Hodgepodge Au Revoir

Welcome to the Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger linking before you. That's the way we've always rolled here on Wednesday mornings.
From this Side of the Pond
1. What has been the highlight of your summer so far?

Our summer has been positively jam packed so it's hard to choose just one highlight. If I have to pick I'll go with celebrating my grandson turning one.

He's just the sweetest y'all.

2. What do you wish you'd done more of this summer? Less of?

More of? Tuesday nights with hubs. If you don't know what I'm talking about read this post.

Less of? Carbs-ha!

3. Something you're looking forward to on your September calendar?

Lots of fun things on our September calendar, including my birthday (and you know how I feel about my birthday), but I'll say the wedding of a friend's daughter. Our girls grew up together in a little Maryland cul-de-sac and I'm excited to celebrate this special day with them.

4. Best/favorite book you've read this summer?

Again with the 'just one' kind of question? A few I really enjoyed were The Shadow Land by Elizabeth Kostova, None Like Him: 10 Ways God Is Different From Us by Jen Wilkin and The Mistresses of Cliveden: Three Centuries of Scandal, Power and Intrigue in an English Stately Home by Natalie Livingston

5. Share something positive, encouraging, or uplifting here.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I've decided to retire the weekly Wednesday Hodgepodge. I've gone back and forth about it, but in the end feel the time has come. When I first started blogging weekly hops were a regular part of everyone's content, but now not so much.

I will likely still do some Hodgepodge style posts from time to time, because let's be honest my whole blog is a bit of a hodgepodge, and I may add a link option to those type posts when I do. I'm kind of still figuring it all out, but I do know I'm ready to let go of the pressure to create, post, and manage weekly questions.

I  have so enjoyed hosting this weekly link up and hope you'll continue to visit here and see what's new. Thank you for sharing your Wednesday mornings with me here on From This Side Of The Pond.

For anyone who may be interested Kate Motaung has posted 31-days of free write prompts for the month of October over on the Five Minute Friday blog. I'm planning to participate and hope to see some of you there.

  1. Hosting a weekly challenge is such a huge commitment and I'm grateful that you have continued this one for so long. I also understand that sometimes we have to put our own needs first, hard as that may be. Well done Joyce. Look forward to keeping up with all your news and activitites though.

  2. You've done an incredible job with the Hodgepodge, Joyce, and we all appreciate it. I hope you get to spend lots of time with that cute little grandson. Your list of books looks interesting. I might see if i can find that last one. Have a wonderful September!

  3. Sorry to see it go, but I subscribe, so I'll be around. I used to do 5-minute Fridays, but when Kate switched her blog format, it seemed really convoluted. I like coming to one blog with one primary post that I can link-up to. I don't do 5-minute Fridays anymore because they just aren't as user-friendly (unless she's changed it since she changed it, but I doubt it).

Enjoy your time with family. I respect your decision. Whenever something you do becomes a chore, it's time to stop. Unless it produces income, then it might just be time to stop and think.

  4. Joyce, thank you for taking the time to write the questions every week. I had so much fun answering them. Enjoy your week.

  5. I have enjoyed participating in the Hodgepodge off and on for years and am sorry to see it go. But, I also completely understand needing to let some things go. I've had to let my own September Challenge go this year because I can't guarantee getting around to everyone with everything going on here. You need to take care of you. And, besides, who wants to be tied to a computer when they have a cute little grandson to ooh and ahh over? You are so blessed. :)

You've done a great job and it has been fun getting peeks into your life each week. I look forward to reading your future posts.

    Have a blessed day. :)

  6. We are sorry to see Hodgepodge go. However, it is easy to understand how there is a great deal of pressure to come up with questions week after week. This type of blogging can be fun, but for the hostess it is a great deal of work. You have done an excellent job. Have a blessed week.

  7. I've thoroughly enjoyed the Hodgepodge and sure will miss it. However, I certainly understand your need to move on. Thank you for all the prompts that have triggered my thoughts when my brain wasn't disciplined enough to come up with anything. You made ordinary things writable! Hmmm. I read None Like Him. I like Jen Wilkins. Your other books sound interesting. Have a great September and fabulous birthday. Will look forward to seeing updates on the big wedding.

  11. Well, Joyce a big thank you for being so faithful for so many years. I certainly understand your stepping away. I am often just overwhelmed with blogging but I so enjoy it and plan to hang in there. That cute birthday boy, hang on because he will be 10 before you turn around twice. Blessings!

  14. What a run, well done! I might find time for the Oct. prompts. Certainly something to strive for anyway. :)
I can't agree more on your Tuesday nights! We often say that after we 'make the time' for a date night.

  15. So sorry to see the Hodgepodge end, but I understand. Hopefully I’ll have time later to link up with this last one. Thank you for thinking up so many good questions over the years and for hosting all of us and bringing us together. I’ll still be around to read your posts. Take care my friend and have a great day.

  16. While you were gone this summer (from the HP) I started a little linky called Black & White Memories. It was fun, but still a commitment and I didn't make up questions for everyone to answer! Thank you for hosting the HP for so many years/weeks!! Glad it's not goodbye!!

  18. Let me repeat myself and also join the others in thanking you for the time you have spent through these years to faithfully provide interesting and often challenging questions. They have never failed to stretch my thinking and sometimes question my priorities. Thank you and I will miss this weekly discipline. However, I am so excited to read of all the happenings in your life and that of your family in the days to come.

  19. Thanks so much, Joyce. The Hodgepodge has been a blessing to me and to many others, I know. I'm following you via email now so I will keep up with your posts.

The video was amazing. I don't believe in luck myself -- I prefer the term "blessed" -- but the song was lovely and so beautifully performed.

Thanks again for all the years of dedication and hard work. I'll look forward to all you'll be sharing in the weeks and months ahead.

  21. Less carbs, we can all use that!!! This year is going by so quickly and you are always so busy and it looks like September will be too. So glad you got to spend time with your grandson. Way to go on reading so many books.

  22. Thanks so much Joyce for all of the work you put into hosting The Hodgepodge. I haven't participated in a long while and haven't blogged in an even longer while. I still visit your blog though and love reading your posts and hearing about your growing family!

  23. Hello from New Hampshire. I am sorry to read about the end of the Wednesday Hodgepodge. I do, however, understand why. All good things do come to an end. The Wednesday Hodgepodge is no exception. There is a finite amount of time that we all have each day and we must choose how to fill that time.
Thank you for the Hodgepodge. I have immensely enjoyed getting to know you through your writings. I have enjoyed being invited into the lives of my fellow hodgepodge participants through their writings. All the best as you turn the page. I will certainly stop by from time to time and say "Hi!"
