Welcome to the last Wednesday Hodgepodge of the month. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, and don't forget to leave a comment for your neighbor there before you run off. Here we go-
1. What is one cliche you think is nonsense? What's one you think holds truth?Sometimes a good cry over something that has already happened and cannot be changed is actually very useful. It's a release of emotion that when spilled often leaves us feeling better about whatever it was that upset us.
2. What's the last thing you broke and how did it happen?
I can't think of anything small I've accidentally broken or something here at home that's been broken due to clumsiness. It's been almost two years now, but I'm going to have to say my elbow, which was definitely accidental and only partially due to clumsiness.
We were on vacation in California, driving up the coast from San Diego to Half Moon Bay for a wedding. Fortunately we were nearing the end of our trip because besides my elbow I also broke my glasses and that was a problem too. I wrote about the whole thing here-Going Coastal
3. Are you a fan of s'mores? Have you had a s'more this summer? Last thing you ate that you wanted to ask for 's'more of'?
I don't know if I'd go so far as to say I'm a fan, but I like them okay. We invited some neighbors over one night back in early summer, it might have even still been spring, and had s'mores around the firepit. We don't do a lot of fires here in the summer months because it's too hot.
4. A mode of transportation you've never tried? Will you someday?
A hot air balloon. I'm not planning on it, but never say never.
5. Believe it or not, next week's Hodgepodge lands in a brand new month. What's your happiest memory from the month we're bidding adieu?
It's been a pretty nice month here, busy with all the projects happening, but lots of nice moments too. I don't know if this one is my happiest, but it's definitely a favorite. I finally got the painters here and had one of the guest suite bathrooms painted and the water closet wallpapered. First up a couple of before shots...
It's not an easy room to photograph because it's an L-shape, with a doorway from the guest bedroom on one end, and a door to the hall on the other.
All the walls in my house are this color, a very livable neutral from Sherwin Williams called Canvas Tan. Because of the lake we have a lot of windows, so there's a lot going on without adding anything too busy to the walls.
While I'll stick with mostly neutrals, a pop of color here and there feels right, and the new wall color is a pretty blue, which looks a little gray in the photos but is definitely blue in person-
We brightened up the trim too, as a test to see if we might want to repaint all the trim a brighter white. My upstairs trim is stained but the lower level is paint.
This is the water closet and we added wallpaper in there-
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I'm sure you do too.
Happy Wednesday!

I agree with that saying and the fact that a good cry can help. It usually results in a headache and puffy eyes for me now, though. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteThe bath looks nice! Sorry about your elbow and glasses on that trip!
Your guest bathroom is pretty! It would be super hard to pick out wallpaper; paint color is hard enough. You did a good job picking out yours. Breaking your elbow far from home sounds... not fun. I have a fear of being injured while not at home. Though my bodily break happened at home so I guess my wish of the preferred site for an accident came true, lol. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the questions! I used the "mode of transportation" one last night with our group of young adults. Everyone worked hard to come up with a different answer! My husband's was that he had never traveled by elephant!! He reminded everyone that people do travel by elephant in other countries!!
ReplyDeleteYou and I answered the first part of #1 the exact same! How funny. I love your new guest bathroom! I love wallpaper so much, and I agree about pops of color with all the windows and water views you have going on. I love how a fresh coat of paint makes everything look!
ReplyDeleteThe bathroom is lovely! I really like the mirror. And yes, I agree with your #1; sometimes you have to cry to move on.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I love the mirrors. My decorator found them-there are two, but you can't see the other sink in the pics.
DeleteThe new guest bath refresh looks great!
ReplyDeleteThe guest bath looks very nice and I love the new color. Ouch, I remember your California trip and that mishap. Time flies for sure. Hope the end of August brings lots of progress on your outdoor project!!
ReplyDeleteThe spilt milk is a great one. You elbow was a tough one for you. That sounds like it was fun with your neighbors. I might try a hot air balloon if it was attached and not going anyway, just to see the view. The bathroom is beautiful. I like the wallpaper. Happy Wednesday to you too!
ReplyDeleteHot air balloon! I didn't think of that one. Love your bathroom refresh.
ReplyDeleteLove the new paint, wallpaper and reframed print. So very pretty. I'm not sure I could ever work up the courage to do a hot air balloon, but I've often thought I'd like to. Have a great day Joyce and thanks for the Hodgepodge.
ReplyDeleteYour bathroom remodel is lovely! I definitely think time flies when we're having fun... sometimes far too fast for my liking.
ReplyDeleteThe painting looks nice and fresh!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child at some event in our town they had a hot air balloon you could get in and go up. It had ropes to attaach it to the ground. I feel like I did it but honestly can't remember for sure!
Lovely remodel!! And I don't think a hotair balloon would be for me. I did not even think of that one!! And a broken elbow - yikes!! That sounds so painful! Thanks for the link-up. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteJoyce, you have such a classy style of home decor. Really nice.
ReplyDeleteAs for crying, I am a firm believer that crying rids one of accumulated toxins (real or psychological) that when released, is a big help in maintaining (or returning to) sanity. I also have recently come up with the idea that some people smoke to deal with stress. I cry.
The bathroom looks good and there is no way you will get me into a hot air balloon
ReplyDeleteI love the paint color and wallpaper! I also said a hot air balloon :)
ReplyDeleteTime sure flies when having fun; too fast for me! Love your new paint/remodel job.
ReplyDeleteI remember my grandson crying because he spilt something, and I said that about the milk. He stopped crying to tell me it wasn't milk. I asked him if he was hurt. He said no. Then I told him it was the accident and since no one was hurt. He didn't have to cry. Then I asked him if he wanted me to help him clean it up. He said yes, and that was that. If life was only that simple! Your bathrooms came out lovely!
ReplyDeleteYour bathroom choices are lovely!! The questions today were fun to answer, as always. Thank you for the Wednesday Hodgepodge!!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't quite find the time to participate today but hopefully next week. Love, love the "redo" of the paint and paper in your guest bath. The picture is awesome!
ReplyDeleteWonder which of us will find ourselves in a hot air balloon first? That was my answer too. Love how you updated that guest bath - the colors are lovely and that wallpaper is perfect for a house by the lake! Hope you have a great long weekend!
ReplyDeleteYour colors are very in fashion, wherever I go now here in Europe the colors are always the same. It varies from soft light grey to dark grey or even black, and then cheered up with colorful pictures.
ReplyDeleteEven here in my residence the colors are neutral light beige and I put a lot of colors in with my paintings and orange curtains. This gives a personal touch.
