Hodgepodge and Sweet Tea

Welcome to the last Hodgepodge of the month. Wow-that was fast! If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger linking before you.

One item of business...there will not be a Wednesday Hodgepodge next week (March 7). We'll be back in action the following week (March 14th). Thanks!

Here we go-

1. Are you currently operating at 100% capacity? If not, what % are you? What's keeping you there?

Oh wow, surely this is not 100%??? What does 100% feel like when you're a few decades past twenty? In my 20's I was almost always operating at 100%, but I am not 20 an.y.more. I'm probably somewhere around 75% right now which isn't bad, but it's not 100% that's for sure.

What's keeping me there? Various aches and pains, middle age and the metabolism to go with, and my neck. If you're still in your 20's that last bit means absolutely nothing, but if you're post-40 you know what I'm talking about.

2.  Have you done your taxes? Planned/booked a summer holiday? Thought about or started your 'spring cleaning'? Besides what's listed here, tell us one task that needs doing before spring rolls around.

We have not 'done' our taxes but we have sent our organizer in to the professionals and once that icky task is completed I kind of feel like they're done. Our portion of the process is pretty much done, other than reviewing, signing, and paying.

We haven't booked a summer holiday because we live on a lake and have a steady stream of houseguests all summer long. Actually all the company does require quite a bit of planning and coordinating dates so I have been keeping up with that. Our calendar is filling up and we're excited to see friends and family for summer fun right here at home. There's boating and swimming and cornhole and cookouts and lots and lots of porch sitting. We try our best to spend summer right here at home and get away during other seasons of the year.

Spring Cleaning? I've started making a list of a few things I want to accomplish, but that's as far as I've gotten. As far as other tasks that need doing, there will be some yard clean up, but hubs has that covered, and we need to have the gutters cleaned so will schedule that soon.

3. What's a favorite food from your part of the country?

From my post title you might be able to guess, but since sweet tea is technically a beverage let's go with another local favorite-shrimp and grits. I'm sure there are people turning up their noses here, but don't knock it til you've tried it. There are a number of variations, but this restaurant's version is definitely one of our favorites.

4. This isn't a leap year, but let's run with it anyway...look before you leap, a leap of faith, grow by leaps and bounds, leap to conclusions, leap at the opportunity...which phrase might best be applied to your life currently (or recently)? Explain.

None of the above really fit. How about 'leap for joy'?

I might not have a summer holiday planned, but I do have a trip to see the mancub coming up soon, and that definitely qualifies.

5. As the month draws to a close list five fun and/or fabulous things (large or small) you noticed or experienced in February.

hiking in shorts! In February! (I wrote about it here)
Winter Olympics on TV
perfectly pink sunrises
waterfalls
lots of time spent with a daughter in the house

6. Insert your own random thought here.

So now that the Olympics are over what's everybody watching?

  1. You're right about shrimp and grits. I don't like grits by themselves, but shrimp and grits I love.

  2. Thanks for hosting! I'm 47, and my neck has hurt for 3 days! I definitely can relate! I can see why you would "leap for joy". That is one precious little guy in the photo. Happy Wednesday.

  3. Jo,

I love shrimp & grits! I was telling DH recently that I need to make some. It's been a long time since I've done it and I'll take your mentioning it as a sign to do it. :) However, I'm not a huge fan of sweet tea. I like drinking hot tea, though. It's been plenty warm here and I had to throw on some shorts a few times last week which is so unlike me in the winter. Now that the Olypmics are done, we resumed streaming various TV shows. Right now, we're catching up on "Zoo". Thanks for hosting the mid-week fun & have a good week!

  4. I don’t know how it happened but we didn’t even watch the Olympics but for just a few minutes. We just neither one were very interested. Weird!

Your little Mancub is so adorable.

  5. You and I were in sync with a couple answers this week--shrimp and grits and I talked about television in my random. :) I didn't watch any of the Olympics but I'm glad they're over and I can get back to watching the few shows I do watch. I'm pretty sure the best way to handle spring cleaning around here would be with a bulldozer. I know you're excited about seeing that grandbaby. He is growing so fast! What a cutie he is. Our little man is heading to Colorado tomorrow with his parents to meet his other grandparents. Of course he came down with an ear infection last week but as of yesterday it was cleared up so they should be fine on the plane. His parents are nervous after seeing that clip last week of the woman who raise a fuss about not wanting to sit next to the crying baby on the plane. I told them that really is not the norm. I hope I'm right. :) Have a wonderful day!

  6. That is a wonderful list there of fun and fabulous. And that baby boy is precious. You know, after reading your 75%, I believe my estimating myself to be operating at 90% would be wrong due to those aches and pains and being way past 40! Thanks for keeping it real!

  7. Oh yes, in answer to your last question, I just finished up with Victoria! Now awaiting Call the Midwife.

  8. Hi Joyce... I hope that you have a great week off!

  9. Sounds like a great summer ahead for you. Have a wonderful time visiting your grandson. He is so darn cute! I forgot to list the Olympics. I loved them and watched every chance I had. I taped it at noon and the evening shows. Actually last night I was rather sad that the games were over.

  10. Ha! I suppose I should of listed coffee for the Seattle area but it's a beverage, too. Yippee for a trip to see the mancub! Ahh, yes, living on a lake will draw a summer crowd. We imposed ourselves on my sister's in-laws once or twice when they lived on a lake in Michigan. Fun times. Your answer to #1 rings a bell for sure. Thanks for the questions, Jo. Oh, we will resume watching things like The Good Doctor, NCIS, etc. Our daughter showed us a show she's been watching on Netflix about selling houses in England, Sarah Beeny's Selling Houses. I can binge on these kinds of shows. Have a good week!

  11. Your little "mancub" is growing and changing at warp speed! He's so cute, too.

I didn't watch any of the Olympics, this year. I tried, one evening, but just couldn't get into them. As for what I'm watching, I've really been enjoying "Navy Seals", along with "The Good Doctor", and "This is Us". I was sad to see "Victoria" end its season :(
    Enjoy your week,
    Kathy (Reflections)

  12. Great questions and answers, Joyce. I enjoyed them!

I so agree with your response to #1 (and I have a couple of decades on you, I think). I guessed I was operating at 75%. Some days it is much more, but most days it feels more like 60%. It averages out, I guess.

And that "mancub" -- could not be more adorable. Glad you have a visit coming up!

  13. All other things can be put into perspective and thought/planned for as long as a trip to see the Grands is priority. I hate to tell you that the whole physical decline mess increases along with the age number. But, as I told someone this morning, "What we do about it depends on how long we want to live and how sick we want to be when we die." Have a great rest of your week and your week away.

  14. Your grandson is a cutie! Love those chubby red cheeks! Have fun on your trip to see him.

We've had some pretty amazing sunrises here in PA, too.

  15. Hi Joyce,
Your little "mancub" is the cutest. I just love that smile.
The TePaske family would like to RSVP a spot on your calendar. A week at your place sounds fantastic!

  16. Oh I think you live a summer holiday on that beautiful lake! :-) Glad you're getting some real face time with that cute little grandson. See you back here week after next. Thanks, Joyce! xo

  17. How in the world did I forget about the Olympics? Good gravy! By the way, your grandson is just ADORABLE!

  18. I love shrimp and I love grits, but I don't think that I've ever had them together and I was born in South Carolina. :)

Your grandson is such a cutie pie! I love the "mancub" nickname. How blessed you all are.

Thank you for the sweet comment on my post. I appreciate it very much. Have a blessed day.

  20. Your grandson is SO adorable - but you already know that! Joyce, I love shrimp and grits. You are right... don't knock it until you've tried it! Thanks for another fun HP!!

  21. Never had shrimp and grits before. But sounds good. And I'm so happy for you that you get to visit with little Tommy soon. He is at such a cute age right now. Enjoy!

  22. I do like shrimp but I've tried grits and no thank you.

  23. I haven't answered your questions in awhile, but this set got me to finally make a doctor's appt to deal with an old hip issue and to plan a vacation for the fall. Hopefully the hip will be at 100% so I can enjoy my trip.

  24. Well I hope you'll be back to 100% soon but it sounds like you have a busy summer ahead but if I lived in your house I wouldn't be going away either - except for the grandbaby of course. I can only imagine how hard it is with them so far away. If I don't see mine for a week it's hard.

  25. Your precious man cub is getting so big and handsome. Unfortunately I truly understand your comment about the aches and pains of middle age. It does not improve with old age. I am motivated to wake up every day just to see what else can hurt. With me it's my knees that hurt. Sometimes it's my shoulder. Sometimes it's my neck when I sleep on it wrong.
Thank you for another Hodgepodge. Enjoy your time away from the Hodgepodge. See you in two weeks.

  26. What are we watching now that the Olympics are over? We record a lot of things and so when we are too tired to talk or read, we check the long list of things we've recorded and stare at that. Hallmark, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, McGiver, Scorpion, Designated Survivor, or some DVD in our collection. Oh and HGTV. Love HGTV.
