Hodgepodge Bells Are Gonna Chime

Welcome to another edition of the Wednesday Hodgepodge. Bet you can't guess what's filling my time, thoughts, and calendar right now-ha! If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post then leave a comment for your neighbor. Here we go-

From this Side of the Pond
1. When were you last a guest at an event or in someone's home? Tell us about it. Do you enjoy having guests in your own home?

We made a weekend visit to see friends  back in September, and I think that was the last time I was a guest in someone's home. We laughed til our sides hurt, had a spontaneous dance party, and were so grateful to be together in person.

Hubs and I gave everyone a hat that matched something about their's ours-

I think my daughter's bridal shower in October was the last event I attended. It was a lovely, special day which I wrote about here. Both of these 'events' were a lot of fun, and felt as safe as anything can feel with a virus still lurking.

We love having guests in our home and look forward to doing that again. Normally my house is a revolving door, at least in the summer months, and I'm hoping we have at least a few houseguests this year.

2. What has you 'tied up in knots' currently or recently? Are you any good at tying actual knots?

Planning a wedding during a pandemic opens the door to a whole lot of knot tying if you let it. We have worked hard to keep that door shut. I've had many people praying about some very specific requests, and I take great comfort in that support. I will not say there haven't been any disappointments because we've had some of those on a fairly grand scale, but I am trusting God for a day that is beautiful in every way.

As far as real knots go...I feel like I do more untangling than I do tying.

3. What's something you've been wanting to do and have decided 2021 will be the year you 'take the plunge'?

Re-do my office. I don't just mean in terms of organization either. I want to put some shiplap on the walls, get rid of my big desk and add a small table instead, have a murphy bed made for the corner, and purchase a new computer.

4. Something in your home that's old? Something new? Something borrowed? Something blue?

old-me? nope...we do have an old classic car here so let's go with that.

new-I have a dress just waiting to be worn. Soon. eek!

borrowed-a portable crib a friend loaned me when the mancub was born. We're still using it from time to time and she'll let me know when she needs it back.

blue-I have quite a few navy blue accents in my home, and my bedroom has a comfy chair and ottoman in a seaglass shade that I love. That particular shade of blue is in the rug and window treatments too. It's restful.

5. Share a favorite quote, a verse of scripture, and/or a bit of wisdom for couples getting married in this challenging and seemingly unpredictable season we're currently/still experiencing.

I wrote a whole series of posts on marriage when my oldest was engaged. It was the theme of my April A-Z challenge that year (2014) and you'll find the first one linked here. Times change, but my feelings about marriage remain pretty much the same...

"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins." 1 Peter 4:8

"Great marriages don't happen by luck or by accident. They are the result of a consistent investment of time, thoughtfulness, forgiveness, affection, prayer, mutual respect, and a rock-solid commitment between a husband and a wife." Dave Willis

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Here comes the bride...

  1. Yep, those hats are perfect for you 2!!! I don't think I've ever seen your hubs' hair that long before! :)
I can't imagine planning a wedding at all, never mind during a pandemic. Here's hoping it all goes smoothly!

  2. Love the hats! Planning a wedding during a who knows what is going to happen with the pandemic would be crazy! Thank you for hosting!

  3. I am sure all of your blog readers, including me, look forward to wedding pictures. Praying for a a beautiful ceremony and a happy marriage.

  4. Joyce... so happy to hear that your daughter is getting married. What an exciting time for you both! Enjoy your week, and as always, thank you for hosting Hodgepodge.

  5. Feels like the wedding is getting close. Exciting times.

  6. Love that photo of you and the bride. Exciting times are coming! Praying all goes as you all want.

  7. What a cute pic of you and the Hubs. And, I am soooo excited for Maggie and her upcoming wedding. I can hardly wait to read all about it. May the Lord's blessings be upon them all their days. She's such a trooper and that's no surprise as "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." I am excited for all of you!

  8. Joyce,

I got a good laugh out of your alls caps. I think if we were to wear these, it would be in reverse. DH is the voice of reason in this family. :D Oh, happy days a wedding! Your baby girl sure is a cutie, too. They grow up so darn fast that it isn't even funny. It seems like a grain of sand in time the days we get to spend with our children before they are out on their own. *sob-sob* Great advice to a married couple. Dave's words capture what I was trying to say with my response. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  9. I'll have to go back and read your series of marriage posts.

  10. The hats are terrific and creative. That last photo is darling. I recently purchased a table to use as a desk. When I was searching, I discovered there was a desk shortage in light of everyone working or schooling from home. I have greatly enjoyed the table I bought.

  11. I cant imagine planning a wedding during the pandemic.
Those hats are awesome - I need those too for me & the Hubs!!!

  12. I love the hats. I can't even imagine planning a safe wedding at this time. True, your house always had company, I never knew how you did it. Seems like you had something going on every weekend. Love your Bible verses. Sweet photo. Wishing you all the best on the big day!

  13. So excited and happy for you all as the wedding draws near! Can't wait to hear all about it. Enjoy :)

  14. Love the hats!I chose the same Bible verse! When love is in the air and it is God's will a pandemic will not stop a beautiful wedding.

  15. Love the hats!I chose the same Bible verse! When love is in the air and it is God's will a pandemic will not stop a beautiful wedding.

  16. What a fun idea for a gift...those matching hats. I'll add that soon to be wedding day to my prayer list. Choose Joy everyone!! Such a sweet photo of you and the bride! We are flying to Arizona today so I'll be catching up with all the hodgepodgers tomorrow. Blessings!

  17. The hats are such a great idea! Gee, I have missed you guys these past several weeks and have even been remiss in reading other blogs. But, that is going to change now that I am no longer maneuvering my way around boxes and actually have a place for my computer. Spurgeon had a statement in this morning's devotional about not being unequally yoked in marriage, but I thought it might be a little late to mention that. LOL! Can't wait to see that new dress on the MOB and the gorgeous bride pictures.

  18. The hats are awesome. I love that bible verse. Good luck on the wedding planning

    1. I will stop by everybody in the next day or so, Just a full plate right now, thank you all for stopping by

  19. I can't imagine trying to plan a wedding right now. You really have to hold the schedules and plans lightly in your hands.

I think that the classic car counts as something old-- and highly valued.

  20. Hi Joyce,
Sending prayers for the wedding plans and the big day!

  21. I book the weddings at our church and I cannot imagine planning one now. I know that all of the brides have been very pleased with even a tiny service so hopefully, things will work out really well for y'all. I definitely think the classic car counts as something old! What kind is it?

  22. I love those hats and also love that last photo of the bride! I hope when the big day is here and a wonderful success that you can share more about the planning and I sure hope there will be lots of photos!! I am excited for you all!! xo

  23. Good Luck planning the wedding. Nice hats.

  24. The last time I was at a wedding was when my classmate of my painting course married, after 23 years of living together and as she is 10 years older than her husband they married for heritage purposes. It was the funniest marriage I ever attended in my whole life ! The groom had forgotten the vest of his suit and both had no wedding rings, they were given two rings from friends ! It was a civil marriage and the even the marriage registrar had a red face from laughing when he read the text they had written not to speak of all the guests ! Nothing romantic but very funny ! After that they had organized a buffet in a restaurant !

  25. Those hats are adorable. Perfect mementos from what sounds like a delightful weekend. We are way overdue for one of those.

I know you busy with wedding plans. Praying that the hiccups only open doors to new and better possibilities.

    The bride is adorable!

  26. Your hats are great! That's a great gift idea.

I used to have people come and go when we lived in our first home. I was a SAHM and had the time to entertain. When we moved to a bigger and nicer home I went back to work and now the only people who visit are family. Oh well, I still love it when they come!
