to read multiple blogs a day and now barely anyone posts more than once or twice a week, and 3/4 have given it up completely! I have gotten rusty but hope I continue to document life as a deposit in the memory bank for myself and as a gift to our kids.
    Hooray, it's our birthday month!!

  4. Yes, blogging has definitely changed! I still enjoy reading blogs though. It's part of my morning routine when I sip my tea. Instagram has definitely taken over and I enjoy that too when I need a quick fix of inspiration or if I am waiting in line at the grocery store. I will still continue to blog though. It fulfills my need for creativity and I have connected with so many wonderful people! Enjoy your weekend!

  5. I've neglected my blog horribly this summer, and now I can't get my phone to send pics to my email so I can access them from my lap top...sigh. And what's a blog post without pics? I've got to figure it out. Your little man is adorable. Can't believe it's already been a month. September is my birthday month too 😳 And 4 other family members as well. Busy month of celebrating! Enjoy!

  6. I'm telling you there's just something cuter than cute about a baby with a head full of hair. He's adorable! I know you can't wait to get back out there and love on that little guy. Our least one is 2 today, so we'requickly leaving the baby stage. Happy weekend!

  7. Yes, it's a shame. Blogs used to be the place to chat with friends about the day to day happenings. Now it's vlogging, and Instagram, so much less personal I feel. I love to blog, it's like a journal, a place to talk about things I enjoy, and a place to connect with others who are at the same stage of life.

  8. Did you happen to notice the similarity of the two little boy smiles in the pictures you shared? I know you can't wait to get back out there for a real hands-on treat. And yes, what is happening to blog land? Just not the same. Or is it me?

  9. Baby boy is so darn cute and that hair is the best. So happy to hear you are planning a trip this way. We are headed to Colville to spend time with our little 5 month old! I used to participate in Thursday Thirteen way back when. Blogging is changing and I hope everyone won't give up on it. If you haven't been to Snohomish yet it's a fun day trip with lots of good eats and shopping. Whidbey Island and LaConner are great destinations, too. Dear has a birthday in September, too. Hope all your birthdays are fun!

  10. I started with a website back in the mid-90's. When I quit working I said I was done. A year later I started my blog. I enjoy reading other blogs. refuse to get on Facebook so I will either continue on the blog or quit being 'social'. Many people seem to have short attention spans and no idea how to write so I think tweeting, posting pics, and Facebook suit them just fine.

  12. I certainly don't post often because my life has been boring this year. I still love it and I love the people who still do. I'm glad it has slowed down a little bit because it use to consume my whole day. Mine is a slice of life too and I always thought that someday my grandchildren may know their quirky grandmother in a different way.

I can't believe he is a month old already. He is so darn cute, just look at that face! I am so happy for you and your family. He is the best blessing God has for us.

  13. Hi,
I just finished Beartown. It was not at all like his others, yet, I could not put it down. Let me know your ending thoughts.

  14. I can't believe your little man is already one month old! What does he seem to think of the world thus far? I'm on Day 2 of my 9 Days with Marcy while her parents are in Oregon. I. Am. Exhausted. I'm trudging onward and trying to enjoy every moment I"m not walking around like a zombie. I do know why God gives babies to young people. Truest cliche EVER. LOL Hope the ribs are feeling better. I don't imagine anything is easy right now. Hang in there!

  16. Wow, I can't believe the fellow is already a month old! Time is seriously passing too quickly. Our "baby" (Evan) is almost 4, and started preschool today :(
I keep intending to get back into the blogging routine, but I never do... See ya' tomorrow for The Hodgepodge :)

  17. Love love love your list. I love the blogosphere and like catching up on blogs every morning to see what everyone is up to. I like the slice of life ones - which mine is too. I haven't noticed it has changed since I started my blog, but I know instagram has certainly blossomed.

  18. Oh goodness, such an adorable baby! I started blogging eight years ago too. I think it's still going strong, but things have changed quite a bit and I'm surprised at how many blogs I used to read are no longer in existence.
