The Hodgepodge Springs To Mind

Happy Spring, and welcome to this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions, add your link at the end of my post, then hop over and leave a comment for your neighbor there. Here we go-

From this Side of the Pond
1. Spring is officially upon us, no matter what the weather may be in your neck of the woods. Is there any 'spring cleaning' on your to-do list? What's your most dreaded task?

Absolutely. We've had people coming and going (including us) since Thanksgiving, and the house is definitely in need of a thorough cleaning, spring or otherwise. I'm working my way through a few small tasks like emptying and reorganizing the pantry and sorting and wiping out all the kitchen drawers, but we have miles to go. We'll get it done in pieces because that's how we roll.

My most dreaded task? I'd say the windows but we'll either hire out or hubs will tackle that job himself. Every bit of woodwork needs wiping down and that's a back breaker so I'm going to say the woodwork.

2. What's something many people seem to love, but to you feels like 'watching the grass grow'?

Animated television programming for adults (Family Guy, South Park, The Simpsons, etc)

3. Mint grows in abundance during the spring season. Are you a fan? What's your favorite food with a 'minty' flavor?

Mint is not a flavor I seek out, and I like it only in small doses and only in certain food and drink. My favorite? A Pimms cup on a warm summer day.

4. It's been said, 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder.' Agree or disagree? Explain.

It might be true. The opposite might also be true. It really depends on the relationship. A strong, solid relationship can survive distance and even grow during time spent apart. If the relationship is struggling though, distance is likely not going to help things improve.

5. Are there any festive spring events in your city or town? If so, will you take advantage of them?

There's live music on a downtown street that runs spring-early autumn in our little town. That kicks off next week and we may check it out. The botanical garden at the nearby university has a plant sale in the spring and I'd like to make a stop there. There's college baseball and we enjoy going to games so hopefully can make that happen this year. A few towns near to us have 'Spring Flings' but we don't have any plans to attend.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Remember when I used to blog? Ha! I'm thinking about jumping in to the April A-Z challenge this year, although that's as far as I've gotten in terms of 'planning'. It's been a good way in years past, to kick start my sleepy blog, so here's hoping that holds true this year too.

Sign ups open on March 25th. If you participate let me know and I'll look for you there.

You'll find the A-Z challenge FAQ page in the link here

  1. I love the April A to Z Blog Challenge and have participated several different years. I don't think I can squeeze in one more thing to write/read/do. Great answer about animated adult shows. I don't particularly like those either.

  2. I really should do the AtoZ challenge, just to stay busy!

  3. Haha...I just noticed I completely ignored all the other Spring cleaning that needs to be done except for the dreaded one which we hire out. I've never had a Pimms.
    Happy Spring to you!

  4. I'm thinking about the A to Z as well this year, it's been a few years since I last participated. I'm with you on the animated television for adults - ugh! Thanks for hosting the Hodgepodge.

  5. Way to go on doing Spring cleaning! Yes, windows are the worst. I agree, I never watch those shows. I agree with your answer on absence makes the heart grow fonder. Enjoy your towns festivities. Enjoy the rest of your week. Thanks or the questions.

  6. Before we moved here, I assumed that there would be so much to see and do in the Dallas/Ft Worth area, and we anticipated exciting day road trips. That hasn't been the case. Sure there is a lot going on, but not like where you live. We would first have to endure 6-8 lanes of heavy traffic to just get out of town, then drive 4-8 hours to get anywhere. There are very few "day trip" options, which has been very disappointing. I would love to go see the bluebonnets and Indian Sage along the highways this spring though.

  7. Hmmm ... I may check out that April A to Z challenge. So says the blogger who can barely manage once a week, in a month that's already looking busy!

Thanks for the Hodgepodge! I wasn't able to join in this week, but I do enjoy visiting.

  8. I just read Libby's comment above and have to agree about the Houston area. Traffic and crowds have gotten so bad in our area. I feel like such a party pooper, but the festivals etc downtown don't seem worth the hassle. I enjoy reading your blog, no matter how often you are able to post!

  9. I don't seek out mint either. But those Girl Scouts Thin Mints I can't get enough of.
You must have 2 stories or a lot of windows to even consider hiring out. I like clean windows so in a sick way, I enjoy keeping them clean but our home is small and it's easy to keep up, especially now that we're getting older.
I'm doing the A-Z this year after several years of sitting it out. I always do it on my Genealogy blog. Here's my theme reveal post.

I am posting now - and scheduling them.
I look forward to seeing your blog on the list.

  11. I always enjoy reading the A-Z challenge posts but have never been motivated to give it a try. I post 7 days a week, anyway. I need to sort my pantry again. It never stays organized for some reason... like me just putting things in there in no order at all. Ha. Thanks for another fun Hodgepodge, Joyce. Hugs!

  12. I have never done spring cleaning and the one task I hate is cleaning the oven.

Cricket mostly but sport in general.

I do like mint most things like choc mint ice cream or mint chocolate.

A short absence may do that, but I am really not sure.
The beautiful spring has arrived (but not for me)and when nature resumes her loveliness the human soul is apt to revive also.

  13. I like your answer to #4 and it's quite similar to how I tried to answer. I'm considering the A-Z blogging challenge. I missed Write 28 Days this year, but also I don't have a lot of time, so I don't want to set myself up for failure!

  14. I'll have to look into the April challenge. I have run out of things to blog about!

  15. I like to visit botanical gardens. No spring cleaning yet, but I did go a bit gardening today. It is nice and sunny, in the low 70's. Then I have to dust under the piano. :(

  16. I agree with your #4 answer for sure.
