A Hodgepodge Salad

Welcome to this week's edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Here we go-

1. February is coming to a close. Give us a two-word phrase that tells us something about how yours went.

Baby love

2. If you had to describe how you're feeling right now as an amusement park ride, what ride are you on? Explain.

I'm going with Thunder Mountain Railroad which is a roller coaster, but without the super big dips, drops, and rolls. It's described as a train racing down a track, bumpy in places, but the main thing is it's fast, which is how life seems to be moving here in 2024.

3. What's something on your desk or a nearby wall that cheers you up when you see it or walk past?

For Christmas every year our girls make us a calendar with pictures of the grands from the year that was. My frig cannot hold a magnet so I have the calendar on a 3M hook on the side of the frig.

I see it many times a day as I open and close the frig, or just work in the kitchen, and it never fails to make me smile. I look forward to flipping the page to a new month this Friday.

4.  Are you a salad eater? How many salads do you typically eat in a week? Your favorite kind of salad?

I love a salad, almost any combo of veggies (love a fruit salad too!), and I eat one pretty much every day, if not for lunch then with my dinner. I love a true Cesar but mostly eat some sort of 'garden salad' with whatever I have on hand. Oftentimes for lunch I make a salad and sprinkle a little cheese and maybe some ham or turkey to add protein, or I add a hard boiled egg. It makes a satisfying lunch, filling without a lot of calories. I do not like a lot of dressing on my salad and sometimes eat it without any dressing at all.

5. Without telling us the category give us your top five ______________.

How Great Thou Art
This Is My Father's World
Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
Crown Him With Many Crowns
Great Is Thy Faithfulness

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Today is my son-in-law's birthday so happy birthday to him! Next week my other son-in-law will celebrate his birthday, and what a gift these two men are to our family. Throwing it back to when they joined the party here-

January, 2021

January, 2015

They're wonderful fathers, husbands, sons, brothers, and friends. Hard-working, even-tempered, dependable, and lots of fun. We're so grateful to their parents for raising them to be the men they are, and we absolutely love the way they've grown our family and care for our girls.

  1. Oooh, I forgot about adding hard boiled eggs to a salad; I love those too! I brought one with me to work today. Yum.

  2. Happy Birthday to your handsome sons-in-law! My DIL used to gift those photo calendars to the parents and grands ... inexpensive and so thoughtful, too!

  3. Such a wonderful blessing for your whole family to have these young men with integrity as the husbands of your girls and son in law's for you. Happiest of birthdays to them. Those calendars are the best. We look forward to ours every Christmas! I'm singing through your 5! Wonderful words of truth in those hymns. Happy end of February to you!

  4. Great post! I guess we weren't supposed to add the category to #5 after all!

  5. Baby love is the best! True, life is moving very fast these days. I love the calendar. What a great gift. Good for you on eating so many salads. I definitely need to do more of that. Beautiful songs. Happy Birthday to your son in laws. Your girls are blessed. Enjoy the rest of your week.

  6. Love your 2 word phrase. Congrats!!

  7. Pictures make me happy, and I have them everywhere. I like your song choices. I learned those in the Methodist church I grew up in. Happy birthday to your son in laws!

  8. I love your top five list!! My son and daughter-in-law make a similar calendar for Mark's mom every year. I think it is such a sweet gift.

  9. Same with the salads; I have yet to find one I don't like and I often eat a tossed salad for lunch and another small one with dinner. We make our parents calendars like that each Christmas too but the last two years have been really tough; teens are nearly so willing to be IN photos as little tykes are.

  10. Time is really going fast! I don't really like it, but I guess we can't do anything about it. lol

  11. Pretty easy questions for me to answer today, things are pretty average with me, life is a merry go round aka carousel, I have lots of photos around me that make me happy and I don't eat salads.

We all long to not be forgotten when we pass but sadly so many of us will be just that forgotten if not straight away over time , it is part of the cycle of life and death.

  12. The calendar is such a wonderful gift, and it must make you happy to see it multiple times each day. I love your list of hymns!

  13. Baby love... of course!! Salads full of everything are always so good! Happy birthday to your boys!!

  14. Oh, your top 5 brings back so many memories for me and I know the words to every one of them. This was a fun HP and thanks for always "showing up."

  15. Pictures of loved ones are what makes me smile too. Your calendar is precious, and so are the wedding photos. :-)

  16. Happy birthday to your son-in-laws.. and that calendar made me smile too so I am sure it evokes the best feelings for you always.. Loved trying out #5

  17. Love your list of hymns, and happy birthday to your wonderful sons-in-law! Photo calendars are wonderful and we've found they make great gifts for teenage grands, who enjoy every page. Even ones with older photos of themselves!

  18. Your answers to the Hodgepodge are enjoyable but I especially love the tribute to your sons-in-law. They are very good men. It has been clear in your blog posts over the years how much they have blessed your daughters and families.

  19. I liked your answers. I used to do calendars for my mom and dad for quite a few years.

  20. I love seeing pictures of your grandbabies! What a great idea for your girls to do calendars.
