Fall In For The Hodgepodge

Welcome to the last of the summertime Hodgepodges for this year. If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a sunny comment for the person linking before you. It's what all good blog neighbors do.

1. What's something you'd rate a 10/10? Tell us why.

That's easy...grandparenting. Why?

Do I really need to explain?

2. What job would you be terrible at? What makes you think so?

Quite a few, but for starters-high rise window washing where you dangle by a thread off the side of a high rise, bridge building where you dangle by a thread over the wide open sea, and flight attendant because there's not enough Dramamine in the world.

3. When did you last take a fall? What's something you're falling for (in a good way) these days?

I think we all know when I last took a fall. One month ago today and I'm still feeling it. Ugh.

Something I'm falling for these days?

Well it's not pumpkin spice lattes. When did we all go crazy for pumpkin? Hubs saw a pumpkin- mustard hotdog condiment the other day. Ewwwwww.

Right now I'm loving real books checked out of the library and Pandora radio where one great song leads to another. Oh and cupcakes. I've been baking cupcakes for all the birthdays round here, and it's rekindled my love affair with baking period.

4. According to the Travel Channel here are some of America's best fall festivals-

National Apple Harvest Festival (near Arendtsville PA, close to Gettysburg), Harvest on the Harbor (Portland Maine), German Village Festival (Columbus Ohio), Wellfleet Oyster Fest (Cape Cod), and Wine and Chile Fiesta (Santa Fe NM)

Have you ever been to any of the festivals listed? Which one appeals to you most? Does your hometown have any sort of fall celebration, and if so will you make it a point to attend?

I haven't been to any of the festivals listed, but they all sound like fun so how do I pick just one? I think I'd go for Harvest on the Harbor because lobster + Maine in the fall sounds like a winning combination to me.

There are a couple of little towns nearby hosting Oktoberfest events, and we've also been to what is known as the Pumpkintown Festival the past couple of years. We love to attend Fall for Greenville which is all about great eating, and we've done that recently too. Most of these fall festival events land in October and our October weekends are already chock-a-block full, so not sure we'll make it to any fall fests this year.

5. What is your goodbye message to summer?

Dear Summer-

You were complicated, but I love you still and am not quite ready to let you go.

Signed-

A fan of bright blue skies, warm weather, and sunshiny days

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Just curious if you took any steps to protect yourself from the Equifax Data Breach? Does anyone use one of the credit monitoring services, and if so are you happy with it?

  1. Look at that happy boy!!!!
I still love library books too. There is something about going to the library, reminds me of the happiness I felt as a little girl getting to check things out <3

  2. I'll admit that I like pumpkin but in small doses. With that said, a few months ago, I made a spaghetti sauce with pureed pumpkin in it. It was absolutely divine!!

By the way, your grandson is absolutely adorable!! I know you miss him.

  3. I really need to look into that Equifax hack. It seems like everything is being hacked anymore. Such a shame... & scary.

Ahhh - yes, grandparenting. You have the cutest little G-babe too!!!

  4. I am not into the Pumpkin Spice thing either! I love pumpkin pie, but that's where it ends! In my opinion, the world has gone mad! I do have several family members that Love Pumpkin Spice, and I fear for their sanity.
    Grandchildren are the best!

  5. Joyce... too funny. We both have the same answer for #2. Great minds think alike!! The baby is sooo cute.

  6. Ok, something strange is going on. I don't know if it's blogger or the user of my computer. Ha! Anyway, one last attempt here at commenting... I use the credit monitoring service provided to us (for free) by the state of SC. The state was breached years ago and we were provided with free service because of it. I think it's CSID. I wouldn't bother otherwise as I just don't have enough for anyone to want it. :) Do you know I have never so much as tasted a pumpkin spice latte? Not one little taste. There are pumpkin things I like but I don't go further than those. As far as decorating goes, though pumpkins are wonderful! I love to look at them- their shapes and colors are delightful. When will Y'all be going back to visit that adorable grandson? Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  10. Grandparenting! Absolutely a 10/10 and you are truly blessed with the most adorable little guy. No, am not even aware of the Equifax Data Breach, but will check it out. We do have a really good computer security program so hopefully we are fine.

  11. Your grandson just melts my heart. He is so darn cute! Love you answer on the job you wouldn't want. Real books are so wonderful. I would imagine with you home by the lake it would be hard to say goodbye to summer. I haven't taken any steps yet but have gotten emails from Norton and LifeLock. We have been members of LifeLock for several years now. They have no specific instructions at this time.

  12. Joyce,

I don't know if we were victims of the Equinox Data Breach but my CC was hacked. Luckily I keep close watch on our activity and caught it in time, disputed the charges, and canceled my card. We do not use any of the services so I can't advise you. It would be good to know this information should we decide to go through one. Right now, we have a free fraud watch service with AAA but that's about it. Being a grandparent sounds like a nice job to have but one that I'm not ready for yet (nor are my children) and hopefully it'll be some time. To all things there's a season. ;) Thanks for hosting the mid-week fun. Blessings to you & yours!

  13. Ahh...what a cutie he is. I agree with the 10/10 for sure. No pumpkin lattes for me. I enjoyed your answers. Sorry you are still feeling the effects of your fall. Ouch.

  14. Well, guess we should be concerned about the Equifax breach but we have done absolutely nothing. Perhaps we should and no we do not use a credit monitoring system and perhaps we should do that too. I'll discuss that with Hubby and see what he thinks.

That little Tommy is soooo cute! I bet lots of Facetiming is going on. Just wait until he's old enough to FT you by himself. It's so fun and so cute!

    Happy mid-week!

  15. I enjoyed your answers today, and OF COURSE you chose that sweet boy as your 10 out of 10!! We have a credit monitoring service associated with our bank accounts and bank. It works so well, we dropped the expensive Life Lock - but we were happy with it too. When offered a free service that works just as well, we would be silly to continue paying for the same.

  16. I agree 100% on the grandparent thing!!! He is absolutely perfect!

  17. I use LifeLock for my credit monitoring service. I'm happy with it. My credit card companies are good at catching fraud as well.

  18. I'd rate that smiling little cutie of yours a 10/10, too!
I'm not a fan of pumpkin spice, either.
I'm afraid I don't have any real advice concerning your random thought, but LifeLock sounds good to me.

  19. Being a grandma is the best! Your little guy is adorable...that big smile and all that hair!
I have to admit I'm one who loves pumpkin-flavored everything. Bring it on!

  20. What a sweet smile your little guy has. So cute!

I would not like being a way up there window washer or bridge builder either. I'm not afraid of heights but I'm very afraid of - and prone to- falling. It wouldn't be a pretty sight.

I am so sorry that the injuries from your fall are still bothering you. Hopefully, they will be a thing of the past very soon!

    Have a blessed week. :)

  21. I knew that first answer of yours before I even read it. O my, he's getting more handsome by the day! I do think they go a little overboard on the pumpkin stuff...although I am a fan of many things pumpkin, some more than others...but that hot dog sounds really gross! I am going to be looking for the pumpkin pecan Special K again this season...it was really good! Thanks for the Hodgepodge!

  22. Awwwww to that sweet baby boy with the big smile. I could never work up high either.

  23. Well the answer to #1 was so easy lol. I'm not a fan of pumpkin either. Thanks for another set of great questions Joyce.

  24. Thank you for another fine Wednesday Hodgepodge. Being a proud grandfather I love seeing pictures of other people's grandchildren and reading about how they have changed/impacted the grandparent's lives. It is a wonderful thing to be blessed with grandchildren.
I could never be a roofer or window washer or those people who maintain windmill power generators. However, I do so love to fly, fixed wing aircraft only please. The rotary winged aircraft (helicopters) are flying death traps in my humble opinion.
    Thanks for stopping by.

  26. Such a fun Hodgepodge this week, Joyce! Thank you for all the wonderful questions, week after week, year after year.

Your grandson is so adorable. Yes, he is most definitely a "10"!!

As for the Equifax thing, Beloved watches all our financial matters very closely; since he retired it's like his new part-time job! He froze our credit lines this week, as a precaution. Of course, we'll have to 'thaw them out' if we need to make a super big purchase. Our companies and banks have been very good about telling us when there's a problem, so no, we don't pay a special service to do that for us.
