Lucky You! It's The Hodgepodge

Luckily we are still Hodgepodging here on Wednesdays. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post. And be sure to leave a comment for the blogger lucky enough to be on the list before you. Here we go-

From this Side of the Pond

1. This week's Hodgepodge lands on St. Patrick's Day. Will you wear green? Eat corned beef and cabbage? Drink green beer? Have you ever been to Ireland? Is it on your travel 'bucket list'?

I will wear green because why not? I like green, it's one of my favorite colors. I bought a small corned beef so will cook that along with the traditional sides of cabbage and red potatoes. No green beer for me as beer is not my beverage of choice.

I have never been to Ireland which seems crazy because we lived in a neighboring country. Hubs has been a few times for work, but sadly I was never able to accompany him. It's definitely on my travel bucket list though.

Are we still allowed to have travel bucket lists or does that seem like the impossible dream right now?

2. Something you think is 'worth its weight in gold'?

As much as I struggle with and rail against it I'm going to say technology. The ability to Facetime my daughter and grandsons half a world away is worth it's weight in gold. And even though I think we're all weary of dialing in to those Zoom calls, meetings, classes, and happy hours versus the real thing, this year would have been so much lonelier without our favorite familiar faces on a screen.

3. Something that makes you 'green around the gills'?

Boating. Standing for too long on a dock that rocks and rolls. Roller coasters that rock and roll. Rides that spin and spin and spin. Also planes, trains, and automobiles on winding roads. Sometimes straight roads too.

I think  you get the picture.

Yes we have a boat. And I fly and drive and do all the things, but I also take my dramamine, wear my 'bands' and have an escape plan for getting to solid ground whenever possible. I'm lots of fun-ha!

4. What puts a 'spring in your step' these days?

My people. We'll be seeing the newlyweds in person in just a few weeks and the South Korea crew returns stateside this summer. Just thinking about it puts a spring in my step.

5. Write a limerick using one of the following as your theme....March, St. Patrick's Day, Covid, 2020 and/or 2021, the color green, or life lately. Yes, you can do it.

An ode to the year that was...

There once was a virus so strange
Our lives it did rearrange
We sheltered in place
Wore a mask on our face
And longed for the day things would change

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Because today calls for a splash of green-

Happy St. Patrick's Day Hodgepodgers...and all who read here too!

  1. Joyce,

Your limerick is great! Oh, I'm green with envy now. lol I tried cooking corned beef a few years ago and it didn't turn out good. The meat was too grisly and sort of rubbery textured. It was my first attempt, so I probably didn't choose a good quality and/or my cooking instructions weren't appropriate. I may have to give it another try. Not this year, though. FaceTime puts us closer to those far away. I'm thankful for modern technology that bridges the space between us and those we love. Have a good day and thanks for hosting, my friend! ;)

    1. Try cooking it in the CrockPot, super easy.

  2. I forgot about all the technology....maybe because I use it so much now I have taken it for granted! I guess I am lucky, I don't get sick from mountain car rides (daughter does), love riding roller coasters (hub hated it), I am ok on these things.
I know you are thrilled about seeing your daughters!

  4. Great post, Joyce, love your limerick. Yes, I vote for technology too. It has certainly bridged our gap across the Pacific.

  5. That traveling bucket list is in jeopardy for sure. Oye! So sad. Your limerick is great! Yes to your answer to #4! Look at you in your green kayak. Nice. The corned beef we had last night at our son's home was real good. InstaPot variety. Happy almost Spring (Saturday!)

  6. I didn't answer the same way but definitely agree - what would we have done without zoom and facetime this year?? I can ride roller coasters but I get motion sick at the drop of a hat. I can't even wear sunglasses because they distort my vision just enough that it makes me motion sick! When I fly long flights (like to Tel Aviv), I take a "car sick cocktail." That is what my doctor called it! I take an Ativan and a Dramamine (one the night before and one an hour before we leave). I usually wear the wrist bands, too. It does help.

Here's hoping we can all mark one place off our travel bucket list this summer!

  10. I like green but I don't wear green. I like the two walls we painted along with the fireplace in our family room. Enjoy your meal today. I agree with you with Facetime. What a blessing for you. Sorry about your issues with the boat. Definitely your people put a spring in your step. Your limerick is awesome!

  11. Good job on the limerick! Fun little challenge for us today on the Hodgepodge.

Technology does have its positive sides I've found especially in these past months.

  12. Great job with your limerick. :-)
Guess what, I just got a kayak last week. It is dark green. I cannot wait for the ice to go out on the lakes.
Do you have any suggestions for a comfortable kayaking life-jacket? I have one picked out from LL Bean.

  14. I can't believe it we never made it to Ireland- maybe someday! Our "green around the gills" answers were awfully similar- like mother like daughter! Can't wait to see you soon momma!

  15. I think you have to wait for a while to go to Ireland or even to an European country ! Most of the borders are closed and you have to have a proof that you are vaccinated ! Even I can't go to Amsterdam the borders are closed. I don't like green in general only in nature. Green looks awful on me I would look green too !

  16. I cooked up corned beef and cabbage too with some roasted potatoes, asparagus and carrots; but none of us drink beer.

  17. Not a great fan of corned beef but I used to make corned beef hash when the kids were little and we all loved it. Really surprised that you get seasick but you seem to cope pretty well! Green is definitely not one of my favourite colours but we have been to Ireland a couple of times. Beautiful place but be prepared for all weathers lol.

  18. You win the prize for the best limerick hands down. I feel your excitement in finally having all your bunch at least in the same continent. I do see lots of travel in your future.
