Hello Hodgepodgers (and everyone else too)! If you've answered today's questions, add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Here we go-
1. What's a task you do on a regular (or semi-regular basis) that feels like it should be an Olympic event?2. What's in the trunk of your car right now?
In general the trunk of my car stays pretty tidy. Currently it holds my canvas grocery bags and not a lot else. I mean it has the spare and whatever tools would be needed under cover, but as far as what you see when you open the trunk it's just bags.
3. Summer foods vs. fall foods...which do you prefer?
I love seasonal food and I like the way menus change right along with the seasons. My answer is both.
Would you rather-watermelon or caramel apple? watermelon iced coffee or pumpkin spiced latte? iced coffee potato salad or sweet potato casserole? sweet potato casserole barbecued ribs or roast turkey? roast turkey ice cream sandwich or apple pie? ice cream sandwich but it's a close call corn on the cob or candy corn? corn on the cob
My choices confirm my love of both fall and summer when it comes to food. I opted for some of each in my answers.
4. August 7th is National Lighthouse Day. Have you visited any lighthouses? Do you have a favorite? Is a lighthouse something you seek out if you're visiting an area known for theirs?
I've visited a lot of lighthouses and enjoy seeing them up close and from the water too. We don't plan trips around them, but if there's a lighthouse in or near our path when we're traveling, we will for sure check it out.
Not sure I have a favorite, but the Portland Head Lamp in Cape Elizabeth Maine ranks right up there.
5. Light at the end of the tunnel, out like a light, give the green light, a lightbulb moment, in a new light, in the limelight...of the 'light' idioms listed which applies in some way to your life lately? Explain.
I'm going with 'give the green light' as we recently signed a contract with a stone and landscaping company for our backyard project. I sat on the yellow light for a while, but hubs convinced me to step on the gas and it's happening.
Not this week though. Apparently they have to load the materials on the barge this week and we'll start next week. Yes, they are bringing materials by way of water. I think I told you I was overruled on keeping it small.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Hubs and I were in Tennessee last weekend and attended church in the sanctuary we were married in 40 years ago this past June.
40 years and 51 days to be precise.
There's a picture in our wedding album of hubs and I standing in front of a pretty arched doorway and we decided an updated picture should happen.
We snagged the youth pastor to snap a photo as we were leaving and he obliged-

Hi Joyce, that is a really nice picture of you in front of the lighthouse! I also like how you recreated the door scene. You are right, things don't have to be perfect. We wanted to go back to the Del Coronado-San Diego for our anniversary, but it is way too expensive now. We are putting that money towards a cruise in January. Enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute photo re-creation! I bet the kids loved it! Another fun hodgepodge! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAwww, great photos from the past and present! I featured that same lighthouse! So picturesque! Your backyard project sounds nice. Do you not need permits to make big changes? Maybe that´s a suburban thing? We are doing a project in the backyard that is pretty big in scope. Everything is taking so long. Getting permits for the structure (a roofed patio, basically) will take a while for us, I´m afraid.
ReplyDeleteLove the past and present photo of you guys!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your anniversary, and I love the recreation of the photo!! I thought about changing the sheets as my Olympic event, maybe I should have said turning the mattress which we did just a few days ago! That's a workout! Portland Head is an iconic lighthouse I hope to visit one day.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome you went back to the church; the place we got married is an outdoor venue literally right outside our neighborhood and we never go. LOL. Maybe the proximity makes it less appealing somehow. Anyway, thanks for hosting, as always.
ReplyDeleteLove that before and after photo! Glad you though of it. Oh...that project sounds amazing. I'm guessing you already have the before photos so we can see the transformation. Love the lighthouse photo, too. Enjoy the peace and quiet before that barge docks!
ReplyDeleteLove the past and present photo, what a cleaver idea! Always so fun to participate in the HP. Thanks for always showing up.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh yes! That new deep king size mattress makes making the bed so hard! I like seasonal foods and the changing of them as well; and my answers to the food questions would show a mix of both too. We often see lighthouses living in New England they seem to be dotted all over. Some of my favorites include the Nubble Lighthouse in York Maine, the Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown Rhode Island, Bass Harbor Lighthouse in Acadia/Bar Harbor Maine... and we have some rather hilarious stories about the Sakonnet Lighthouse in Newport Rhode Island that my husband was hired to build some platforms for when they were restoring it... let's just say they left quite a few tools behind at the bottom of the ocean once they were pulled out of the water...
ReplyDeleteI should have also said changing the sheets on our king size bed. It definitely is a two-person job and one we both dread. Love the pictures of the two of you and those doors are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI said our bed too. We have a California King. Our answers are pretty much the same on the food also. Hooray for signing with a company to do your project. That is interesting that they will bring the supplies by water. How awesome to stop at the church and take that lovely photo. Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteGood answer on the Olympic sport -- changing king sized sheets is a job indeed. It is even crazier when I was the duvet cover. I have finally mastered the burrito roll but I am always sweating when I finish!!
ReplyDeleteWhat great "Then and Now" photos! Frame-worthy!
ReplyDeleteI think changing king-size bedding should quality as cardio exercise.
Hi... I should have said changing sheets. But because I have been doing a lot of dishes, dishes it is. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of you both... and your sweet thoughts you shared about marriage. A sense of humor indeed.
xx oo
Carla
Funny, I picked Portland Head Light as one of my favorite lighthouses too. And my food answers also reflected both summer and fall choices. Loved all of your answers and the photos and I agree -- forty should be celebrated all year. We've been celebrating fifty all year!
ReplyDeleteBoth pictures are great! I also love your photo in front of the lighthouse. Thanks for the questions this week, they were a lot of fun! Hope you have a good rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteI like your remake photo!
ReplyDeleteChanging sheets was the first thing that came to my mind too! Not a favorite for me.
What a lovely photo of you and your husband! How exciting about the big landscaping project coming up.
ReplyDeleteI love the photo recreation! Thanks for the fun link up!
ReplyDeleteHell, yeah making a bed is a task and a half, even with help.
ReplyDeleteThe boot of our car is full of stuff much of it junk
I have never visited a lighthouse but would love to do so
There must be a light at the end of a tunnel
I like the photo of you and hubby
What a fun photo remake...and such a pretty wedding photo! Our wedding photos were one thing that certainly did not go as planned. I could have used a bit more of sense of humor make then. Can laugh now but I did not then!! And I am with you on changing the sheets! I usually ask for help:)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on changing the bed sheets. We ended up with a California King mattress (not the original plan, but that’s another story) and yes, we change the sheets together.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the wedding anniversary. You are soooo right in saying, “… maintaining a sense of humor is key …” The re-pose photo taken at the church is so sweet.
Forty years should most definitely be celebrated all year!! That church must be beautiful, based on that lovely, ornate door. Great pictures!! I agree on the king size bed sheets. Joe and I used to do it and now it is like an Olympic event with me running from corner to corner and back again a couple of times. Thanks for the fun Hodgepodge!! xo
ReplyDelete40 years is not bad ! We made it to 54 and then he left me forever ! Only your hair color has changed (lol) I had to laugh about your battle with the bed sheet on your Kingsize bed ! We had two mattresses that was easier ! My son had to have a special bed because he measures 2 m = 6.6 ft ....
ReplyDeleteWow, that is such a cute photo. Great answers.
ReplyDeleteOh my..yes...changing sheets is a pain. We have a wall bed also, and that is not easy to change. I shared the Portland lighthouse too. Happy Late anniversary! Love the photos.
